-most useful time was against big hard bosses or tough enemies (again, like praetorians or the thresher maw and human reaper)
-for me its a tough choice between the m-920 cain, the arc projector and the collector particle beam
-i would have used heavy weapons more if there was more of the harder enemies (only 2 praetorians in the game)
-personally i think heavy weapons themselves are fine, i like that they use limited ammo and you have to look for power cells, just not many situations where they could be useful

I think if there were two categories of heavy weapons, stock and special, it would make the system so much better. the weapons under the "stock" category, like the grenade and rocket launchers, should get full ammo before every mission, but the "special" weapons, like the CPB, the Cain and the arc projector, you should have to scavenge the ammo for.

Rarely, if ever, even on Insanity. Partly because I think I could a better job with conventional weapons, and partly because I was very paranoid of running out of ammo at a vital point. Heavy weapons for me it's not really about "looks like I'll need to use this" and more about "Let's speed this up, I'm late for dinner".
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
Arc for enemy groups (as the bounce lighting is much more effective that other AOE weapons) and Cain for the Big Things.
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Arc and Cain for reasons stated above. Tho the Singularity Projector is my favorite graphical effect.
What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Change the ammo management to be less arcade-y. Or at least refill the weapons before each mission.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
I would like for the game to create situations where I actually have/it's fun to use them. With the exception of the Cain, it doesn't really feel rewarding to use any of them.

hardly ever, only on some of the early boss fights and Praetorians
-When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
the arc projector for crowd control like the geth, as well as armored bosses like gunships etc
-What was your favorite heavy weapon?
the arc projector and the singularity cannon-(for looks)
-If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
the cryo avalanche gun should create an icy surface on the targeted area (floor) so when those pesky husks run over it...
oh and bring back the grenades as a heavy weapon I loved throwing those little flying discs, and timing them at just the right time.

2) As stated above, plus when I wanted to speed things up.
3) Collector particle beam. Although I did use the missile launcher and Cain from time to time. Arc projector I used once or twice, but being a sentinel it was kind of "meh".
4) Maybe more damage? Sometimes (especially with the missile launcher) I could get the same amount of damage with an assault rifle that had an ammo power. After mattock came out I pretty much only ran around with the cain and used it for laughs. They just didn't seem to have enough oomph to justify using them a lot.
5) Maybe more ammo, or ammo more easily acquired? Maybe a slight damage boost, nothing drastic, but something to make me think "Oh hey, I have a heavy weapon, let's use it and not be so worried about not having ammo later even though my assault rifle/powers do just as much damage".
Hope that helps.

A: When I first got the game, I used them frequently on bosses, but now I don't use them anymore (I just take on bosses with basic weapons and powers).
Q: When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
A: They were most effective in boss fights. I'd use them untill they were empty then finish off the boss with basic weapons.
Q: What was your favorite heavy weapon?
A: Missile Launcher (able to fire rocket straight up while hidden in cover and rocket would auto-seek enemies). Nuke Gun would be my least favorite (wastes too much ammo, way too powerful).
Q: What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
A: I currently think they are too good right now, even on Hardcore they can kill tough bosses quite easily (especially when combied with powers and standard weapons).
Q: If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
A: I would probably make them optional items (i.e. can choose to take them on missions or leave them behind). Some need to be weakened a bit (the missile's auto-seek is extremely cheap).

Rarely, mostly for fear of running out of ammo. I don't use them for standard encounters normally, because during challenging encounters (I only play on Insanity btw) I tend to fire a lot of rounds, so I want a good stockpile.
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
I usually used them against large groups of enemies spawning in the same place that overwhelm me (think the last segment of Kasumi's loyalty mission) or against YMIRs, especially Garrus' loyalty mission. Never really need them against bosses-one you learn its pattern, there's no need to get it down quickly.
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Grenade Launcher, then Arc Projector when it first came out-they provide crowd control, are easy to aim, and deal good damage. I really dislike all the other ones. The missile launcher felt inaccurate, the collector beam weapon and especially the flamethrower felt too weak for how long I had to be exposed to enemy fire (again, this is on Insanity). The Cain is kinda a gimmick, only useful for bosses, but never really worth its high cost in ammo. Actually, I kind of liked the Avalanche, I just never used it, though I dunno why. Its damage, crowd control, and rate of fire are all pretty good.
What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
I'd consider refreshing the ammo after each mission, but I'm not sure if the balance changes needed to accommodate this are warranted (smaller clips, less pickups on missions, etc). The Heavy Weapons are supposed to feel very deadly, and deciding to use them needs to be an important choice. To me, respawning ammo and a smaller clip sizes and pickups would preserve to mindset to only use them for tough encounters, but would they feel as badass with less ammo or whatever other balance changes happen to them? I don't know, but I think it should be considered.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Hrmm...just brainstorming here....maybe allow some sort of customization options with the heavy weapons? I don't know how much you'd wanna revamp this, but it could be similar to how Shepherd wears her armor.
You have a few custom models, but her default weapon can be mixed and matched with acquired parts that produce very different results. For example, slots for ammunition type or a slot for the gun's barrel. The barrel upgrade could produce different effect, like allowing Shep to quickly fire off two shots, or being able to charge up the a single round for extra damage.

A. every now and than. most of the time i used small arms
Q. When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
A. Against masses of weaker enemies like husks, or realy big ones.
Q. What was your favorite heavy weapon?
A. cain. amazing visual effect & damage. a shame you can only use it once in awhile.
Q. What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
A. Maybe an automatic ammo refill when you return to your ship \\ base? its kinda stupid that
you only have the ammo you find on missions and you can't buy more or take from your ship.
Q. If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
A. make them less clanky and big, and more hige-tech looking.

Very rarely (on insanity).
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
I feel there is not one encounter in the game where heavy weapons are necessary; they are useful on certain tough enemies for the sole purpose
of speeding up otherwise lengthy battles (ie, praetorian).
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Avalanche, arc projector and cain.
What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
More of the tougher bosses.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
They need to have a separate hotkey for themselves, because of being very slow to equip and unequip. In addition they should not be in the weapon rotation when switching weapons. Finally I feel players need the option to leave them behind if they choose.
Maybe not on topic, but regardless I say please bring grenades back, I really miss them and heavy weapons are not a substitute.

Rarely, not enough ammo and stuff.
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
Since this is spoiler free, I wont run into details - gunships, YMIR mechs, Scions, some heavy Geth platforms.
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Portable nuke, whats not to like? Some other weapons were good as well.
What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
More ammo.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Models of some weapons were interfering in ME2, its minor graphical glitch, but since we have to watch Shepards back for 50 hours....

* When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
I use heavy weapons regularly but not always on every mission. Usually I use them for boss fights or against Geth Primes or husk hordes.
* When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
Heavy weapons were most useful during swarm attacks (husks, especially in the derelict reaper) and against bosses like the colossus and praetorian.
* What was your favorite heavy weapon?
My favorite heavy weapon is a tie between the arc-projector and the M-451 flamethrower. A close second would be the missile launcher.
* What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Heavy weapons would have been more useful if I didn't have to worry about starting a mission with low ammo because I had used the heavy weapon in the previous mission. This was the primary reason I avoided the Cain gun.
* If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
I would have the ammo for all heavy weapons filled on the Normandy in the same way it is done for the ammo of your standard weapons. Alternatively I would like a set amount of ammo restored so I could at least have something.

1. I used heavy weapons at some point on pretty much every mission. I did not use them often enough that I used all the ammo I had at the time, however, because I wanted to always have some on hand in case I ran into a crazy situation. When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
2. I used them mostly on large clusters of enemies or a small group with a powerful enemy among them. I also used them against things like gunships because they were so tough and could be hard to hit with conventional weapons that didn't do as much damage to them.
3. It's hard to say. I switched them up so often and used them all in spurts and they were all fairly effective. I'd say either the Arc Projector or Avalanche were my favorite.
4. I can't think of anything specifically for heavy weapons. I think very general gameplay changes will help them, such as how you interact with cover. If I'm right, you can't charge weapons in cover because pressing R makes Shepard fire from behind cover. If there was some way to change that so that I could stay behind cover while charging a Cain shot...I understand if part of the reason for this is balance, becauese it would be pretty easy to sit behind cover and then pop out to fire a nuke that kills everything, but if that's the case, couldn't improved AI that rushes the player if they wait behind cover too long fix it?
Another example is simply how some weapons work. I HATE the homing of the grenade launcher and missile launcher. If I could, I would MUCH rather have the grenade launcher fire like a modern grenade launcher, that is, the grenades have a noticeable arc due to gravity. As for the missile launcher, I'd rather have a missile launcher more like what the enemies have. In fact, make it fire like the grenade launcher! Give it a faster projectile with SOME homing capability, and have it do more damage.
5. It would be nice to be able to buy some power cells. The idea that Shepard relies on finding them on his missions is kind of silly.

[*]When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
Use them only ones or twice on my first play through.
[*]When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
At the end of the IFF mission to shoot the core.
[*]What was your favorite heavy weapon?
None sorry, But not one of the Heavy's are really needed.
[*]What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
By adding way way WAY more enemy's and big big BIG bosses so i NEED to use them or someting.

A: I'd always use them whenever I had a situation I needed more firepower for.
Q:When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
A: I'd use the Arc Projector or Blackstorm to help clear groups of enemies. I'd use the Particle Beam to take out the shields, barriers and armors on opponents. The Cain I saved for YMIR mechs and other boss like enemies. The grenade launcher and missile launcher I hardly used. The Avalanche I occasionaly used to help stop swarming enemies.
Q: What was your favorite heavy weapon?
A: Blackstorm was a fun one. Basically a singularity gun.
Q: What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
A: Certain heavy weapons were effective for Barrier and Shielded enemeis but there wasn't really one designed for shredding health or armor. A minigun like one or a high powered railgun would have been nice editions to help me with those types of enemies.
Q: If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
A: The ability to restock ammo on the Normandy or buy it on HUB worlds. Always felt like there wasn't enough ammo.

[*]In difficult situations, with lots of enemies or big bosses. Sometimes I just used the Cain for fun against a YMIR mech.
[*]The Arc Projector is easily the best crowd-control weapon. The Cain is good for taking down large enemies.
[*]Make the rockets and the Cain's projectile faster. It makes them more useful in-game, and makes them more in line with the weapons' descriptions.
[*]See above.

Rarely.
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
I only used heavy weapons when I made mistakes or during some of the hardest fights in the game. I used them to "cheat" when I felt like the game was "cheating," thereby leveling the playing field and leaving me feeling dirty.
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
The Arc Projector felt overpowered, so I guess that one was my favorite.
What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
Swapping between weapons takes too long. Give some classes a weapon swap speed increase tied to their passive.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
I'd make them have a limited number of uses per mission (none of this picking up heavy weapon ammo in the field).

- More ammo and damage research upgrades
- Squad mates carry them. Why does shepard carry 3-5 weapons when squad mates carry only 2
