Hey thanks for the responses. I use a variety of social networks to get feedback from different player groups. But I of course value feedback here and will give it equal consideration. I will be posting questions here from time to time as well.

  • When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
only in big battles.
  •  When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
They where useful for the elite enimie types like boss's and mini boss's.

  • What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Fav heavy weapon was the particle beam weapon.
  • What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Upgrading the damage like you could witht he other weapons and apply ammo powers.

  •  If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
If I could change anything, I would add the ability to upgrade the base damage and be able to add a ammo power.

I hope this becomes useful in the future Christina.

4. Different types of Rockets

5. Powerful Fire Power

6. Quicker Recharging

I'd like some feedback on heavy weapons in Mass Effect 2

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
Only when the fit hits the shan. 20%

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
Usually when having to take out multiple targets or a Mech

What was your favorite heavy weapon?
They all served a purpose. Cain was cool because it was so over the top ridiculous. Arc Projector was handy against synthetics and robots.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Nothing really. Did we really need so many? Seemed like pandering to the shooter fans who are all about gun-p0rn.

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Nothing

I almost never used a heavy weapon when playing through Mass Effect 2, even on Insanity difficulty. Most of the effective heavy weapons on that difficulty have a long charge time, and you have to be out in the open to charge them up. On the higher difficulties, this usually means a quick death.

Really the only time I've ever used one was during the N7: Quarian Crash Site mission, which I had to use the Collector Particle Beam to take out the swarm of varren before they could one hit kill the quarian on Insanity. Other than that, I use my trusty sniper rifle as an Infiltrator to pick off most heavy enemies with relative ease.

So far I really liked the M-490 Blackstorm, and the Arc Projector. The Blackstorm was a fun gun that I used just to look at the pretty singularity it shoots out. The Arc Projector is pretty useful if you're getting swarmed by Husks or any other melee units on the harder difficulties. I can't really speak for the other guns since I've only really used them once each just to see what they were like incase I ever found myself needing to use them.

Definitely add something where you can charge your heavy weapon while in cover and shoot it when coming out. Like I said, if you ever come across an enemy that you actually need to use it on, you'll probably get gunned down before you can even finish charging it up.

One thing I would like to see changed in ME3 would for them to have more of a use. I mean, every other gun in the game does something useful against certain defenses. Heavy Pistols and Sniper Rifles do great damage against armor, Shotguns and SMGs do good against sheilds/biotic barriers, and Assault Rifles are pretty well rounded. Heavy Weapons do fairly decent damage against all types on Insanity, and they have some nice effects, but those never really motivated me to waste my precious ammo and 100 credit bonus everytime I picked up a power cell on a mission.

- When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
I use the Grenade Launcher pretty much exclusively with my Adept. Good AoE  damage with singularity seems to get the job done.

- When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
vs Low HP mobs in 3+ quantities or super tough stuff under the effect of my adepts biotics.

- What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Black Storm, but its charge time like any charge weapon reduces its effectiveness overall. But its my favorite.

- What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
Ability to aquire more ammo during mission doesn't have to be full clips but something along the way.

- If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
The equip/unequip times. switching to and from using a hvy weapon is a bit a pain especially in tight combats.

I would like the option to remove them as I think they look terrible on the back - especially on the back of a femshep. So if they are to be included in ME3 make wearing/using them optional.

I would prefer that grenade launcher type ammo be returned to shotgun carnage similar to what Krogans have in ME2 and Shep had in ME1.

I never used them much beyond the novelty factor - the Cain was the only one that actually felt "heavy".

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
Not very often. Typically when i ran into a difficult enemy like a Praetorian or Heavy Mech. Sometimes if things got desperate and I was low on ammo I'd use it as an alternative.

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
The Missle Launcher and Collector Beam Weapon were the ones I used the most. I typically used them against the more elite bosses.

What was your favorite heavy weapon?
The Missle Launcher.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Easy to use, fire and forget for the most part. In the middle of battle I liked something that I could fire quickly when facing very powerful enemies without exposing my character to damage.

[b]If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

I'd like there to be more punch with heavy weapons. The Cain had punch but didn't seem very usable due to limited ammo.

I saved heavy weapons to use against tough opponents

I only used them against bosses or heavy opponents (heavy mechs, praetorians, etc)

I'd add a station in the Normandy to replenish Heavy Weapon ammo up to 100% (excluding upgrades)

I never liked heavy weapons. Now that Gibbed exists for xbox I always mod them off of my characters. I don't like that it covers the back and doesn't allo you to appreciate the back piece of the armor. I know this isn't really a great reason but that's my opinion. I also found them unecessary, I've done every part of the game without heavy weapons, I haven't done it on insanity but I bet it can be done anyways.

I really hate the Cain though, the idea of a gun that just blows everything up in one shot annoys me. It seems like a move to attract fools that like big explosions and an instant win button. i would've preferred a powerful weapon but not powerful enough to kill almost everything if not everything instantly. They should also come up with something more creative, as if big explosions were something rare. If I liked any heavy weapon I'd say it was the Missile Launcher and the Collector Particle beam. Everything else I didn't like.

How often I used heavy weapons:
-Depends on the class. I really only used heavy weapons against tougher enemies as Soldier, yet found myself using them quite a bit as Vanguard.

When I used heavy weapons:
-As I said, usually on tougher enemies but that's really only to speed things up. However, heavy weapons really saved my rear a couple of times by using them to slow down or temporarily incapacitate large groups of enemies. Very useful when low on health, or if I can't count on help from squadmates because they're down or in cooldown mode.

Favorite heavy weapon:
-The Arc Projector. Once I had that that was pretty much the only heavy weapon I used. The projector's ability to temporarily immobilize groups enemies is what I loved the most about the weapon. It bought time and did some damage without winning the battle for you. Cain's alright, but that's really kind of a "Get out of a battle for free" weapon than something that could make a fight more interesting.

Ideas on making heavy weapons more useful:
-Make them more effective against large groups of enemies. Perhaps not damage-wise, but in other ways. The Arc Projectors' ability to stun groups of enemies is a perfect example.

Changes to heavy weapons in ME3:
-Probably the option to not bring one. Heavy weapons are what I use when I'm really in trouble or when I just want to get a fight over with, but they're not essential to survive fights (if all the other weapons are available of course) and really look kind of bad taking up all that space sometimes. Also, perhaps have weapons that focus not on damaging the enemy, but hindering their performance in fights. A weapon that lowers an enemy's accuracy Though I guess that's what neural shock is for. Maybe makes this ability available when squad member with that power is not around, or has a large radius of effectiveness. Or makes them more susceptible to another attack (Kind of like the cryo weapon I suppose.)

[*]When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
    Almost never.

[*]When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
Cain was useful for taking down several mini-bosses in one shot. The collector particle beam was all-around helpful, because it had more ammo than the other weapons and dealt more damage than small arms.

[*]What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Grenade launcher. It looked cooler than the others when it was on my back- where the heavy weapons usually were.

[*]What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
Besides being able to use heat sinks/thermal clips? Nothing.

[*]If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
    Gatling lasers. Giant gatling lasers.

Edit: I'm quoting this man for truth.

[*]When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
Actually with my last playthrough (Insanity NG+ Infiltrator.) Once on the side mission vs the 3 mechs. One nuke from the Cain

[*]When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
When you didnt have many "soldier style" talents. I remember using the Collector Particle Beam vs the Pratoreans when I was an adept

[*]What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Cain for looks, Collector Beam for usability

[*]What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
Dunno, never really used them. (But they were useful when I did.)

[*]If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Squamates being able to use them. Have one for the entire squad, and switch it out between who gets to use it.

Thanks! Your feedback will help make ME3 a better game.

[*]Rarely in the vanilla game. They're officially obsolete now that I have the Mattock.
[*]Boss types and endless waves of husks. Again, though, the Mattock really curbed that need.
[*]Collector Beam, for purely aesthetic reasons. It wasn't exactly the most effective weapon.
[*]Lots of things. You could cut it out with Shepard's slow draw, for one thing. Every other type of weapon can be drawn at the snap of a finger except for heavy weapons. I and likely other players resort to heavy weapons in tight situations when deadly weapons are needed and deadly weapons are needed fast. The slow draw really does not help. Beyond that, weapon upgrades would be cool.
[*]Secondary fire. With the exception of the Collector Beam, all heavy weapons are pretty much point and shoot. The zoom function isn't really necessary. It'd be interesting to see, say, the M-100 be able to launch a proximity mine that could adhere to surfaces. That could come in really handy for combat scenarios like the Archangel mission. Or what if the Arc Projector had a mass-accelerated grapple hook? That'd bring new emphasis to "don't tase me, bro!" It wouldn't have an area effect, but you could wreak havoc on a single target.

1) Not often.

2) Only for swarms of husks.

3) Arc projector.

4) Unsure.

5) Allow squad members to use them (weakened for balance)

Q: When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

A: Almost never, I forget I have them most of the time.

Q: When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

A:  They were most useful against YMIR mechs. I only use heavy weapons when I don't want to fight YMIR mechs or if there are two because I hate fighting them. I also horde ammo for the nuke launcher so I don't have to deal with the horrid end game boss fight.

Q: What was your favorite heavy weapon?

A: Arc Projector for normal encounters. Nuke launcher for end boss because I wish that fight didn't exist.

Q: What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

A: More ammo so I don't have to horde ammo the whole game trying to guess when the best time to use it would be, and also make them stick out more so I remember to use them because most of the time I don't even need them even on Insanity.

Q: If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

A: Look at the above question. Also maybe make a few random parts of the game require heavy weapons where conventional weapons are useless, great example: ME2 end boss fight, the boss should have only been vulnerable to heavy weapons, because if I really wanted to I could kill it with the very first pistol and nothing else.

    Seldom
  • When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
"Boss" enemies, long-distance combat. Used them to get early advantage in some of the more difficult fights.
  • What was your favorite heavy weapon?
    Collector Particle Beam
  • What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Option to forgo equipping it altogether... thus lessening Shepard's burden and maybe boosting sprint speeds.
  • If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Non-mandatory or customizable... take your pick.

I haven't been using heavy weapons much, even though I play on Insanity.

I think the best heavy weapon was the Arc Projector because it could strip defenses of multiple enemies in a wide radius.

I pretty much saved all my heavy weapon ammo for the Cain, which I used for the two scions on Horizon, the N7 mission with the 20 crates and 3 YMIR heavy mechs, the Praetorian on the Collector Ship, the Reaper Core, and the Final Boss.

I did enjoy using the Avalanche and Flamethrower on my Vanguard though.

If I would change one thing, I think the missile launcher should home in on the enemy you're targeting similar to the mechanics for curved biotics. Currently, the missile launcher isn't worth taking because it is not likely to home in on the one annoying enemy you really want to target (enemy rocket, flamethrower, turret, scion). Instead of hitting that priority target in the back, the missile launcher tends to zoom in on random frontline mooks.

Rarely.

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
I only used heavy weapons when I made mistakes or during some of the hardest fights in the game.  I used them to "cheat" when I felt like the game was "cheating," thereby leveling the playing field and leaving me feeling dirty.

What was your favorite heavy weapon?
The Arc Projector felt overpowered, so I guess that one was my favorite. Plus the Cain.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
My answer: scale their damage depending on difficulty level. On higher settings the bulk of them feel worthless against the targets you'd want them for.

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
I'd make them have a limited number of uses per mission (none of this picking up heavy weapon ammo in the field).
Addendum: Have heavy weapons charge at weapon lockers also.

Other than those changes I agree emphatically

I mod out my heavy weapon and replace it with an smg or assault rifle, depending on the class. I find the heavy weapons a little too lacklustre for the most part. Oh, they look pretty cool but they can either be used too seldom or they aren't really that effective. I only play on insanity.

I'm not sure what to suggest to improve them. Make them actually useful and usable a few times every mission.

Q. When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

A. Not too often but I think I used them on the enemies y'all wanted them used on (except husks).

Q. When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

A. Boss and Mini-boss type enemies. Big damage/quick kills.

Q. What was your favorite heavy weapon?

A. Arc Projector because it's shoots chain lightning and it's small on Shepard's back.

Q. What would have made heavy weapons more useful?

A. Harder enemies/ more difficult sections like double YMIR Mechs.

Q. If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

A. Make the Collector Beam not look like a giant wasp nest.
