1. I did not use heavy weapons often. I used mostly pistol, sniper rifle and submachine guns.
2. I used heavy weapons to both, mass of enemies or some hard enemies, like those big mechs.
3. The one what froze enemies was my favor.
4-5. I think heavy weapons where fine, but I would like throw genades (animation), not shoot them from heavy weapon.

(One game, don't remember the name anymore, it's so old. There was ability throw grenades and they where bouncing from floors and walls, before they exploded. You could try to throw it so that it goes behind corner. How ever, the fuse was so short that grenade never actually stoped moving. Most the time it exploded middle of bouncing. It was fun to throw those grenades)

I used the Collector Particle Beam for most instances, esp. Praetorians. The Nuke Gun to obliterate The Geth Colossus on Haelstrom and the Missle Lanucher for Gunships and Heavy Mechs

How often I used heavy weapons:
Very rarely. Used each one as soon as it got available for the first time, just to see it.

When I used heavy weapons:
I only use them in 4 instances now:
(1), (2) The two praetorians (Cain)
(3) The Threshermaw (Cain)
(The Cain is in no way necessary, butI don't like these fights and Cain lets me finish them quicker)
(4) In Thane's recruitment, when the Krogan and the engineers come out of the elevator, I use the Arc Projector for crowd control and disabling the shields of the engineers

Favorite heavy weapon:
Cain

Ideas on making heavy weapons more useful:
Implement enemies, that need a heavy weapon to be brought down. So far heavy weapons are not needed at all.

Changes to heavy weapons in ME3:
I like the idea posted above of heaving "stock" and "special" heavy weapons. Let the "stock" heavy weapons refill their ammo between missions to be used in varied applications such as crwod control, long range, or against heavier critters as e.g. Krogan. Give us some special enemies, that require the clever use of some of the "special" heavy weapons to be defeated.

Didnt find heavy weapons to be anything good. Used only granade launcher (that you get in the start) and particle beem to bring down some of the tough mini bosses when was low on ammo. In all combats (especially on insane) they proved to be waste of time.

If I was one to change them, then I would probably do following:
- make less of them, there were too many of them.
- either give more ammo for them or make them make more dmg
- make situations when they will be more usefull then normal weapon + special ammo

HW works best when there are several enemies in one tight spot, that never happens. Make some bunkers or something so that you can waste lot's of ammo or one shot of HW to bring them all down.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
To be honest hardly ever, I only really used them on my first play through.

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

on my first play through against the big enemies, now I can defeat them with standard weapons.

What was your favorite heavy weapon?
The Arc projector simply because It helps on Insanity.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

The ability to choose not to equip them.

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
To have the option to not equip them.

Like I posted in another topic, Im not a fan of the Heaavy weapons, and would prefer to have the option to not use them.

- When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

I used each weapon once, to see what they were doing. Never after that

- When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

Hm, not really that useful. I used the cain on the colossus once. That is the only particular instance the I can remember right now

- What was your favorite heavy weapon?

I liked the visual effect of the Blackthorn singularity launcher. Looked really cool.

- What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

I am a bit paranoid about Ammo, so changes there would be appreciated. Also, I always imagine Shepard and his squad as a tactical incursion/intervention team, not as a rambo like force (although they probably are often enough). I think special weapons with more precision would be nice. Also, as people already said, if you want us to use heavy weapons, give us specific situations where they are really useful (or get rid of them).

- If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

I would like the option to unequip them if I don't intend to use them. I actually deleted them from my Sheps loadout in the coalesced.ini. It made me feel more like playing my ME1 Shep with the sniper rifle and the AR on his/her back.

Oh, one col heavy weapon whould be a laser to paint targets for an orbital strike, executed by Joker/EDI on the Normandy. Obviously this would only work on missions planet side but I'd go for that one (fits in with the tactical team premise as well, calling in aerial support)

It seems clear that they had the ammo situation all wrong; they should start you out at max ammo each mission for whatever HW you have equipped and then not have any HW ammo lying around to pick up.

This would allow a player at least one guaranteed encounter per mission where they could take out the HW and use it.

What was your favorite heavy weapon?

cain

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

auto-refill after each mission

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

auto-refill after each mission

Don't make them too powerfull if you give them a lot of ammo because the game will become too easy.

The Heavy Weapon must be usefull only against big and very strong enemy or a lot them, or with a specific defense only destroyed by a specific weapon...

I'd like some feedback on heavy weapons in Mass Effect 2

# When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

Only around 6 or 7 times, mostly on bosses, although there's one section during Garrus' loyalty mission (when the mech, an elite guard, and two regulars all come out at the same time) where I always use it as well.

# When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

Bosses mostly.

# What was your favorite heavy weapon?

The almighty cain.

# What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

I honestly thought they were fine. For a weapon like the cain at least allowing it more uses than were available would have turned the game into easy mode.

# If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

Allow squadies to carry one with very limited ammo.

[*]When I started playing a few times every few missions. Now I use them rarely.

[*]Against bosses and Geth Destroyers (the ones with the flamethrowers), to kill them before they got close to me. When I felt overwhelmed, which was rarely.

[*]My 'favourites' were the Arc Projector (Haestrom), the M-920 Cain (final boss) and the Collector Particle Beam (Preatorians).

[*]If there were gameplay elements/situations where standard weapons are useless, which there weren't in ME2. If you had no choice but to use heavy weapons.

[*]If all heavy weapons were useful in unique situations.

PS: drop the Rocket Launcher and give me back my ME (1) grenades.

I rarely used heavy weapons. In the few instances I did, I used the Cain.
Also, it always bugs me that heavy weapons overlap with the assault and sniper rifle. :P

Very rarely. I only really used them when first picked up.

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
I never found them that useful to be honest. With the exception of the Cain none of them felt heavy and they were either not powerful enough over the standard weapons with an ammo power or the charge time made them impractical to use when faced with a lot of enemies.

What was your favorite heavy weapon?
The Cain because it was a room clearer and actually felt like a heavy weapon rather than a slightly more powerful standard weapon.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
Being able to charge the weapons before having to leave cover.

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Just the above and the option not to take them. I mostly take the Arc Protector with me, not because I find it useful, but it looks the best on Shepard's back.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

Very rarely, on insanity (also modded insanity, with powers bypassing defenses and weapon overheat) .

When were heavy weapons most useful?

On the derelict "ship" mission), and those occasions where a dialogue/cutscene results in placing the player in an extremely unfavorable position for a firefight; note, I hate those.

What did you use them for? What was your favorite heavy weapon?

Crowd control. Husks, mostly. Arc Projector is absolutely the best weapon, though I also like the cryo blaster and the grenade launcher.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

I don't know really,I prefer regular guns and skills. About the missile launcher, though - lesser fire-rate, more powerful missiles.

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

Two, actually - option whether to wear them or not before a mission, as I often find them clunky on the back of my character. Second, squad members should be able to use them. Even at the cost of other types of weapons.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

Pretty rarely. I found myself too focused on conserving the ammo to use them actively.

When were heavy weapons most useful?

Husk rushes, occasionally Blackstorming particularly well dug-in groups of enemies, derelict reaper.

What did you use them for? What was your favorite heavy weapon?

Well, the Blackstorm is fun just for the occasional massive singularity,
and its the weapon I found myself mostly using just for the sheer "FUN"
factor. Another favorite moment in the game is one-shotting the...
final opponent on the derelict reaper with the Cain. On insanity I found
myself using the weapons a lot more, and planning their use quite a bit
- with the particle cannon getting quite a bit of use then.

Favorite weapon = Blackstorm, with a silver medal to the Cain for a single awesome moment (but let's face it, carrying the thing around is generally a waste of time).

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

Ammo to reset at the start of missions. (It doesn't, right? ) Maybe coupled with a lower overall ammo cap to balance?

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

See above - resetting ammo at the Normandy to make using the weapons more of a tactical and less of a strategic decision.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

I've used heavy weapons in boss fights (especially when enemies have barrier protection) and against husks or other "hordes" for crowd controll.

When were heavy weapons most useful?

Against Husks and the Pretorian.

What did you use them for? What was your favorite heavy weapon?

As I said I used them mostly for crowd controll or to throw down barrier protection since those were the feature that my soldier missed with his regular setup untill late levels. Then, I've used them less frequently. My favourite heavy weapons were the crio and the collector beam.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

It should take less time to switch weapons: sometimes you have not the time to use them properly in the heat of the battle. I would have preferred to have less weapons with lot more customizable update options to tailor your heavy weapon of choice to your play style.

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

See above: more customization to your play style.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons? - Rarely

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for? - Mob control, mostly against swarms of Husks.

What was your favorite heavy weapon? - Blackstorm

What would have made heavy weapons more useful? - More ammo

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be? - Slightly less power in exchange for more ammo or ammo which is refilled after the completion of a mission.

I initially avoided using it because of the limited ammo in order to conserve it for a big battle where it might be needed. So I would avoid using it, fill up and then when I would find more I'd end up getting a minimal credit boost. But by the time I got to a big battle I didn't feel the need to use it since I had adapted my play style to essentially ignore the heavy by combining powers and strategically using my other weapons. So I really don't go heavy unless absolutely necessary and there's really nowhere that this condition exists unless you run out of thermal clips entirely and this is a rare circumstance.

I should probably use them against Scions and Praetorians but I don't.

Q.  When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

   A.  I don't usually use heavy weapons. I tend to keep them for tough situations.

Q.  When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

   A.  For crowd control and big enemies.

Q.   What was your favorite heavy weapon?

   A. Arc Projector and Cain, but I also like the Missile and Grenade Launchers.

Q.   What would have made heavy weapons more useful?

   A.  I personally think they're fine as they are. However, I'd prefer if the majority of them had a noticeably higher damage score than regular weapons. I mean they're heavy weapons after all. ^_^

Q.   If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

   A. I'd love for the heavy weapons (and all weapons in general) to have full ammo every time I return to the Normandy.  For example, if the Cain is at 25% by the end of a mission, it should be at 100% (or above) on the next mission, after having returned to the Normandy. Other than that, I can't think of much else, really.

  • first time i used them against ymir mechs, thresher maw, praetorians, and the final boss. but now its a rare thing and i only use them when i'm lazy and dont even feel like scratching my own nose
  • well everyone seems to think that the arc projector is great but it didn't live up to the hype for me. but i used the partical beam for the most part in my first two playthroughs
  • favorite is the singularity projector. that thing is beast and is not a waste of ammo like the cain
  • MORE AMMO GOD DAMNIT!!! and also take out the homing for most shots. usually when i decide to use a weapon such as the cain i aim at the ymir mech that is behind a line of enemies and instead the shot will curve and hit the cover one enemy is hiding behind...
  • make it so you start every mission with full heavy weapons ammo. maybe then i'd use heavy weapons
on another note the first time i use the cain i stood up in my recliner and shouted "DO IT AGAIN!!!" lucky for me i was within the blast radius of the shot so i died and had the chance to do it again:lol:

and who needs heavy weapons when you have the collector ship weapons?:bandit:

well my opinion:
# When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
Almost never. Because for me, they are just useless. I like firefights with normal weapons and heavy weapons just seem boring. You pull them out and kill a group of the attackers with on shot.... boring.... + the powers from your squadmades are more powerfull and usefull in most cases.

When i used them, i used them for bos fights but you don´t really need them because your powers or your squadmades powers + gunfire a enough for all boss fights.

# When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
Like answer for question 1. Only during bossfights or to take out heavy mechs. But Squadmate powers + gunfire did the job in most cases for me. Got some playthroughs without using them...
...ah ok for the achievement also...

# What was your favorite heavy weapon?
- collector beam and rocket luncher or grenade launcher
- collector beam is very accurate and can take down attacker over a great distance and you can handle how much of your ammo you consume --> no overkill
- the grenade luncher is got vs groups but its way to boring if you kill them all at once so i stopped using it
- rocket luncher is great for popping out of cover and kill attackers or at least shoot at them and then dive back into cover

# What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
- Situations where i feel like i need them... realy there were none

Else: can´t really say because the whole heavy weapon idee is not appealing for me, but please no overkill weapon like the nuke... I never used the nuke... it is way to much over the top
But you could impose restrictions for heavy weapon usage for certain levels like colonies, you want that they stay habitable so no nuke or other weapons that could change that
Another idee --> ruins or other unstable or valuable environments should be protected from the usage of weapons with to much power behind them like rocket luncher, restrict heavy weapon usage to the freeze weapon would be possible

# If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
-Take them out of the game or let them have greater impact on the environment. Kill through walls or blast walls to nothingness --> maybe whole buildings--> When i fire a rocket against a wall or attacker near a wall there will be no wall after the dust clears...
- When you don´t take them out of the game then please work on the graphicel effects dust that clears slowly debries and so on, please step away from just black craters...
- You could change them to special ("all mighty") powers of your companions that can be used only a limited time per mission and only be restored on the Normandy(after a time of rest because they put a lot of strain on your companions) Example for this: the biotic push samara uses against the colectors to keep them off in the cutscene during the last mission after she saved you from the colector swarm.
This would also have a good impact on the squad decision. Every Squad character could have one power like this and support the character personality(maybe)

I rarely used the heavy weapons on anything except the most difficult bad guys, and those are few and far between. I tended to lean towards using the grenade launcher when I did use them mostly.

I really missed the hand grenades from ME1 that were detonated by remote, they would have made nice mini-heavy weapons... I don't mean Zaeed's incendiary grenade or Kasumi's flashbang.

(I suppose that would also free up the visual of having heavy weapon on your back as well)

[*]When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

On the first playthrough - besides getting the achievement - I've only used the Cain. Fired it four times iirc.

[*]When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

I'm only using them on Praetorians.

[*]What was your favorite heavy weapon?

The Cain. With that in the arsenal the rest shouldn't be called heavy weapons :)

[*]What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

They aren't giving you a fighting chance in near-death scenarios (as the description says), you can spray bullets long enough to take everything down. They are just saving time. Harder battles would do them justice. I've been experimenting with them all, the Arc Projector and the Blackstorm is really neat. Interesting weapons > Weapons with huge firepower

[*]If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

Saying "give us back grenades instead" isn't much of a feedback is it? =]

Now that I think about it heavy weapons should've been the only guns with ammo. I think I remeber an interview somewhere where that was to be the case but I'm not sure. In anycase I liked Mass Effect when weapons overheated, it would be nice to go back to that and have heavy weapons the only weapons with ammo.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
I rarely used heavy weapons.

When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
On unique enemies/bosses. I don't want to spoil anything, but I used them for shields/armor/barriers.

What was your favorite heavy weapon?
To be honest the M-100 Grenade Launcher.

What would have made heavy weapons more useful?
I'm not quite sure? Maybe the ability to upgrade/customize each heavy weapon.
(not just on ammo capacity , but damage, accuaracy, bonuses.)

If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
Every heavy weapon could have it's own unique attributes, making every weapon feel completely different.
Something different from explosives, like a gatling-style weapon!
