Avalanche launcher as much as I could use it without being wastefull (I play as a vanguard) so another cryo is a beast when you charge a mob then use SW

1) I used HW fairly intermittently. I like the idea of having HW but there needs to be more situations that REQUIRES their use or face an EXTREMELY difficult battle.

2) I used HW during boss fights mostly

3) My favorite was the Blackstorm. I honestly thought it had the coolest effect but it needs to be more effective against defenses in order to make it more useful on tougher difficulties. I liked the Arc projector and Cain as well.

4)First and foremost: MORE AMMO! At least have it automatically recharge at the Normandy. I like using HW but I limit their use because I have to hoard ammo for a future mission.

Blackstorm: make it more effective against defenses. Having armor or shields does NOT make someone immune to the effects of gravity.

Missle Launcher: Up the damage with the missles perhaps balanced by a reduction in rate of fire or something. I want to feel like I am firing something more powerful than a potato launcher.

Firestorm: I understand it is a flamethrower but increase the range OR create more levels with close quarters fighting to make it more useful

Collector Beam Rifle: I liked this weapon but my gripe about it is it's appearance. I know initially it should look Collectory but perhaps have Mordin, Tali, whoever find a way to reproduce the technology so the Normandy's minifacturing can make a beam rifle that looks like a gun, not a giant beehive.

Cain: Awesome, but without recharging ammo at the beginning of every mission, it is not very useful.

I am pretty much satisfied with the arc projector, grenade launcher, and the avalanche.

5) See #4 plus create much more situations where HW might actually be necessary to gain a decisive edge in a fight.

Sorry about the long post, just my two cents:)

[*]When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
  • Rarely
[*]When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
  • Whittling away at powerful enemies with big health/protection bars.  Useful when I need to deal significant damage in short bursts while dodging and strafing.
[*]What was your favorite heavy weapon?
  • Collector Particle Beam.  Precise and whittles away consistently.
[*]What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
  • More opportunities to swap them out.
[*]If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
  • Greater availability/capacity of ammo - and this goes for weapons in general.  I find myself constantly choosing not to use a heavy weapon because I "might need it more later."  The same issue exteneded to ammo in general;  I'm a sniping addict and hate worrying about about running out of shots on the sniper.  Consequently, I often end up not using (for me) the best weapon for the job or the one I've invested time mastering.

I'd like some feedback on heavy weapons in Mass Effect 2

# When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?

Not a lot, like the others in the thread, the lack of easy to obtain ammo meant that I was hesitant to experiment.

# When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?

Cain I guess, like I said I never really used them, I used Cain to help take down a few Heavy mechs (well 2 of them) on a mission, I used it again vs the end game boss. I also used the Arch projector once or twice as crowd control. I tried the flamer but on Insane it didn't seem to have the required punch.

# What was your favorite heavy weapon?

CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIN

# What would have made heavy weapons more useful.

Heavy weapons suffered from the 'could get worse, best keep it just in case' stockpiling syndrome. Had we been given an ability to recharge heavy weapons, we'd feel less restricted in experimenting with them.

# If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?

Squad mates carrying heavy weapons, Even if certain squad mates could only carry certain heavy weapons.

I use heavy weapons maybe once every 3 or 4 missions. I found myself very loss averce reguarding my heavy weapon ammo, hording it for an occasion when I would really need it. I always end up trying to kill a boss with my regular weapons first, and after awhile it stopped occuring to me to use my heavy weapon at all.

The most deliberate use of heavy weapons was to get the achievement. Now that I know the game I will take specific weapons on missions to deal with specific bosses that give me problems. The ML to shoot at the colosus from around the corner for example.

My favorite is the grenade launcher, I like the way it looks on my back where it almost always stays.

I think more enemy variety could give more cause to use heavy weapons as a counter. When all the enemies are comperable why should I pull out the heavy weapon at any specific point just to make that strech of the level a little easier?

I almost hate to say it but if I could change something it would be to make heavy weapons less powerful, but with more liberal ammo drops or some mechanisim that would allow you to use them more often. With my regualr guns I feel free to use them at will as the situation warrents because I know I'm going to find plenty of clips as I go. Generally, I know as long as I'm not wasting shots I can use the same gun for an entire level if I really want to. With heavy weapons I only have the ammo that's in the gun at the time, but no way of knowing when I might come accross more or when I will need it most, especially in the first playthrough. If I use it now will I find more before a big, hard fight and will it be enough? I'm always in starvation mode when it comes to heavy weapon ammo. My best experience with ME2 combat revolved around the Widow, it was a huge part of what made my infiltrator playthrough the most fun. It's such a cannon and such an ammo hog that it feels almost like having 2 heavy weapons. It really incentivised me to use my SMG whenever possible, but the key diffrence I think is that I carefully manage ammo for the Widow, I don't hord it. I can still have the fun of frequently using the big gun without being too concerned about wasteing it when a lesser weapon would do(or just breezing through levels like with the LMG *snore*). And the very fact that I can't use it for every kill mixes up combat and, I think, keeps it from ever getting monotonus. I want to manage my heavy weapons, not hord them.

When you played through ME2 how often did you use heavy weapons?
Fairly often.
When were heavy weapons most useful? What did you use them for?
For big things, things I don't want to spend a lot of time on, Gunships, the Thresher Maw, etc.
What was your favorite heavy weapon?
Arc Launcher, Blackstorm, Cain.
What would have made heavy weapons more useful.
The Normandy refilling their ammo.
If you could change one thing about heavy weapons in ME3 what would that be?
I want more found in the field like the regular weapons.
