You can also just not take her with you on the quest and not tell her what you did. Wynne will still leave the group (she just magically knows that you did it), even if you don't take her on the quest, however.

If you take her along while despoiling the ashes, she will attack you. If you don't take her with you, she just packs up and leaves.

If you take Leliana with you, she will attack you for spoiling the ashes unless she is hardened from her personal quest and you pass an intimidation check. If Wynne is with you, she will attack no matter what.

If you leave Leliana at camp and spoil the ashes, you can attempt to lie to her and tell her they are fine. It is a fairly difficult persuade attempt to get her to believe you, as she is cunning by nature. Wynne will leave no matter what.

The Dragon Age Wiki defines coercion checks as follows:

Persuasion = (25 * Coercion_Tier) + (Cunning - 10)
Intimidation = (25 * Coercion_Tier) + (Strength - 10)

The highest you will ever need is 100, according to the wiki, but I am unsure of what Leliana's (in party) intimidate check would be. However, I know that having 3 coercion, I have failed her at camp persuasion check when lying to her, so I know it is probably ranked "very hard." I would think that her intimidate would be along the same lines, but again, I am unsure.

That all being said, if you feel your cunning or strength is lacking to pass the check, you can grab a Tome of Skill and Sundry to give yourself a skill point for coercion. Old Tegrin, a random world map encounter, has one, and Master Varathorn at the Dalish camp has one after you have completed three of the main quests, and assuming the Dalish still live.

The intimidation check while tainting the ashes only requires 3 points. The lie at camp does require all 4 points.

Really? I don't even remember having to lie to her in camp. She asked me if I had really found the ashes and I said yes and that they were impressive or something. I thought it was a little odd that nobody asked why Wynne had run off.

There's a persuasion check at camp where you can say that they were impressive and they're fine and what not, but if you don't pass the check she will say that you're hiding something and she needs to go check.

The intimidation check while tainting the ashes only requires 3 points. The lie at camp does require all 4 points.

So you're saying the intimidation check is a 75 and the persuasion is a 100? Is all this in the toolset?

The script notes in the toolset can be a bit confusing since some persuasion checks are described in "low, medium, high, very high" while others are measured numerically.

The intimidation check at the gauntlet is described as "high", so 3 points of coercion will do. The lie at camp is set at 7. Now don't ask me on what scale does that 7 stand but since it has been noted that the lie will fail with 3 coercion points then I think it's safe to assume the lie requires all 4 points.

That's... odd. The wiki has low, medium, high, and very high rated as 25, 50, 75, and 100 respectively. I have no idea what 7 could possibly mean... I figured that there was a way to pass the lie with 3 coercion and sufficient cunning... though what that cunning would need to be for a 7 is beyond me. Thanks for the info.

It could be, and this is pure speculation on my part, that maybe there's a different scale that measures your coercion points plus your cunning or strength modifier. So in theory that 7 could represent "high persuade/intimidation" plus a certain amount of the respective modifier.

But that's just me making up crazy theories.
