 The original Mass Effect had a blue theme to it, with the blue menus and the blue hue that accompanied most of the Normandy.

Mass Effect 2, on the other hand, had a color palette of orange, most likely associated with Cerberus' orange logo.

So, what color do you think Mass Effect 3 will be?

Either red or dark blue.

To me, the shift in colors signifies the basic idea of when the story takes place.

Think of the overall story as a full day - Mass Effect 1 introduces everything, spanning the late morning and afternoon, hence a light blue theme akin to Earth's sky at that time of day.

Mass Effect 2's portion of the plot significantly darkens the mood, and occurs next chronologically - it is the evening/sunset, hence the easing off from blues and movement towards orange and red.



Following this trend, my bet will be that Mass Effect 3, being the end of the plot (the end of the day - night), will likely be a darker blue, perhaps centralized around grays or black.



Or, it could be a deep red to signify the presence of the Reapers, to go with the OP's idea of a possible trend.

I'd like blue/green on grey. ME1's blue was ok, but because it was blue on blue, what we ended up with was a helluva lot of blue. Ditto for ME2's orange.

I combination of Blue and Red seperated by the arch that's in the logo. Bottom half is the planet so blue, top half is the horizon so red, and it relates to Paragon Renegade blah blah blah you understand what I mean.
