Purple's commonly used as an insidious color, and a lot of the time when you see a Reaper he's emitting a purplish hue.

Black, white, and red isn't a bad idea. I can picture the planet in the background of the first trailer when the title is shown being dark with a reddish atmospheric coloring

the orange theme in ME2 actually worked extremely well IMO, but man, i ****ing hated the blue in mass effect 1. i mean i ****ing HATED that ****. it was especially the absolute worst color to choose for the inside of the normandy. i hope they go with an orange/red theme for ME3. this IS an action oriented game, blue is not action, blue is calming. red is action.

I'd resolve this the same way Deus Ex did - make the menu and HUD colors customizable. I think this is the best way to please most players...

ME1 had blue, ME2 had red so I think ME3 would either be green or yellow.

Agreed.

I'd go with blue again as I preferred the 'lighter' style of the first game. Also because I can't think of another colour that would suit it better, really.

Same goes for the Normandy, dark-blue, orange consoles, projected galaxy map... It just worked together nicely. The stainless steel-ness of the SR2 didn't really have much atmosphere or anything for me.
