And just because a file exists on the disk but isn't in-game doesn't mean it was cut for some nefarious profit-related reason.

I see your point about what you meant with plot lines. Thanks for clarifying on that one, and yes, I agree with you there's a difference between they way it's cut in KotORII and ME2.

However, regarding what I quoted, I'm really on the fence. The entire Cerberus network thing, two large DLC packs have their audio unused on the game disc and Kasumi was fully functional as a squad member with a decent placeholder model, the Aegis and Firepower DLCs are concepts from the art book, made way early in the game development... don't count me at all surprised if it turns out more if this stuff was cut out intentionally, only to appear later as restoration editions, DLCs, whatever form of paid content you can think of.  :?

"Day 1 DLC" is indeed an issue, but right now there really is no better way to incentivize consumers away from the used game market. And as much as I may dislike big-name publishers like EA and Activision, I hate Gamestop's brick-and-mortar moneytraps even more.

I don't mind the DLC system especially considering that with ME2 the vast majority of early DLC was free if you bought the game. And I don't mind buying their games. I think they are worth day 1 buys. I had rather that than the content be left dangling in the game or us never getting the content at all. This way they can release the game and still work on polishing afterward. It sucks if you don't have ready internet access but these days 90%+ of diehard gamers do. And as for the steady stream of DLC with tie-ins on the disk. I think there are several reasons for that. One is simply to make a profit and I don't begrudge them that. I mean, how is all this stuff added up any different than dropping 30-40 for an expansion pack? It's just that's all strung out in little bundles instead of being released on a disk all at once. I think another thing they are doing is that they want to keep people focused on ME. They want to keep a steady interest to draw people into ME3. Again, this only makes sense to me. And last, they have said that they had a planned schedule for DLC release since before ME2 came out. They do that partially to make up for the rather sloppy/haphazard DLC we got with ME1. If planned DLC means we don't have to put up with stuff like Pinnacle Station again than I am all for it. Now buggy DLC is annoying where you can't get it to download or certain regions can't get it or whatever. That I concede is a problem that needs fixing. But overall I don't think the DLC system is bad even if you download nothing, ME2 is still brilliant. It's not like the game isn't worth the money without DLC or something. Far from it. And as for most of the unused dialog I have heard dug up, I think there are really good gameplay/story reasons to cut them especially the Grunt/Mordin stuff. I could explain but I would have to go on rambling even more than I already have.

Wall o' text. Sorry. I am notorious for these.

But if DLC can be used to tie up dangling threads, what's to stop it from being used to dig up buried ones?

Neither you nor I know the difference in work required between the two approaches. What we do know is that the game will be judged and reviewed based on its state at release ("out of the box"), not its state three DLC and 5 patches later. Bioware cares about the former because good reviews influence sales - especially for people who are new to the franchise.

I feel kind of silly for primarily reacting to the sloppiness of leaving unused data in a finished product. :P

I must say, if anyone is a machine, it's that dancing turian. I bet he's good at more than dancing.

Rawr.

*ahem* Thanks for another great find! Really wish they'd use all the great audio they bothered to record.

It gives us precious insight though - now we know that Turian Females don't have "funny bumps."

Though they can easily retcon that later (and this may indeed have been a reason for suppressing the sound byte.)

Gah, I hope not. They give turian women boobs, and next thing you know it's the drell and the krogans! Where does it end? Non-mammalian species just shouldn't have breasts.

I have always supported no turian 'funny bumps'.

Maybe dancing is turian taboo?

I just thought of the Lol that would ensue if you replaced the turian with the Illusive Man. Illusive Man techno anyone?

Here's one of RiotLaFontaine's flycam screenshots of the dancing turian (pre-dancing), with some of the blue tint from the lighting neutralized.

It is clearly the same turian. He's totally hiding his secret life as a dancer.

LOL
I can just imagine if YouTube was still around in the future
one day while he's on the extranet & comes across this...

"OH SH*T !...NOOOOOO!!!!...253,456,458 hits already???....I'm never gonna live this down"

Haha, Wilihierax. Groundskeeper Willy. Love it :P

I assume you know that talking to Lilihierax on Noveria in ME1 after you've finished up at Rift Station will reveal a piece of dialogue regarding upgrading the Mako?

Female? Funny bumps? Does anyone else think female turians don't have something that female quarians and humans have??

Exactly why they should keep it in. Also, they recorded it, why not leave it in the game? Unless they designed female turians to have boobs, but we still haven't seen one.

I think the Dancing Turian doesn't realize his dancing talents, he may be a black out drunk. Going to clubs getting wasted and then in his drunken stated he breaks out these amazing dance moves and all the asari go nuts for him. Then he goes home, passes out, and wakes up not remembering what happened after drinking that funny alcohol.

So when he's at a club and is sober, he's confuse about all these asari always asking him to dance, and when he tries to dance with them it's awkward and the funny bumps get in his way.
