It is bred on racism. She blames the aliens in general for her grandfather's downfall. She is racist and uses the excuse of "security risk" to force Shepard into booting them out. She deslikes anything that doesn't have hair on it's head.

That's kind of a wild and brazen accusation don't you think?

She sympathizes with the quarians. Excerpt from elevator conversation:

Ash: So I hear that a lot of people are blaming the Quarians for the current Geth problem.

Tali: Well, we seem to think that getting kicked off our world, and wandering  the stars is punishment enough.

Ash: Hopefully people will see what you're doing to help us find Saren, and they'll change their minds about Quarians.

Does that sound like a racist to you?

In my client's defense; she's a racist, and a feminist.

I don't think ash is racist. She just doesn't have experience.

For the last time, Ash is not racist. She thinks that alien races will always put their problems ahead of humanities. Which is(SPOILER ALERT) THE ENTIRE PLOT OF MASS EFFECT 2!!!!!!!!

I don't believe in shades of grey. I go to one edge, or the other.

Witty. Image IPB

Anyway. To sum up my position: While Ash does occasionally display some prejudice towards aliens, her beliefs are founded on a much more broad and elaborate platform. She's a layered character, and that's why I think she's the best character in Mass Effect.

Sure, she harbors anger at Turians for what happend to her Grandfather, and who could blame her? The Turians show up out of nowhere, and decide to fire fist, and ask questions later. After destroying a few Alliance ships, they started bombarding a human city for God's sake.
Ash clearly possesses an un-paralelled tenacity, and loyalty to the Alliance. To the point where she questions her Commander's decision to allow aliens to roam freely through a classified, Alliance shuttle.
She thinks that the council will abandon humanity out of a sense of elitism. And when challenged on the matter, condemns Terra-Firma as a party of "racist jackals".
And she's willing to change her views on the council, if Shepard shares some of his idealistic views with her.
Ash also has no problem working with the Salarian team on Virmire, and actually volunteers for the job.

I don't know what other proof anyone needs.
Does she have some prejudice towards Turians? Yes.
Does she carry with her the emotional burden her family name bears? Yes.
Does she believe in an isolationist approach to galactic politics? Yes.
Is she a racist? The evidence clearly says that she's not.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Best character in ME!? (there's the overstatement of the year).

Ash was a person with mixed feelings about aliens. Nothing more, nothing less.

I said "I think she's the best character in ME". A subjective opinion by definition can't be an overstatement

Now if I blatantly stated "Ash is the best character of all time". That could be interpreted as an overstatement.

thank god, i didnt want to go through another playthrough just to changes ash's view lol. I wonder if it carries onto me 3?

Also, i agree with the other people saying ash isnt a racist, i used the wrong word in my OP. If you take her to talk to the terra firma party she always interupts them by saying they're a bunch of racists and should treat aliens better. SHe's just not used to working with aliens.
