And will it no longer be exclusive to rogues?

please don't

I don't want to waste my time with a mini puzzle.
it'll get repetitive and boring over time.

I hope it's not a minigame.. I'd rather my Mage have a spell to unlock things, and for a Warrior to smash it open. Well.. maybe there could be a better way for a Warrior to lock pick, but still. You get the point.

Yeah I'd prefer not to be forced to play minigames. That's one thing I did not really enjoy about the ME games personally.

BioWare isn't exactly well known for the mini games, at least known for thier quality.

I think rogues should be the only class that can pick locks. Maybe mages can use spells, warriors can bash into them, but there should be side-effects (destroyed loot) if you don't pick it with a rogue.

As for a minigame, I'm fine either way.

Indeed.

However, the intended audience (console) do not appreciate that, and would prefer not to be forced to take a rogue just to open locks. This is why electronic/hacking skills were removed in Mass Effect 2 and replaced by a minigame anyone can do.

Lockpicking games are best left to games like Mass Effect, which don't have any real rogues (well, except maybe there's one in ME2).

I would rather just have lockpicking be a skill like coercion that you must put points into and is open to any class, but that does not force a repetitive task on you each time you want to open something.

Stealth and stealing should be rogue-only skills and rogue dps should be dramatically increased to keep them enticing.

I think locks in general need to be reserved for rogues (it's somewhat of a perk to the class IMO). What they could do is, if you're not a rogue, allow the character to break the lock with the added consequence of damaged loot and no exp. gain.

I agree. If every char can do it then what's the point of having chests locked in the first place and the whole "if you don't use the rogue make it so that some of the content will break" argument doesn't do it for me. Good items will be unbreakable either way and nobody will care if elfroot that was also in the chest becomes junk.

The only thing that bothered me was that of the 2 rogue partymembers only Leliana had points in lockpicking. You got Zev later in the game and he was useless at lockpicking so it took quite a while for him to catch up.

It would be really inappropriate to implement a lockpicking minigame in DA2, but considering their wider and dumber audience for $$$ policy you never know...

Still, I think warriors and mages should have some means to access some locked containers and doors, if not all. Warriors can have a STR dependent class skill to smash doors open, receiving attention of nearby enemies in return, or break locked chests, damaging some of its contents like The Edge said.

Absolutely not. You have no idea how irritated I was when picking locks in Oblivion. 500 lockpicks just to be safe. Argh!

ohhhh yeahhh the oblivion system sucked.... especially because you just had to get lvl 10 or something, get the unbreakable key and make the whole minigame totally useless.....

Oh heavens no! That is the biggest problem I have with Mass Effect. They seem to think that it is a good idea to annoy me by adding stupid lockpicking minigames.

There's a unbreakable key?? Anyway, usually what I did was to click on 'auto' repeatedly, you're bound to be successful by the 20th attempt. Instead of er.... 20 minutes...

Looks like Bethesda couldn't leave players at the mercy of a spastictacular minigame to pick locks, hence this unbreakable lockpick artifact and unlocking spells.

Sorry for off-topic.

Well, a compromise would be alright. Rogues only need a cunning/skill check to open locks, whereas any other character must pick them manually.

No minigame please and PLEASE no more lockpicking being the only way to open chests.  It was annoyng to have to have a Lelianna in your party every time or slowly level Zev up until he could do it.  Let mages magic them open and fighters bash, or don't lock them.

Maybe they'll include an exciting and obligatory 'dungeon scanning' mini game.

I like the bash option that was mentioned. That was the system in KOTOR and that worked for me. Also I think they should implement an idea I saw in a mod. If your character doesn't have lockpicking skill but one of your team does, clicking on the lock auto tasks that team member to open it.
