Let's Talk about Varric!

...as a Love Interest

Well, I seem to recall David Gaider saying at one point that he would like to write a dwarf romance, and I know that we have some very dedicated dwarf players among the Origins fans, a lot of whom said they would really like a dwarf LI.

Seeing as Varric is by far the most attractive dwarf we've yet seen (in my opinion anyway), and probably spends a good amount of time with Hawke, I think he might be a romance option. Now, we all know you can't play as a dwarf in DA2, but would you still want a dwarven LI anyway? If you, like me, typically don't play dwarf characters in fantasy games, would you be into a dwarf LI?

How about Varric specifically as an LI option? He looks like a manly, dashing rogue type of character. I mean look at all the hair on his chest and that bling. He kind of looks like a pirate (and pirates are cool, come on*). Granted we don't know much about him, but what do you think? Would you or wouldn't you?

*disclaimer: I don't think he actually is a pirate.

Varric was born in Kirkwall. His family was noble before they became skyers. He is, therefore, a merchant prince among the surface dwarves. And that's probably all I can tell you about him for now. ~Mary Kirby

No one, and I mean no one, can resist Varric's chest hair. Poor man. Lovesick women of all species throwing themselves at him in the most embarrasing manner all the time...

He still doesn't have a beard.

All dwarves require a beard or else they'll fall into the sky, the beard is the only thing keeping them down on the ground.

I think it's very possible, he seems to be one of the primary companions of this game (ala Ash/Kaidan, Alistair/Morrigan etc etc etc.) not least due to his role in the framed narrative. If DG has said he would like to write a Dwarf romance (and why not?) then I can see a romance with Varric making his telling of your story interesting hehe.



My one demand is that if it turns out to be the case, that they also include a female dwarf companion you can romance. >.<

hhmmm, the question is how bio wants to do that with the framed narrative thing. you know, to get an opportunity to talk to cassandra varric would've to leave hawke one day... and theres nothing more sad than LIs leaving the main character.... well except for dead puppies maybe...

Fine but DA has the other Dwarves/Dwarfs beaten when it comes to the female of the species. At least female Dwarves in DA don't have beards (most of the time )!

But Varric recounting all of the game's events would mean that Varric is telling the story after the game's storyline (or maybe shortly before a final battle, like a "We were going to fight this evil guy but you stopped me to tell this story!")

Love interests aren't shackled to your leg, you know!

but theyre supposed to be 
anyhow he could be a pretty nice LI, but still i dont think he will... even tough it would be cool. the question is how long he remains with hawke... if its the full ten years i could imagine him being an LI...

Though I'm personally hoping for a Female Qunari Love Interest, I can see a Dwarven LI being possible...though I wouldn't put my Money on Varric. I don't know, he just doesn't seem like the LI type, more along the lines of the "Old Friend" who witnesses the extrodinary events that surrounded or were driven by The Champion of Kirkwall. We don't yet have the complete Cast list, so we don't know if there will be more then one Dwarven Companion. While there's a small chance, it *is* possible. Also, there may be the opportunity to pursue a Romantic life outside the Party. DAO gave us plenty of options for Lov'in; whether they were Moral choices was up to the player. I'm looking at you Gheyna stealers.


But getting back to Dwarven Romances, I think it's really possible. Though, Mr. Gaider doesn't seem as thrilled with the idea as some led us to believe...

Aww see, that's what delegation is for. Get someone else to do the 'dirty' work while we reap the rewards.

Just think, when Varric gets it on with Lady Hawke his perception of events (which I believe have been said to tailor some gameplay/events) will be a saturated happy colour, like looking through rose tinted glasses at a double rainbow. Or something.
