Was the constant bragging that gave it away?
Hey, to be fair, I have also bragged ridiculously about the prowess of Duncan's beard, and I didn't write a single line for it.

SHORT PEOPLE CAN LOVE TOO.
I mean, the guy who played mini-me has dated supermodels. Apparently there's something to it.

And Varric isn't? He has pretty epic chest hair. I think that counts for something.
For all we know, Varric could be the Brad Pitt of dwarves.

I think within our reactions to him lies the true answer.Alyka wrote...

Mmmm....now that was some awesome man-hair.
I wonder if Varric's chest hair has the same aphrodisic qualities.

He does seem like he might be taller. Would not be surprised if he were, if he were an LI. Man, if he's not an LI I have trouble imagining a likelier candidate for a male dwarf romance option.
I'm not sure if we'll really ever get a dwarf romance nowadays. It's just too Squick for a lot of people. If you're a dwarf it's not bad. But a dwarf LI...Was the David Gaider "ewwww dwarves have cooties!" post fer srs?
I don't know, I'd still prefer a qunari...
I hope for his sake it wasn't or he'll have a legion of angry dwarf players after him.
Is it just me or do people who play dwarves and hobbits and things in videogames tend to be really cool people? I'm not one myself (I think I might not be cool *enough*). I base this on years of MMO playing and these forums.

It's cropped but yes, it's official art. It's in the "What we know" thread if you're interested.
No idea how old he is. I'm guessing this is more towards the end of that 10 year span anyway, but his hair looks brown in that other concept art. It could be partially the lighting in there. But yeah, he looks older...though a lot of ladies here seem to want an older LI.

I always wanted a protagonist that is in his 50s. I think a lot of games make you too young. Just saying...

Personally, I don't think DG would outright be disgusting by a dwarf romance if one was included.
I want a human and qunari, dammit.
Won't it be funny if Varric is the only character with chest hair? I think so.
On the contrary, I only have to find a romance appealing if I'm the one writing it.Saibh wrote...

I'm sure there will be plenty of human LIs for both genders. And yes it would be funny if he was the only one with chest hair.

Nice, my main characters for the past two fantasy rpg's I have played were both one of those . Dwarves and Hobbit's ftw!

That was the original comment I was responding to, after all-- the idea that I wanted to write one.

Ah yes, the pre-release ritual where Mary lapoons the characters that she wrote (her babies?) for the amusement of forumites.
I hope DA2 gets delayed past spring, so that Mary continues her hilarious, yet ridiculous cameos on this forum.

I played Lord of the Rings Online for several years. I, of course, was an elf most of the time, but on the whole the dwarf and hobbit players were much less likely to be jerks in my experience (hobbits were the least likely). Humans were the most likely to be jerks although there were plenty that were awesome too. Elves were a mixed bag, although if their name was any variant of Legolas they were probably gonna be lame.
I just try to be as not-lame as possible while playing my elves and humans.
