Was the constant bragging that gave it away? :D

Hey, to be fair, I have also bragged ridiculously about the prowess of Duncan's beard, and I didn't write a single line for it.

My Lady Hawke would hit that like a freight train, so I hope Varric is romanceable. If not I'll survive, though. It's not like my female noble dwarf ever got to tell Sten how she felt :).

(If she had, I'm sure he would have been extremely confused.)

And Varric isn't? He has pretty epic chest hair. I think that counts for something.

For all we know, Varric could be the Brad Pitt of dwarves.

When presented with such overwhelming manliness how can one resist? You cannot.

Duncan's beard must never be united with Varric's chest hair. The fabric of reality itself would tear.

More like Jack Nicholson to me... Image IPB

Though, if hes romancible, and has his scene, PLEASE animators, do it with class... Dont want to see those DAO strange moves and weeird looks in the PC eyes as he/she ate smthg out of expiration date.

Varric in his throne looks cool; but in shorts and his belly hanging out, tongue kissing my female PC, that is not my ideal sight... Image IPB

Mmmm....now that was some awesome man-hair.
I wonder if Varric's chest hair has the same aphrodisic qualities.:kissing:

I think within our reactions to him lies the true answer.

It's cropped but yes, it's official art. It's in the "What we know" thread if you're interested.

No idea how old he is. I'm guessing this is more towards the end of that 10 year span anyway, but his hair looks brown in that other concept art. It could be partially the lighting in there. But yeah, he looks older...though a lot of ladies here seem to want an older LI.

Personally, I don't think DG would outright be disgusting by a dwarf romance if one was included.

I want a human and qunari, dammit.

Won't it be funny if Varric is the only character with chest hair? I think so.

I could appreciate an older LI.An experienced man surely has many stories to tell.I would've romanced Duncan if we were given the opportunity. The way he averted my advances in the HNF origin made me want him even more. lol
I'm hoping Varric is a romance option because the more we talk about it, the more I'm interested.Aside from that, I'm sure he will be an interesting character.

I'm not giving up hope yet, Mary has the power to overturn the Dwarfist (?) oppressor! C'mooon you know you want to!

As hairy and stocky as the men are (not always a bad thing), I don't see female Dwarves as looking like 14 year olds as a rule. I mean, particularly the non-noble cast Dwarves must be quite hard working and whatnot, that takes it's toll, age is about more than height!

Anyway, it seems futile to continue to resist Dwarf romance, in the end the beards always win out.

He does seem like he might be taller. Would not be surprised if he were, if he were an LI. Man, if he's not an LI I have trouble imagining a likelier candidate for a male dwarf romance option.

I'm not sure if we'll really ever get a dwarf romance nowadays. It's just too Squick for a lot of people. If you're a dwarf it's not bad. But a dwarf LI...Was the David Gaider "ewwww dwarves have cooties!" post fer srs?

I don't know, I'd still prefer a qunari...

I hope for his sake it wasn't or he'll have a legion of angry dwarf players after him.

Is it just me or do people who play dwarves and hobbits and things in videogames tend to be really cool people? I'm not one myself (I think I might not be cool *enough*). I base this on years of MMO playing and these forums.

Nice, my main characters for the past two fantasy rpg's I have played were both one of those . Dwarves and Hobbit's ftw!

I always wanted a protagonist that is in his 50s. I think a lot of games make you too young. Just saying...

they'd have to let you start a few levels up. At fifty there's no where to go really in terms of development.

I'm sure there will be plenty of human LIs for both genders. And yes it would be funny if he was the only one with chest hair. :D

On the contrary, I only have to find a romance appealing if I'm the one writing it.

That was the original comment I was responding to, after all-- the idea that I wanted to write one. :)

Ah yes, the pre-release ritual where Mary lapoons the characters that she wrote (her babies?) for the amusement of forumites.

I hope DA2 gets delayed past spring, so that Mary continues her hilarious, yet ridiculous cameos on this forum.

Unlikely, now that they have put it out there (so to speak) the demands for it to be added to the character customizer will begin. It's time for the adventures of Hairy Hawke.

I played Lord of the Rings Online for several years. I, of course, was an elf most of the time, but on the whole the dwarf and hobbit players were much less likely to be jerks in my experience (hobbits were the least likely). Humans were the most likely to be jerks although there were plenty that were awesome too. Elves were a mixed bag, although if their name was any variant of Legolas they were probably gonna be lame.

I just try to be as not-lame as possible while playing my elves and humans.

Yes! Wait no. Noooo.

Hm, any plans to do another interview-style blog entry in the future like you did with Wynne and Sten and the tower guard, Mary? I enjoy things like that.

Yeah that's what I play too. Hobbit Guardian, I just <3 the Shire, not to mention the Hobbit mentality. Pie's, beer and chilled out times in the countryside? Sign me up!
