It's just not manly enough for a real man to have regular hamster as pet. If they have such, then it obviously must be a miniature giant space hamster, to match the owner's own level of awesome.

Personally, Varric being a romance option would have a lot of implications on the plot. How much is Varric telling to the Seeker true? Is he saying that Hawke fell in love with him to yank her chain? Is Hawke's cup size a few sizes bigger in his story telling?

If Varric is not a love interest in DA2 and BioWare doesn't announce the Varric Age franchise before DA2 comes out, they won't be around to say Varric will be in DA3. That's the scale of the danger they're in.

More seriously, I (as a male player) want Varric to be a love interest. Then when I play female Hawke I can have Varric tell Cassandra stories about his "adventures." The look on that Inquisitor's face will be priceless.
