now you made me want sky pirates for DA2

Sky pirates are always welcome. Balthier was by far the raddest FF character in years.

Too bad he was the only good character in FFXII, that game completely killed the series for me.

So, if Varric is like a trade prince, does he run a cartel of some kind? Does he have a kind of gang? Is he more of a solo guy with a lot of money and respect? Does he have a boat to rival The Siren's Call?

On the other hand he might end up being like Captain Shakespeare from Stardust.

But he is also rad, in a completely different way. Maybe not something I'd want in a LI though, lol.

My guess is that he gets a lot of respect from his fellow skyers for being a Noble, but he probably has a lot of money if you look at the bling. So I think he is a leader of dwarven merchants.

now that you mention it, I liked the pirate guy from Phantasy Star Universe too, and found the ships in Speterra Cora pure awesome, especially this one

but then again, I find everything awesome in Septerra Core

He sounds like the type of character everyone loves, until some kind of dark secret from his past is revealed.

Edit: As he is the narrator, said past might be the story-present.

Could be. I can't recall ever meeting a character like that and then having the secret actually make me dislike him/her though.

Well, we will probably figure out why his family became skyers, and anyway a dark secret will make Varric even more interesting.

as in at the end of his tale it turns out he was the one who poisoned Hawke, or that he was the one who stole the cookie?

No that didn't bother me, it was the realization that Hayden Christenson can't act.

I'm wondering if this "merchant prince" thing contradicts the reports of "king" we got in GameStar, or if that's actually a spoiler of sorts....

I'd say GameStar got it wrong. I mean, Mary is a more reliable source isn't she?

Unless she's toying with us!

I believe it means he already starts out as a rich trader with noble origin and later also becomes a king, what I am interested in is of what exactly does he become king of

Varric is most definitely not a king. He gets a pretty nice chair for his interrogation by Cassandra, but I think that might just be because they couldn't get that thing out of the room without a chisel and a lot of help.

Well hey let's not go too far. We don't even know who else Bioware might have up their sleeve.

oookay, now it looks like as if the article was wrong, and Varric just lost all his wealth in Las Vegas when the interrogation starts

Indeed, but by the time that becomes clear he'll be long gone. After all, the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

And like that, he's gone.

Well, he probably becomes viscount of Kirkwall, but why and how is indeed a mystery.

Are viscounts chosen by a majority of people?
Or do they have to be of a Noble bloodline like other kings and queens?
