Hi, this evening I bought 1600 Bioware Points, and used them to purchase the Feastday Gifts and Pranks, Darkspawn Chronicles, Leliana's Song, and Golems of Amgarrak.
All downloaded and appeared to install fine, but I was then told I didn't have an up-to-date enough version of DA:O to play them, so I installed 1.04.
Now, when I go to "Other Campaigns", only Darkspawn Chronicles shows up in the list. In the Downloadable Content list, Leliana's Song and Golems of Amgarrak are listed as "Unauthorised".
I searched this forum, and the only references I can find are threads saying that there have been many people with the same problem, but few people actually talking about the same problem, and no solution in sight that doesn't involve installing third party editors or messing around in the depths of the install folder. Even that solution was given as a workaround for Leliana's Song which was released a month ago - Golems of Amgarrak was only out yesterday, surely they wouldn't have released it knowing it wouldn't work!
Perhaps someone can tell me the definitive fix to make this work, that does NOT involve installing dubious third party tools that may or may not work with current or future versions of the game? At the moment 960 of the 1600 points I spent have been wasted, which, as you can imagine, I am absolutely furious about. Seriously - purchase, install, play. Those are the only three steps I want (or should have) to take to play this content.
Leliana's Song and Golems of Amgarrak "unauthorised"?

First, check that you are logged in Dragon Age with the same account you used to purchase these DLCs.
After the game launch, try the following:
1. from main menu, check that you are logged in then select Downloadable Content
2. if you see your DLCs on a green background, continue to step 7
3. wait for Point Balance to be updated
4. close the panel
5. click again Downloadable Content
6. this time you should see your installed DLC on a green background and the Points Balance in update mode again
7. wait for Points Balance to be updated
8. close the panel.

I have the same problem with the 1.04 patch and DLC authorization which is extremely annoying. I did exactly the same steps as JackM mentioned above till I found a better and quicker solution... Just don't log in in-game and uncheck the option "keep me always logged in".

OK, done all of that. No change. Still lists GoA and LS as "unauthorised", and also lists them on the "Available" page as not yet purchased (though my points balance is zero, proving that they have been purchased).
No matter how many times I go to the Downloadable Content page, wait, come out again, go back in... still shows up as "unauthorised", still not available to play, and I've still been robbed of 960 points. Or to put it another way: real money.

Tried the "stay logged out" idea too. Exactly the same result. Seems like it wouldn't be very satisfactory anyway - what about when the "next" DLC package is released? How would I download and play that if I'm logged out?

Have you registered your game here? Maybe the 1.04 patch has an extra protection feature with DLCs or something.

Go to Documents -> BioWare -> Dragon Age -> Settings
Delete the Profile.dap and the Manifest.xml file.
I had this issue earlier (reinstalled the game last night, after formatting my computer). Most of my DLC, including ones I purchased or came with the game (The Stone Prisoner, for example), where unauthorized, as well as new ones. Deleting those two files fixed it for me.

You can try to start the Dragon Age Updater service prior to launching DA:O.
For this, open Windows main menu, select Run..., enter "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
In Services window, look for Dragon Age: Origins - Updater service. Right-click on it and select Start in the drop-down menu. Once the service has been started, launch DA:O.

Yes, game is registered, I played 250+ hours of the main game, and 25+ hours of Awakening without any problems*... plus I have, like, *paid money* for these expansions so extra protection would be a bit unnecessary, surely?
Tried the DA:O Updater Service, too. I can start it up minutes before opening DA:O itself, has no effect either way.
It's approaching midnight here so I'll try deleting the files CocoaMac mentioned, tomorrow. What does that actually *do*, though? What are those files for? I'm very uncomfortable with deleting random files that, for all I know, will just makes things worse - whether this time, or next...
* - hmm, "without any problems" is a bit of an exaggeration. The Shale DLC broke, as did Warden's Keep, and there were a few other issues too... but they all got resolved and it's a big, complex game so such problems can be forgiven... as will these if I can make them work, but it sounds like they (Golems at least) were released knowing full well some people would have issues with them?

The files are related to the updater. The Profile.dap file is created when you log in, and is related to your profile and contains your achievements (it will be recreated when you log in, with all your achievements from the social site) , and the manifest file contains information relating to DLC. They will both be recreated.
I also deleted files under Users -> All Users -> BioWare -> Dragon Age -> DAUpdater
None of these will have a negative effect (except for the last one, which will clear out partially downloaded DLC- which you can download again), as they are recreated by the game.

OK, well, I moved those files to one side, loaded DA:O up again, and no improvement - in fact quite the opposite, now almost everything shows up as "Unauthorised", probably three quarters of the DLC items are now "Unauthorised", not just the two expansions mentioned.
So I figured, not to worry, at least I moved those files instead of deleting them - so I restored them - to no effect. I still have almost everything showing up as unauthorised. Brilliant.
I am very, very angry with Bioware about this. I've given them my money and got no value out of it, and they must have known it was going to happen as people were complaining about things like this since the Leliana DLC arrived. Did they fix it? No, they just released more, knowing people were going to get robbed. It's outrageous. And worst of all - the only place to go for support is this forum, where well-meaning but ultimately not well-informed people do their absolute best to help (thanks for all suggestions!) but to no avail.
It's just not good enough... yet again there are problems with DLC. I don't really know where to go from here, at the moment Bioware have stolen my money and I can't play the game I've paid for. It's just disgraceful.

I have this problem too but I did what Cocoa did and I got the golems to work but my Lily's song is still saying unauthorised ... I have the acheves for it before now I can't play it heh sounds like Bio needs to fix this unauthorised problem with the DLC's not seeing in my Profile that I bought them... I have faith in Bio for fixing this I hope!

Bitterman: Did you stop your DAUpdater services prior to doing anything?

Posté 16 août 2010 - 11:29
Hang on, *stop* DAUpdater? I thought the supposed fix (which doesn't seem to work) was to *start* DAUpdater a few minutes before running the game?
When you say "prior to doing anything"... exactly what do you mean by "anything"?

From the STICKY:
5) DLC is unauthorized and the game won’t let me load my saves.
As long as you play logged in the game tries to connect to the server to verify your rights to the content. It cannot do that without the Dragon Age Origins Content Updater service It is supposed to start when the game launches, but there is a timing issue where it does not always get fully started before the game tries to check with the server. (Hopefully at least mostly resolved with Patch 1.03)
First try and manually start the service just to make sure that it will run properly :
1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START
If the service starts manually.
Likely you do have the timing issue related the service getting started quickly enough. Patch the DA Updater using one of the following:
Patch 1.03 (Preferred) - Includes the most up to date fixes for the DA Content Updater. Some users have reported that installing Patch 1.03 leaves the service in a bad state, running the DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta after running the patch seems to resolve this.
DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta - Standalone beta application that includes DA Content Update service fixes that later went into Patch 1.03. Only use this if you don't want the other changes in Patch 1.03. Originally posted by Bioware's Jason Leong
Service is not on list, times out, or stops immediately.
The DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta application has some diagnostic tools that can resolve some of these issues if you run it. It can be safely installed over Patch 1.03, as it includes the same version of the DA Update Service files as Patch 1.03, and checks the version numbers to make sure its not overwritting something newer. It will preform the various Windows operations necessary to get the service working correctly, even if the files were already updated.
If you continue to have issues there are manual steps to fix the service in Section 3 of Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ .
System cannot find the file specified error.
DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe, the "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update" executable, cannot be found at the location Windows is looking for it at. If you have moved your Dragon Age Installation, Windows may still be looking for the executable in the old location, even with a full reinstall.
To check where Windows is looking for it:
* Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
* Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
* Right click and select Properties
* Check Path to Executable and make sure that it is the correct path for where DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe is in your installation. (Generally located in the bin_ship directory, but a search of your harddrive can find it.)
If the path is incorrect, its a relatively simple registry fix. If you are uncomfortable using the registry, you could also follow the instructions on how to uninstall and reinstall the service in section 3.2.4 of the Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ .
To fix it in the registry:
* Run Regedit.exe
* Search for all references to DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe
* When you find the ones that are under DAUpdaterSvc, update the ImagePath key to point to the correct location for DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe.
* To update the ImagePath key, right click on ImagePath[/url] and select Modify. This will bring up a text box where you can edit the path. Make the changes and click [b]Ok.
Play Logged Out
If you don't want to go through all that hassle, you should be able to play the game just fine with all your DLC logged out. Make sure to actively log out in the game, and that "Always log me in" is off. If the game is not letting you load the game when logged out, make sure your CD Key is stored in the registry properly. See this thread for details on how to check that is and to fix it.
None of that works, my content is still unauthorized
This can often be caused by a problem writing to the My Documents\\\\Bioware\\\\Dragon Age\\\\Settings\\\\profile.dap file. Make sure that the file is writable. You can also try renaming the file to something else, and forcing the game to regenerate it, which it will do the next time you log in. Achievements are also stored in this file, so you want to make sure you don't delete the old version until you're sure everything is working. If your achievements have been uploaded to the social site they will be redownloaded to your computer when you log in.

Right, so yeah, done all of that - I'm using version 1.04, which was installed last, and started the DAUpdater service in plenty of time, Windows can find it without issue, but things are still unauthorised. I tried playing the game logged out, but things are still unauthorised. And I tried regenerating profile.dap, which made nearly *EVERYTHING* unauthorised (instead of only two things, ie. it made things worse).
So, yes, all of that has been tried, as I've already described, yet still my DLC is now all unusable. Any further ideas? Any indication that Bioware know about this, or care, or are working on a fix?
