We were talking about content that promotes first-sale being a good idea or not. Not paid-for DLC.

Making that content - the DLC that's freely available to BioWare customers - also available to resale customers for a fee (as Shale was with DAO - Shale came free with the game, but if you bought a resale DAO you had to pay $15 for Shale) was, I think, a terrific business idea.

I applaud BioWare and EA for that one.  Extemely clever idea.

I wonder how you can damge the market, its not like you could implement DRM in paper ^^

Planned obsolescence. We push out new editions all the time even when there's no real call for them. If the professor makes the class go to a new edition most of the students will end up buying it even if there aren't many changes, and they could follow the class just fine with the previous edition.

It'S EA's "Project Ten Dollar". Most EA games tend to be doing this now and it's leading to a lot of people saying it's the worst thing ever and that EA are stupid. I think they'd prefer restrictive DRM over it.

Edit: I actually like the idea.

I didn't like it too much. It made it clear Shale wouldn't be pivotal to the plot in any way, and made him feel less vital of a character.

Really?

I felt Shale's importance as a character to be roughly the same as Sten / Oghren / Zevran / Wynne. While not REALLY important, they had their uses.

This problem would go away if you would stop metagaming.

Are you suggesting that it isn't blatantly obvious? o.O I thought I was responding to a typo.

To people who haven't bought the DLC it isn't obvious.  To people who don't complete the quest line it isn't obvious.

It's a pretty big reveal.  Even Shale thinks so.  Why you would deny other players that discovery I don't understand.

What's so bad about them wanting to combat re-sales?

Making money is clearly evil?

Either that or Rubbish Hero has a daily bitterness quota to achieve. I can't decide.

Ohohohoh, just because activision treats its customers like crap, is not an excuse for EA to do the same.

Bobby Kotick will always be Bobby Kotick, but EA is not Activision.

Fine your a company, make money, but Release Day DLC is d.ick move.

you mean to tell me, that while the game has been completed and is in the 2 month process of shipping, you THEN decide to work on new DLC? Why couldnt it have been in the original game? When I look back at all the Dragon Age DLCs, most are recycled environments plastered with some new voice acting, doesn't look very hard to make at all.

Or just got lazy with new content? and somehow it magically got delayed for the main release, but finished at the convenience of selling content electronically.

If that actually spoiled something for anyone, I'm sorry. But I don't see how it would. In my mind it's the same as saying Wyne is a she or Leliana is a she.

So something that was news to Shale is something you determined the very moment you met the giant person made of stone?

How could you tell?  I certainly couldn't tell.

DLC is made from seperate funding of the original game, if they had time to create a DLC that was seperate from the main game with thousands of dollars they didn't have provided to them from EA .. you want them to charge it for free?

No its not.

No worries, just try and be more careful next time. All these posts should be deleted imho.

as I said most of this DLC is quite crappy. Just recycled maps with new lines of dialogue. Do you honestly need that much funding for this?

The moment she started talking more or less. It was her voice. I was at least suspicious of it. The first things she said after I gave her a new crystal sealed it. From that point on there was no question that she was female in some way.

I still wasn't aware of ... other things, that shall not be named. But the "gender," such as it is in a construct, was plain.

Why shouldn't a customer be allowed to sell a game like any other product?

I understand that complaint but it doesn't stop it from costing the company man hours and money that could've been spent elsewhere, such as working on Mass Effect 3 instead.

edit: I know ME3 is a bad example, I just couldn't think of anything else.

You can't be serious. Leliana and Wnyye look like females, and know they're females. Shale doesn't.

Neither of those was anything close to conclusive evidence for me.

The voice sounded genderless, to me.  And the crystal comment is something anyone could say (I make jokes about retaining my "girlish figure" - that doesn't make me a girl).

Details in the post above. But yeah, as I said, it didn't feel much different that saying that about Leliana, Wyne or Morrigan. Maybe my head is strange, but that's not something I can help.

Ok, so that's you. For me it was "oh, female. Noted."
