soloing dragon age on any difficulty above casual: i call bull****

even if you're a mage, i don't believe you. let's just say you use cone of cold, which isn't even possible to get early on, it freezes enemies for like a second, and then you cast like, the only other primal spell you have, then you're on your weak staff damage that won't do any damage whatsoever.
and for all those people who show soloing boss fights, okay, i can beleive you soloed that boss. but for origins stories and other parts, i call bull**** on you. it's not possible.
before you congrajulate someone for a claim on soloing nightmare, take a minute and think. is it possible?

What I tend to take with a grain of salt are claims of soloing nightmare without using potions or exploits and no deaths at all.

Also you can regen alot of health in combat, most solo nightmare rogues kill something stealth, regen health, unstealth and kill something repeat.
Ive only ever heard/seen from one reputable source about a SnS Warrior Solo Nightmare, no potions or reloads.

If you back off even further, combat will end, and you can regenerate. But doing that over and over is not my idea of fun.deceptious wrote...
even if you lure one guy away, you don't recover life since you're still in battle. you can only do that four times before you die.
At high level, with the right build you can, to borrow Marjolaine's phrase, dispatch four or five at a time without much trouble. And the origins are scaled so you can survive with one or two people. It's the middle of the game that is probably trickiest.
I soloed for a while, but I find I miss the chatter.

AW/BM can do this relatively easy. For half of the character, it's easier to play it as a pure mage, which is more difficult to solo with. At level 14, when you can get Shimmering Shield and Blood Wound, it becomes very easy.Eurypterid wrote...
I believe it's possible, absolutely.

No potions at all? Probably not, as Ogres and Dragons will still hit you with some attacks. But otherwise, an AW/BM can keep itself up very well. No deaths? It would be tedious, but given the fact that it is possible, it is therefore also possible to have a perfect run, just very unlikely.
I went into the Baroness encounter not knowing about the heal that she has, and thus did not respec to pick up Curse of Mortality. It took me a half an hour, but I was able to keep myself up with just heal, no potions.
Food for thought for the OP: it is possible to reach 100% Dodge on many characters through legitimate means. It is also easy to become quite unhittable through high defense. These alone make soloing nightmare obviously possible, but they are still not required.

Don't believe? Look at my last hero:
http://social.biowar...na_id=218228226
Contribution to party damage: 98
Most powerful foe slain: Archdemon
It doesn't show that the difficulty is really nightmare, but I don't care if you don't believe
The game isn't very difficult, only several battles are really challenging (depending on the build of the hero).

I have not completed a nightmare solo run, but I've played long enough to say that it's definitely possible. As for health regen, there is Rose's Thorn and Lifegiver, for example.
How would you afford those items early on though, well actually now as long as you complete the Gollums DLC anybody will be able to afford them seeing as Bioware have given us a nice little gold cheat of an item as a reward.
I believe some people can manage it but half of those who say they do are either using cheats or telling porkies if you ask me.

You can't afford them early on which makes the first half of the game the hardest part. But you get more money than normal since you can sell all equipment normally being worn by your companions. I must admit that in the first half of the game I was Master Varathorn's best customer... But in the last half of the game he must have wondered if I had forgotten all about him.

To all the doubters, I think you just have to try it yourself. I started my nightmare run thinking "Ok, let's just see how far I get." You will discover that your approach to the fights will change from what you do with a party. (If this hadn't been in the no spoiler forum I could have given a couple of examples.)
I dont know, why not ? There are "Lets Plays" of DAO that are really beautiful...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For me really its very hard to see what will I get from that. For me DAO its not about the combat, but the story, and the interactions with your party. Sure, combat is fun, but not the main thing for me. MHO.

Also, without going into details, depending on the character you choose for your origins, you'll have access to a lot more money than the rest.

good point, if you're not worrying
about your party members gear then you certainly will have more gold. I
can imagine once your character levels to a certain degree the soloing
becomes easier, I can quite easily imagine being able to solo Awakening
for example.
Still don't think I would be able to get through parts of origins though.
Yeah, I continued the Solo Nightmare run in Awakening and found it to be brutally easy. As for Origins, yes there are quite a few frustrating parts you could run into. Patience, practice, and perseverance (well, and luck) will get you through them. Just remember some classes will have an easier time at it (Mage > Rogue > Warrior in this case as far as relative ease.) But just build your character carefully and all 3 classes can do it.

On one of your characters you have like 4 pre order items equipped, mind me asking where you got them from as i'm assuming you didn't pre-order the game four times lol

Well, the motivation for doing a solo run is a totally different issue, isn't it? The original question was if it's possible to do a solo run.Technically, the answer is a simple yes. The question about WHY doing it at all is a matter of taste and preferences. It makes the game more challenging combatwise. Personally, I also discovered that it made a difference storywise. I discovered that it was mentally much easier for me to make "evil" choices since I didn't have to worry about disapproving companions.

There are a couple of very easy, if cheap, ways of doing that solo.
