It seems like since the free stuff has ended, the DLC for Mass Effect has started to become a bit more adventurous in terms of what's being implemented, I like to look at this as the Mass Effect team testing out new tech and coding in an effeort to incorporate new things in Mass Effect 3.  Here are some of the new things we've seen (and my theories on what they could be used for in ME3):

Tech:

1.  The Firewalker:  This pack introduced a new vehicle and a new mission type that was meant to be seen as an evolution over the Mako exploration in Mass Effect 1.  It brought with it better handling on the vehicle although on a more linear level design, as well as weapons for use while driving.

2.   Kasumi:  The pack brought with it not only a new character but also a different kind of mission which involved alot more persuasion and undercover CSI-type work, it also had a bit of a new presentation when Kasumi gave the mission briefing, adding to the CSI feel of it.  Kasumi herself also had something we haven't seen before, a teleport type kill move that could be used on enemies across the room, as well as the flash grenades that could be used by you and enemies to cause a disabling effect on the reciepiant of the attack.

3.   Firepower Pack:  While this pack was only a weapons add on pack, it did add a test of a shotgun variant in terms of what it fires as well as the charge ability to a standard non-heavy weapon.  The biggest change in the pack however was the pistol which had a laser sight when zooming in, instead of the standard reticule that was more accurate then the reticule then when not zoomed in.

4.   Overlord:  Nothing quite like the other packs, but just as welcome, this DLC showed alot in the way of new visual flares with the Matrix-like computer writing flowing about the stage which really improved the over all look and feel of the story.

5.   Shadow Brooker:  This is purely theory since the DLC isn't out yet, but if Liara is accompanying you in it during the actually shooting, then this shows that Bioware is working more on having a non-squad members helping you during battles and moving along side you; it was seen in one of the loyalty missions, but the npc was essentially just a turret.

Theories:

1.   The Firewalker:  As long as people mostly respond favorably to this we could easily see a further evolution of the Hammerhead in ME3, as well as more open missions that involve it.  We might even finally see something that alot of people have been hoping for which is a customizable Hammerhead that can have it's weapons, armor, and shields improved (through research like you could do with the Normandy-2) and colors customized.

2.    Kasumi:  I for one would love to see more missions done that have variations on this scale.  It's something that could really help player get into the game more if they feel as though they are just playing the same level over and over again, especially if we see more things like "Who Dun-it" missions with a moderate level of difficulty in terms of being able to solve it, spiced up with a bit of crime scene investigation (I'm sure the Omni-tools could be used for that story wise).  I know alot of people were dissapointed that we couldn't give Shepard Kasumi's signature attack at some point, but looking at it from a tech stand point it really wouldn't work unless they made you literally teleport from one part of the room to the other in a split second, which could end up being confusing to some players.  Unless they give it some major changes, I doubt we'll see anything like it given to Shepard in ME3.  As for stun grenades, if ME3 does end up getting a multiplayer aspect it would definately be a nice addition to it, along with the inferno grenades from Zaeed.

3.   Firepower Pack:  I would certainly enjoy seeing more variety put into different weapons of the same class rather then just different ammo rate and fire power, maybe some sniper rifles in fact shoot out charged up and precision laser blasts, or a machine gun could shoot out tiny bombs that connect to someone then detonate after a certain amount of time, only at a very slow rate of fire.  The laser sight would probably get the biggest use if it's well recieved in the way that the targeting reticule would be used to give a general aproximation of where the bullets would go when firing from the hip, but then the laser sight would pop up and the reticule could dissapear during zoom in's for certain weapon types.  If you know the bullets going to go directly where your shooting, then there's no real need for a targeting reticule to cluter the screen, just a visually appealing and noticable laser.

4.   Overlord:  More visual flares could add to the level design art to help even more in giving each individual area or dungeon it's own uniqe feel.

5.   Shadow Brooker:  If Bioware is experiement with having Shepard being helped by npc's during full run n' gun combat, then this could lead to some truly epic moments in ME3.  Since the whole galaxy will eventually be getting involved in the war, we could see missions were it's a huge battlefield and Shepard has his squad with him, as well as a bunch of turian/asari/krogan soldier npc's fighting along his side.
