Hello DA fans,
I am consideriing between preordering DA2 for the PC or the 360. Now, I would have gone straight to the console version because that's just how I was raised (Baldur's Gate PS2!) and I love holding a controller, but I've read that there may be stronger differences between gameplay styles in each version than in DAO. I have never gotten to experience mods or patches: am I missing out on the after party? What do you guys think?

Well...the PC version of DAO was much better in terms of interface and graphics. And, throw in the ability to mod the game and there you go. RPG's have almost always been better on PC's...much like sports games are better on consoles.

If you want to have mods for the game, u have to order the PC version.

Otherwise, if u like controllers :) then order the 360 version.

But I belive the playing RPG on PC is way better. That's just my opinion.

Yeah that seems to be the general opinion: buy the PC version. It's just the PC as a gaming console is so alien to me. I'll have to make the decision between mods or comfort...sigh.

Eh, seemed to flow better on the console with the gamepad for me. No incessant constant pausing.

Gameplay's at least somewhat different between the two as well, so it's not just mods.  Console versions had to take into account console limitations, after all.

Don't talk about BG Dark Alliance. Just a warning:

Kevin Lynch wrote...

Oof, in case no one mentioned it yet, BG:DA is not related to the PC BG games at all, nor made by BioWare.

We don't talk about BG:DA and we visciously club those that do. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/bandit.png[/smilie]

Well, not really, but sometimes we think about it. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png[/smilie]

You can play tactically on the console, well atleast in the first. I think the OP would be better to wait and make his decision based on more/better info.

I to have had the same dilemma, rebuilt my PC to handle most any challenge but just couldn't bring myself to play games on the PC. Getting used to a gamepad can be a hard habbit to break. Also, being one that has experience on both platforms, I can say in confidence that there is very few games out there that really utilize the gamepads abilities.

I however cannot argue the console version will be better, for I actually believe the PC version will be, as is usually the case.

I wish i had this game on PC, I had KOTOR on PC, probably my favorite game ever, but its too damned expensive to upgrade computers, so i have to settle for PS3. I had to buy an X360 just to play Mass Effect because my computer started to age.

How old is your PC? For the price of a PS3 a year ago, you could upgrade pretty well.

Indeed. If I wanted to upgrade my video card, I'll have to get a new power source as well. I could buy a console with that kind of cash.

Pays to do your homework when buying a pc.  :pinched:

Wait til they reveal more about gameplay publically. In particular, we want to see more about the different versions, whether they play differently, how different PC and console each are from their predecessor. After that, you can decide PC or console, or we can help you decide.

Well, yeah you could be tactical on consoles too, but not as much as u could on PC.

Upgrading PCs costs a lot. I had to play on my brother's PC since mine is way too old to run games like DA:O. I have 360 too but I just can't get myself into the handling on XboX after the PC.

So I just hope that I will be able to run DA2 on PC, even if not on the best perfomance.

I've play DA:O on PC and Xbox 360 and to me personally they both offer a tremendous experience. I've always been partial to consoles though. So in my opinion I would say get it on a console if you like a more fast paced combat style and and using a controller. Graphically I would have to say that the PC version is definitely the better of the two. PC is great because of all the mods. Haha I said i'm partial to consoles and then give reasons why the PC version is better.

I'd wait for more information. Unlike the first game, Bioware isn't porting anything so both versions should feel more natural to their native medium (consoles and PC). The gameplay is reportedly different between the versions with the consoles being quicker-paced and the PC remaining very tactical. But we don't know that much at this point, I'd wait and see.

Normally i would say PC, but after the latest announcements of bioware, i would just wait.

By the way, can every1 please stop the "pc is so expensive"-thing, its simply not true. It was true some years ago, but hardware has become rather cheap, and graphics seem to have stopped due to consoles.

I bought my PC almost 2 years ago, yet i can play any game at 1920x1200 with all maxed out (okay expect Crysis and GTA IV (because its a bad port ...))

So if i were you i would just wait, if you liked DAO, maybe you dont even like DA2 so i would just wait for reviews on the different platforms.

Yeah thats wahat they said, but it didnt make any sense from the begining, and new statements dont even support that idea anymore. (Sry but i cant imagine a way to develop a game without lead-Plattform, do you really think they are making every texture and model and even the code twice? Obviously they develop for the Xbox360 and now they even stated they wont do iso on the pc because they wont even invest a few 1000 for better Textures for the pc version ...)

So what i wanted to say, i hardly think they will do everything twice since its too expensive cause you would develop the same game twice, so they obviously now doing the Xbox Version and will adjust it to PC later, i just hope they will do a good port and not a crappy one.

only game i ever played on the pc was LOTR BFME so i dont know much about pc games not to discriminate the cpu or anything but to me this is the only game that ive felt for the xbox 360 that actually feels like you are building on aspects more than a game, to see that armor on your character shine and the semi intesne action feeling with the stick (controller) is just a value that is actually worth time. theres no assumptions of man when i beat this game will i never pick it up again until the next game. this is a game that stands out every time you are playing it (contractors build houses and for terms in this game on the xbox360  it feels like you are building something just as big) also you will be drawn in by the drama just as much im sure playing on a tvImage IPB- Honesty is a key to succeed

BTW. i dont get the comfort argument? I play on a 24inch Monitor with a nice chair. So comfort is a question of the chair/screen-combination you bought ;)

Well DAO's PC version was vastly superior to the console version, no question. This time around, though, it seems like each version is going to play to the strengths of the platform so it might boil down to a matter of preference. We're going to need a little more info on the PC version to know for sure, however.

I'll most likely choose the PC version again but really, if the console version is better I'll buy it.
