For so many origins and possible specializations, there seems to be a relative few archetypes for how to play them. Most human noble females are morally good selfless people who inevitably seem to marry Alistair, mages tend to flutter between 'I must be a good mage' and 'fear my warlock's evil!', elves hate/distrust humans (unless human love interest changes their minds), and so on. The Chantry is good and is mostly supported (unless Dwarf or Dalish), the Ashes preserved, take joy in killing Howe/all the Origin 'villains' (even if your origin has no knowledge of it), and so on yet again.

Conventional approaches for a conventional enjoyment of the game. None of those are absolute, mind you, and I'm not saying they're wrong. But...

Have you ever done a roleplay that you felt really went against the grain? Something so standoffish it might have been heretical? A Dalish, perchance, who feels disgusted with Dalish culture on grounds that, hey, didn't the humans prove to have the stronger god time after time? A human noble who, quite frankly, hated his/her parents for stifling them/trying to marry them off/knowing they would be passed over for their brother, and so weren't sad at all at Howe's treachery? An honest to god heretic, siding with the Dragon Andraste?

Tell your tales and ideas here.

I had a dwarf commoner that put Harrowmont on the throne and got disowned by his sister, Rica. After all was said and done, the only two people left at the post-coronation ceremony were Sten and Loghain. ;)

Well, my HNF loved her family but hated being a noble. She was a rebel of sorts and cared little for mingling with nobility. She had zero romantic interest in Alistair and the idea of being Queen was repulsive to her.

She was still a morally good person but not entirely selfless. She spared Avernus because he knows how to control the taint, something she's very interested in. She also never even considered doing the US and had no problem with doing the DR.

My m!Surana is a nebbish.  He got the Ashes all right, but in every other major encounter, either NPCs are calling the shots or he's acting out of fairly selfish fear (of a qunari invasion, not the Blight).  He's made some real bad choices but doesn't revel in them like your standard power-hungry mage stereotype does.  He whines about it in his diary and feels like he 'gets' Loghain, doing awful things to save 'his people.'  I'll be glad to see the back of him.

My Male!Cousland resents his older brother as being the "Favored Son". He thinks he's always living in Fergus' shadow and that his father is coddling him (and come on, what kind of young man would enjoy having their father call them "pup"?).

I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this (even though it feels like it most days) but my DN never likes the Surface. Ever. She tolerates it because she has to, sees the Grey Wardens as a temporary things and her obligation to them ends once the Blight does (she doesn't do Awakening because she really doesn't give a damn), doesn't really hold Bhelen's betrayal against him, but ultimately decides to put Harrowmont on the the throne because talking to Bhelen reveals how hostile he is towards her which she doesn't think is in her best interest and she also wants the throne. She doesn't romance anybody and leaves for Orzammar again practically the minute the coronation is over and Gorim gives her the good news.

I have an unconventional warden, but I'm not sure if her duster story is conventional or not. The dwarf fandom is pretty small and I don't come across many DC lovers, so notttttttttt sure.

Hmm, I made a new Dalish PC today and I plan him to be a world open, looking forward to travel and being a Grey Warden type of character. He thinks the hate on humans is outdated since it was so long ago and that is time to make some kind of peace with it. He can understand that some of his people are not able too but personally he finds it really stupid. Concerning those character traits, I think he'll be best fitting with Leliana.

Well, unlike most CE's I've read fics about,my F!Tabris has never hated humans, and still doesn't even after what happens to her on her wedding day.But she becomes really insular for a while, and refuses to converse with any of her companions until they've at least resolved the issues in the Circle Tower and she begins to trust them a little.

--And eventually she falls for Alistair, which may or may not be a horrendous cliché.

I think at this point the only unconventional romance choices are using a mod that allows a man to romance Alistair and a woman to romance Morrigan. Every other possible pairing has been done. A lot.

I played a Dwarf Noble who did not want to be in charge, just wanted to fight, and was actually glad that Bhelen got him exiled. Then he was annoyed that Alistair put him in charge, and would not take a leadership role until the end.

I liked playing Dain since he wanted to do everything and see everything, making him a total wide-eyed tourist for most of the game. Put Bhelen on the throne, and took Leliana, Dog, and Zevran and went to see what was going on in Orlasis.

I also RPed him as getting drunk and the wardens kidnapping him to bring him to Amaranthine.

Both HNs I've played (F and M) were kind of psychopaths who banged everything in sight and ended up on the throne with Zevran and Leliana on the side. My ****!m!Cousland was more of a cartoon character than a roleplay, come to think of it...

Well, I did do that for my canon PC (HNM romancing Alistair).  I'm not sure his actual game choices were all that unique (Lift Curse/Save Connor/Save Mages/Harrowmont/Caridin/kill Loghain/Dark Ritual/Anora rules alone), but the game definitely feels a little different played that way.  For example, although an HN romancing Alistair, I never even considered trying to convince him to marry me.  I think the mod would have allowed me to do so, but it was much too immersion-breaking to consider.  I would have giggled through the discussion of bearing an heir, had I put him on the throne.  Also, when Eamon and Anora both comment on your relationship in connection with the possibility of Alistair marrying Anora, it definitely feels different.

As a personality, he wasn't a very good, dutiful noble son., but he was basically a nice person. He totally identified with Alistair's not wanting to be King.

I had a mage that was neither good nor evil but catered to the mantra enlightened self interest. She was Good unless there was an option that was evil that would give her access to more power. She also defiled the ashes in a moment of rage against the chantry She was so ticked off at the dwarves for their games she supported Harrowmont right up until she chose the king when she picked Bhelen. In my mind as the entire assembly was ready to here her name Harrowmont the king she gave them all the finger told them to f off and give her the army she needed and named Bhelan king. She romanced Ali, Leiliana and Zev because she wanted control over them but she never cared for any of them. She was immensely gratified when Alistair killed the AD for her because she was never going to do it.

Even my old-looking male Warden who keeps complimenting Wynn on her chipper young looks and asks for extra-long lessons?

I mean, how unconventional is that? An old and ugly looking Warden. Pitty I lost the file...

Yes, well, Zev would do a tree if it looked to have a hole between two legs.

Wait... has anyone done Zev/Lady of the Forest yet? If not, I demand it be done. Rule 34 and all that.

Both my dwarf nobles hated the surface. One did the US (she was planning to go back and join the Legion of the Dead before she found out about the whole archdemon thing, so she thought nothing of doing it) and my current one (the one in my icon!) is planning to return to Orzammar so she can keep an eye on her brother. Both have had rebound flings with Zevran (dammit, Gorim, way to run out and get married even though you were pretty sure I wasn't dead, you jerk!), but never let it get Serious.

You can bet that since Gorim can go back to Orzammar too, my current DN will forgive his ridiculous mistake and take right back up with him again. <3

I had a human noble who is even more scheming than Rendon Howe. I he let redcliff to be destroyed to weaken Eamon, sought to become the king by marrying Anora and had Alistair executed.

My HNF followed a similar attitude in that all she wanted to do was run from the life of the nobility and join the army.  She too had no interest in the lives of the nobility and pretty much felt that all the did was gripe about things that had little value.

As for her morals, she was the more "wild" type in that she is more intersted in having fun and will use whatever sources she has to manipulate the situation to her favor.  However, when the attack occured, she pretty much went cold as her "fun-loving" personality died and was replaced with a desire for revenge above all.

Her relationships with most of the others, including Alistair were filled with conflict as she became so bitter that in most cases, she would not even listen to reason and chose violence rather than tact to solve problems.

Oh, and here is a photo of my human:  (I try to RP that she got the tattoo after the fall of her family.)

My Elven Mage Warden sided with Kolgrim and spared the Dragon Andraste. Mainly, doing anything that keeps the Chantry from growing in power is a good thing. Why destroy a religion that accepts mages and magic, and elevates you to the status of Knight Champion, while the mainstream religion destroyed the Dales and oppresses mages under the boot of the templars?

In the playthrough that I'm doing right now, I'm probably not going to go along with the Cult of Andraste, since they're kinda lunatics (which is what I usually do), but I'm also planning on sparing the high dragon, since they're basically an endangered species and this is the first dragon that's appeared in a long time. It's one of the reasons why the character's also going through with the dark ritual and saving the old god: to preserve what magic is left in the world (also because he's romancing Morrigan, but that's another matter entirely).

I have a HN Rogue that began as a rather sterling personality, but the Joining altered his personality a little. He is becoming indiscreet in his lust for the ladies, and is currently romancing both Morrigan and Lil, and will accept other flirtations, too. I have not decided yet what pasths he will choose, other than he is my run at a Bard.

My evil Mage Warden plays very nice with others, and rarely chooses the obvious evil "Mhuhahah" dialogue selections. He simply craves to be powerful, and manipulates events to gain power for himself while still maintaining a facade of a noble heart (ie; Wynne thinks highly of him).

My initial DC Rogue accepted the Chantry as the Ashes were proven to be authentic, placed harrowmont on the throne, lost both sis and Leske as friends, used a longbow as well as many Dalish, carried Starfang and shield into melee, wore Warden Commander massive plate armor, and only used one spec: Duelist, as he was not drawn to any of the others. This was my first Warden, and he took the US ending.

I have always tried to be unique in something in the design, even if it is a typical build.
