I found the lyrium well.  The first time I hit the switch, the harvester formed itself and things turned blue (this was a cinematic though, as soon as I was back in control, the Harvester was nowhere to be seen).  I was able to open a couple of chests, find a note, and get my fourth party member.  However, after that, this keeps happening:

- things turn back to normal.
- a short time after, things turn to red. 
- Jerrik keeps saying things about "its skin is hardening" or "Magic doesn't work, try melee", etc.  I have no idea what he is talking about and apart from a few random encounters, I can't seem to interact with anything.
- I can't get the mist to turn blue anymore.

What am I missing?

At the very least, can someone tell me what is supposed to happen when you get to that first lyrium well room (the one with the single switch and the one where the harvester forms up and gets you access to Brogan)?
