i think they should have let us pick up duncans armor at some point in the game. most beautiful armor in the game. even more beautiful then the knight commanders plate.

I'm sure if you named Alistair king he commissioned for a giant statue of Duncan to be built in a can't-miss spot in Denerim...

Actually, Alistair plans to put up a monument for Duncan in Highever, Duncan's hometown.

Once Wardens begin to hear their Calling, they know they're down to a matter of a few months at most. I imagine that Duncan would have headed to the Deep Roads before the Blight could actually be ended, considering that elapsed time in DA:O is supposed to be in the neighborhood of two years.

Riordan says that the most senior Wardens decide who will take the final blow against the Archdemon and volunteers to do it himself because "...the Taint will not spare me much longer." I'd say he's hearing his Calling also or is very near to it.

Can I ask something about Duncan?

All the people who seem to like him so much/miss him, etc - did you all read the books?

Because, really, he has such a limited role in the game, I just don't see all this reverance for him coming just from that . . .

Pretty much everything he does in The Calling is made of win. Posted Image

Yes, he is a bit limited in the game. I just liked his character before I read the books because I suppose I thought he'd be around longer.
but The Calling makes him quite multi-dimensional.. not to mention all the more lovable!

Honestly, I found him to be a bit of a dick in The Calling. (Don't hate me!) He's pretty badass, yes. But still a dick. I had a hard time seeing how he went from that to the Duncan we know from the game. (Ser Jory stabbing aside).

Twenty years is a pretty long time.

I didn't think he was a dick in the Calling, I thought he was more just.. young and inexperienced. He was whiny and stuff, but also good-natured. Now, when we see him all grown up, there are parts of his good nature that we still see but he had definitely had a long time to do some growing up. at the end of the Calling he was given responsibilities that would cause anyone to man up a bit. He went from a street rat to 2nd in Command...

that's my take on it, anyway.

I love Duncan in the mage origin. If your really nice to him and get certian dialogue from him he's just awesome. My character likes how he sees mages and his view on how the chantry is wrong about what they are doing with mages. Sure he wants to use mages as a weapon but my character thinks thats a better existance then staying locked up in a cage.I really feel as though Duncan is my friend in this playthrough ^^ And it makes his death so,SO much sadder T___T

Yes, for a mage, Duncan is the ultimate get out of jail free card. For a human noble...he's a manipulative bastard.

Regarding Duncan in the Calling, I didn't find him whiny - I found him cocky. He's also a cold-blooded killer - something Genevieve took full advantage of when she told him to "keep an eye" on Maric. That much is pretty evident by the way he guts Ser Jory. He has good in him, but he is, well, a grey character.

Yeah, a prequel or at least some DLC.

I was just reading a thread about "WHYWHY" did Duncan die and I think that it's important that such a *good* character DID die so that we get the weight of this universe, but still... he was super cool.
Also I'd like to see more of the transformation between the Calling!Duncan and Origins!Duncan. He was so fiery in the Calling and then so chill in Origins. tired, maybe?

As I recall, Alistair states that Duncan was starting to have the dreams again.  The dreams that signal that the taint is catching up with you and you need to go to the Deep Roads. Perhaps Duncan was both physically and emotionally tired.

In his shoes, I'd have been relieved to die in battle. Better that than going into the Deep Roads. *shudder* The idea of dying down there is horrible. My non-dwarvern wardens will be looking for other ways to die when their times come, that's for certain.

I think people give Duncan a bad wrap for the Ser Jory thing. Jory is an sympathetic character because of his new family but truth is, he was trying to take the cowardly way out (I mean he even pulled his sword out?). He might have survived the Joining, anyway. But Duncan did what he had to... No one can LEAVE the Joining, so, what was he supposed to do? I'm sure he's seen it happen a few times in his career.

But I do agree with you, I think that because of his origins, killing isn't such a HUGE thing to Duncan (he basically grew up with death as Gaider narrates), but I don't think that after murdering Guy he takes killing quite so lightly. Maybe he sees it as a necessary evil? I'm reading into it now, obviously, but I just don't think he kills for the fun or something or even "in cold blood"-- even when he was fighting Guy, he was really defending himself (and being selfish too but wasn't he starving?) not just randomly killing him for the sport.

gah way too interesting, damn vague character developments!!!!!

I wasn't really saying that Duncan enjoyed killing - more that he was capable of being quite ruthless, when necessary. Jory was a bit of an idiot. He didn't deserve to die but he did bring it on himself.

In the early days of playing Dragon Age: O, the Deep Roads gave me a severe case of claustrophobia.....That was the scariest, meanest place to go, and I would hate to have to end my life down there fighting off a bunch of darkspawn...I can't think of anything more lonely or terrifying.  If I were Duncan, I would have been glad of the relatively quick end of a battle death, surrounded by my already perished comrades in arms.

I agree with you... Plus even though it's honorable to go out killing darkspawn, I'd much rather be doing it in a battle while I'm defending my people than in the Deep Roads where there is nothing but rot.

and CarlJones-- ah yeaah I understand you. And I definitely agree
