Okay. I'm not entirely sure if this is the right thread or not, but it was the best I could find. >.>
Anyways! So I decided to do a replay of ME2 on Hardcore (not even Insanity! D: ) except now I've found myself stuck on the final battle on Horizon, right before Shepard reunites with Ashley/Kaiden. It's really frustrating, 'cause I'd like to get on with the story! :T I was hoping anyone could give me some tips/strategies?
Like I said, this is a REPLAY, so I've beaten this before (I think it was either Normal or Vet, I can't remember), but even then it was tough, and I didn't have any real strategy-- I just kinda ran around and prayed the Husks didn't get too close. And the difficulty I played on before, they didn't have armor, so it was easy for me to just Throw them if they did. I do NOT want to change the difficulty setting!
Soo.. Yeah. Strategy, Ideal Companions, stuff like that would be nice.
I play a Sentinel :]

Yes I can help I beat it on insanity. A good strategy is to first off move as far from the scions as possible. Take out all the husks first, then focus on the scions. When you are fighting the husks and the Scions move too close, sprint around them to the other side of the map. If you take damage, use your tech armor to bolster yourself. Once all the husks are dead, take down the Scions. Here's a snip from the guide I'm making for beating the game on insanity. I don't want to have to rewrite it here so here it is:

"This part, which I call the GARDIAN area, is comprised of three stages, the first of which is the toughest. The first wave consists of a huge amount of husks and two Scions. Your teammates are going to die here. Just accept it. Now, there is one foolproof way to attack this stage. First things first, take out all the husks first, before you even touch a Scion. The strategy here is to first move as far to one side of the area as possible. Pop husks as they charge towards you (don’t forget incinerate and the sniper), and hold your ground for now. When you think the Scions have waddled close enough to you to actually harm you, quickly cloak, and sprint to the other side of the map. Rinse and repeat until all the husks are dead, and then, take down the Scions. By the way, it only takes three shots from a Scion to kill you. One to take down your shields and two for your health bar, and they stop regeneration, so be really careful. I honestly don’t know how this part would be possible if you aren’t an infiltrator, since the tactical cloak was so incredibly useful here. Although I suppose if you are a vanguard you can use the charge to quickly traverse to another side of the map by attacking a husk far away from you. Anyway, once the Scions are down I believe you can save. Do so if you can. Then stick both your teammates in the little platform with stairs next to the doors you came in through (actually do this after you activate the transmitter). Collect ammo, then activate the thing. Then sprint back to where you will be sending your teammates. "

Anyway, squad members... Miranda is essential, then either Garrus or Jack. Mordin could work as well but Garrus is a little tougher and Jack's shockwave will blow a ton of husks out of the way if they lost their armor. Each has their highs and lows. Though they are not useful for this part specifically since your teammates are going to die here. Give it a shot, and post again if you keep having trouble, I'll try to help.

Miranda and Loyal Zaeed/Incineration Blast Mordin work well. Keep Scions in middle and keep moving during that part. However, if you can strip armor off husks quickly, you can use Jack's shockwave after armor is gone to take out a group. The Carnifex/Predator is your best friend in anti-armor. Watch where Collectors land and always have them in front of you. Prioritize Collector Assassins, then Normal Collectors, then Harbinger if he's not too close. If he is, take him out, as medi-gel is rare. Don't be afraid to use heavy weapons. You get one Power Cell in that area. Arc Projector is recommended b/c of easy anti-barrier and husk slower. Avalanche is also good for AOE defense stripping and unprotected enemy freezing. The praetorian is easy if you know how to circle around a piece of tall cover.

That is one of my most hated areas in the whole game, simply because of the lack of good firing positions. Usually, however, I take cover on the small truck near the gate leading to the area. From there, I arm myself with the Collector Particle Beam and start taking down baddies. Husks will have no problem climbing the car and attacking you where you stand, so try not to make them get too close. Also, squadmates WILL die here; there just aren't good positions for them, and they're too weak against these kinds of enemy waves if you don't use them well. I've never played on Hardcore, but I imagine this strategy might just work. Image IPBImage IPB

If you don't mind being a dirty cheating cheater who cheats, you can attack the Scions before entering the area and they won't react.

I say take the scions out first only attack the husks if they are a couple feet  away

To take out the scions use a combination of warp incenirate reave if a soldier spam adrenaline rush with the carnifex and sniper go for headshots  hit the scions with bug bites and keep retreating to different cover to avoid shockwaved and overwhelmed by husks

if a biotic carry flamethrower and use singularity as much as possible when their is one scion left singularity will prevent it from attacking and you can burn the scions armor in less then 10 seconds.

I wouldn't  recommend a similar tactic with a combat drone and flamethrower because the scions uses AOE shockwave on drone and you can get caught in the blast

After you dealt with the scions then just mop up the husks your squadmates should still be alive unless they stupidly ran right into the scions.

I messed up a lot on this mission becsuse I tried to hold a position and take out as many husks as fast as possible which meant more husk kept spawning easily overwhelming me and my crew  also allowing scions to close in which means you might as well reload

I Hope this helps:D

But if your really desperate charge up the Cain and instant kill the scions:)

Or you can CAIN them - one shot and the battle is won, pretty much cheating, but easy :D

If you have Assault Armor, just keep spamming it, you can't die (unless you try real hard).

I found the best tactic here to be to go to the left and up the little ramp. There is cover there you can use for almost all of the fight. You will need to keep the husks away, but it trivializes the part with the collectors and Harbinger.

For the Preatorian, kite it around the tower area and make sure you are always near cover. Move BEFORE it gets close, not after. This requires a bit of patience but isn't too difficult.

I prefer Power Armor myself, for the improved shields and biotic spammage.

As a soldier player, my advice here's limited. Just remember that concussive shot is good against barriers. If that's what your squadmates have, it can be useful.

Tech armor can be evolved to either Power or Assault armor. When your assault Armor goes down, you send out damaging shockwave and get 50% of the shields back. That makes you invincible as long as you kill fast enough.

If we're thinking about the same area (two ramps leading up to it?), that's where Husks spawn during one of the waves.  So it's kind of risky to linger there.

I like to chill in the back of that truck on the left and then abandon ship when the husks overwhelm it.  You can sprint to the opposite corner (the area is shaped more or less like a square) and take out the next few waves from there.

I usually concentrate on the Husks. I like to bring Grunt [or Jacob] with Squad Incindiary Ammo. You can bring Miranda or someone that can strip armor fairly effectively. Warps, Warp Explosions, Concussive Blast, etc. from your teammates can help a lot.

As for the Scions if you can get most of the husks out of the way you can just run around and nickle & dime them to death.

Take Grunt for inferno or squad flame ammo, then add miranda for extra buff and warp. You can also take Mordin for incinerate blast to do area stripping of armor off of husks. Start the area in the little ramp to take out the Scions, and first wave of husk/collectors. Once you wipe out the first wave, then move to the far end away from the door, and let the collectors drop into the door area and then deal with them. IF you happen to still be at far end the cut-scene will warp you to the door end to deal with the Big slow bug that is a pain only if you don't know how to run around in circles playing ring around the Rosie with him and the computer tower in the center.

With a Sentinel it would be best to have assault armor for this area, the need of extra bonus to damage is not anywhere near the need for the damage pulse and rebound of shields. Don't forget to use the heavy pistol as an easy strip of armor then follow up with a throw to kill, so you don't have to waste the extra ammo to kill them. IF you are shooting to kill aim low at the groin area to basically shatter the legs for quicker kills, especially if you happen to have shotguns.

I love the sentinel. Anyway, the scion battle is pretty easy with a sentinel even on insanity.

1. Make sure you have assault armor and all the upgrades.
2. Make sure you have reave. Area reave is nice if you're high enough level
3. Make sure you have Jacob with you for his incendiary
4. A predator pistol (not the cannon)
5. Mordin with his area incinerate (make sure you do his research upgrade) is a great secondary quadmate for this mission, though miranda with her warp is good too (against collectors)

Anyway, as soon as you go in, you'll notice a flatbed truck to your left. Put your squadmates there. They should live and you'll have acess to their powers.

Focus on the husks. Keep spamming reave on armored husks. When you assault armor blows, it will kill all the unarmored husks. If your armor isn't ready to explode, use a throw to kill an unarmored one. Run around, keeping yourself away from the Scions until the husks are all dead.

Then pull out your predator. Take cover somewhere and make sure you have your incendiary on. Shoot the husks on the blue fleshy part on it's back. The predator should take it down pretty quickly.

Oh, wow! A lot of answers. Yeah, I currently have Miranda and Jack with me, then another save with Zaeed and Mordin. xD;

I'll try what you guys suggested and get back to you! Thanks a bunch!

Oh, and one other question. Do you know what kind of cover stops Harbinger's throw-back attack? The one with the black energy in it? I can't seem to figure it out-- like, some cover (like tires) seem to negate it, but others don't. :T

No cover will protect you. However when you are crouching, and see harbringer shoot his singularity move back in forth while crouching. That will throw off his sigularity and make it miss you. Try the mission again without jack. It's doable, but a lot harder. Jacob or mordin are better choices.

Thick cover can block it.  Cover that's too thick to vault over can sometimes do the trick.

You can dodge Harby's singularity too.

Another thing about the scions; they can't and won't attack you if they can's see you. You can run between the truck in one corner to the other (behind them you're safe from scions as long as they're not too close). Kill the husks and finish the scions last.

Now there's something I can help with -- defeating the "beehive" attack.

What kind of cover? Wide cover. Move one direction. The "beehive" will veer towards you. Then go back the other direction when the beehive is closer. It can't change directions fast enough to hit you and will fly right over you.

There's a wide "porch" with cover on it on the left side of that level (left if you're facing toward the central tower right as you open the doors and enter this level.) You can move back and forth easily there, but beware the husks that will pop up in that area at some point.

Alternately, you can stand behind tall cover and fire around the corner at Harby. When a beehive's coming, just step back from the cover and let it hit. As long as you're not touching the wall, the beehive won't hurt you.

That's the thing though. I think either only one wave of husks spawns there at the very beginning, or they stop spawning there when you stand there. I don't really know. I do know I was standing there most of the time and had very little trouble. I remember a couple of husks making it up to me, but nothing serious. It's excellent cover where you can see everything and there's plenty of room to move also.

The most trouble I had in this fight was because I seriously underestimated the Praetorian. I had only played on normal before and didn't really expect it to kill me in 2 seconds. Once I had proper respect for that, I did the whole kiting around the center thing and that worked fine.

If you have it, the Cain will take care of the Scions in a hurry and leave you free to mop up the Husks afterwards. Otherwise, I prefer to tak care of the Husks first to avoid getting swarmed and bodyblocked. As you've probably noticed, the Husks tend to charge in a straight line at you, so just strafe out of the way and let them run past. With a little practice, you can herd them around like a Spanish matador without any risk whatsoever. Cleaning them up with a shotgun works best, but if you don't have one, then a combination of gunfire and powers works as well. Remember to keep on the move to avoid the Scions' Shockwave blasts; I usually just move in a big circle around the whole courtyard, keeping the Scions in the center.

For the second wave with the Collectors and Husks, take note of the spawn points of the Collectors. If you have a Sniper Rifle, you might be able to kill a few of them as they land and eliminate them quickly. Otherwise, if you have a different Heavy Weapon than the Cain, this is the place to use it. The Collector Particle Beam is particularly handy for this fight. Watch out for Harbinger; his attacks are especially lethal on higher difficulty settings, so it's important to either keep him at a BIG distance, or kill him quickly. Again, watch out for the occasional Husk that tries to sneak in too.

The Praetorian is probably the easiest of the three fights. You can just flag your teammates at safe locations and then just move from cover to cover; the Praetorian will continue to chase after you while your teammates take it down.
