Really? I remember a load of complaints.

I'm fairly active on the steam forums and halflife2.net and it certantly wasn't the case there.
For Dragon Age 2, even the press have been attacking it with foul words of destroy, not just the fanbase.

I find folowing a character that I play through multiple adventures fun. Is that some crazy idea or something?

They took a different direction and want to focus on the world more than my character. I understand,  I just don't feel as connected to a game world as I do my character. I don't read books or play games for the sole reason they're set in the Forgotten Realms, Middle Earth, etc.

Continuing the Warden's tale doens't force anything on you if you killed your character with the ultimate sacrifice. That character's story is literally over. That doesn't mean everyone else's choice is invalid because of yours.

I don't get it either. My Warden(s) had a nice finish at the end of Origins and I welcome being able to play a new character. From the initial response here, you would think no series has ever done this before. I mean in Fallout, Fable (lol), etc. you switch characters and there was no outrage over it.

Why continue a story if a lot of people's story wouldn't make sense because of it?

Because you're not locked into only one character created per copy of the game. They even give you the option of an Orlesian Warden for Awakening.

My warden is dead. He hated Morrigan so deeply that he went to his death just to spite her and prevent a god-child from being born to such a terrible and selfish woman.

Yes, let us demonize the game we want to play!

So I guess you didn't play Awakening with your Warden? Bioware screwed the ultimate sacrifice ending already with their expansion, so they can as well go on.

I do have Awakening, although I recreated an Orlesian.

This here.
Although I "revived" my ultimate sacrifice Warden for the first time through Awakening, when I'm importing into DA2 I'm going to use my completed Origins file where my Warden sacrificed and not that Awakening one. However, once I completed that expansion, it never felt like Awakening was meant for my Warden, it felt like it was meant for the Orlesian anyway, so I don't think it's a big loss.

I totally see dheers point here. It seems even contradictory, for if the plan all along was to make just a trilogy, it makes more sense to stick to a single storyline (not necessarily a single character) with a direct progression, like The Hobbit-Lord of the Rings story. Why? Because that enables you to develope the characters and dig deep into the story, rahter than just touch the surface. They have built a huge world with different cultrures and history, most of which we apparently wont see, unless they secretly think of keep going up to Dragon Age 10... but again, I doubt any franchise can have so many different stories without compromising quality... Some time along the way it will began to repeat itself.

There's only so much one character can do before it gets old.

You're correct. However, I don't think the Warden's story has reached that point yet.

I don't believe seeing mention of this anywhere. I just thought this was a game series, Bioware's Final Fantasy if you wish.

Yes, like Batman.

Sometimes Batman's Story does get old. Being told over and over again. Different people offing his parents in each cartoon, villains having different reasons for doing what they did, etc.

@dheer - There aren't many games that allow you to keep a character from one version to the next. The only games that come to my mind are Bioware's games, that's about it.

I'm glad that the Warden will make some appearance in the newest game to make people happy. I'd probably just walk around her and continue on with life.

They're not making a trilogy. The focus is on the setting not your character.

I just don't find an area as appealing as my character. Stories where a city or place is the "main character" are usually not that great. There are exceptions, like any category though.

Leaves me wondering how it will work, though. With the entire no-voice acting and different appearances with the new head morph / art system.

Sometimes... in a 60-70 year time span, with the latest movie breaking box office records and being one of the most critically acclaimed comic book adaptations in history.

Whats the point in making a thread like this? Like really, this is a subject thats just asking people to lash out at one another because one person says its stupid that this continues, and another says its stupid that it doesnt continue, etc etc. Seriously people, give it a rest, if bioware wants to continue the wardens story they will, and your either gonna like it or not. If they dont continue it, people are also gonna like it or they wont like it. Either way, all I can really say is suck it up and move on. Some people like change and others dont. Why try to antagonize those people (other than the fact that you have nothing better to do then wait for DA2, in which case you need a life).

We've got a new game that will come out soon, why not focus on that instead of asking people why they want this and that to continue? It just seems pointless sparking an arguement like this

I'm not a Batman lover by any means; however, I'd like to see someone else in the DC Universe do something noteworthy. Everything is focused on Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Occasionally they decide they don't want to do things alone and the Justice League comes strolling in like a PUG in an MMO.

Superhero comics are just a big ol' clusterf--k. It makes it so intimidating for new people to jump in.

So you only made 1 playthrough? You were never curious how other origins and choices played out?

Well put Drizzt. Digging into the setting through a continuing tale is more engaging, I believe.

Having to play a new character every time just gives us a brief glimpse of the world every few years. My guess is It'll feel disconnected from game to game, will get stale and probably stall out after a while if they don't change course in subsequent installments.
