So here's my predicament.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 x64 and a desktop running Win XP SP3. Baldur's Gate 2 and Throne of Bhaal are installed on both, the Throne of Bhaal latest patch is on both, (no no-cd cracks or anything, the files are all absolutely identical) and they both run fantastic.
Me and a friend had a great time making custom portraits and making all of our characters together. We used the overpowered trick by making them in Bhaal and importing them back to Shadows and starting a new game there, with my friend hosting on the Win XP machine. We were at the Djinni at the very beginning of the game when I brought my TV (I had my laptop hooked up to it) forward so he could see it and accidentally knocked the router power cable out.
Obviously the game booted me out, and since then we can no longer play together. I can see his game, I can technically "join" it, but it tells me the game is in progress and it's "waiting until the server can admit new players." After a minute or so of this I'm kicked from the game. The same thing happens when he joins my game.
This is after both of us uninstalling and reinstalling, and rebooting our systems, having done both of these multiple times. This includes getting rid of the characters we've made and making sure everything is deleted after the uninstall.
We are on the same network (so no hamachi or anything like that), we can play all the other games we could play before together (old ones too like Descent 2, and Heretic 2.)
I am absolutely confused about what to try next. I have tried searching google up and down for this and on the old forum there was a person with the same problem, but there was no response. Please help!
Cannot properly join multiplayer game.

bump... this doesn't seem to get any responses, someone MUST have come across this error before.

Give up.
Problems with BG multiplayer are just beyond human understanding.

Well, I too had issues with joining a friend to play Baldur's Gate. We were both on laptops connected to the internet through wireless.
We installed the games side by side and the mods. But we couldn't connect through the Baldur's Gate TCP/IP connection. So we tried Hamatchi, we could connect but couldn't ping (another long long story). So after an entire evening to fixing both of our firewalls, I gave up because we still couldn't ping one another, so naturally I thought we wouldn't be able to play together. But I started up a new game anyway, and we could. So maybe try using Hamatchi from now on. I know if two people are using two different systems, only one can host. But I forget which one. May be XP ... or not. It's online somewhere.

Why even bother telling me to give up? That's just trolling.
Thanks jaxsbudgie, I'll give that a try, beats installing winXP on my other machine which I think I'll still do.
Any other suggestions?

No worries. I just did a quick google, and if one machine is running Vista and the other XP, then the Vista machine has to host, and the XP machine has to join. I understand you're using Windows 7 not Vista, but I think the same rules probably apply.
I can't think of any other suggestions, maybe try allowing Baldur's Gate through your firewall again? Or resetting your allowed programs list in your firewall?
Here's the link to the Hamachi wiki.
