Hey guys. I have a quick question I'm hoping I can get some help with!

Anyway, I have Both DA:O and DA:A for my PS3. Well now that I have my new computer ( so used to hand me down PCs,  but not anymore!!!) I've been looking to get DA:O and DA:A for my PC. I can DL the Deluxe version of DA:O and get WK and Shale DLC with it, while also DLing the digital version of DA:A.

But my question is this: Would I be able to register my "game code" on this site, since I wouldn't  have the CD copy of the game?

And when I say game code, I mean whatever you put into your Bioware account to show what games you have and what system they are on. Registration I guess.

Agian, any help is apprecited. Also a side question. What are some of the "differences" with the PC version VS the Console version?

Thanks ahead of time!

-Rob

You should be able to register here. I have purchased DA:O and Awakening thru Steam and I have register both game on my Social Bioware account. Along with my Steam purchase, I received CD Keys for these registration along with codes for the promo DLCs included in the offer.

Concerning the difference between the PS3 and the PC versions, look here:

Also, I don't know if this matters but I have steam on my System already ( HL2 TF2 etc) would just getting the game off of steam be better than getting it from the EA store?

EDIT: it's 30 bucks on Ea store VS 40 on Steam

What version of Windows are you running?  If it's Win 7, 64 bit, you're going to have major problems installing Dragon Age from the EA store.  And by major, I mean, you won't be able to.  The EA store and the download manager page won't tell you that, either.  I'd be hesitant to try with Win 7 32 bit either, honestly.

So my best bet would be DLing it off of steam then VS EA?

yes I have win 7 64bit. If specs of my PC matter ( IE the ram, vid card, etc) I can list those.

So if steam is the right way to go, I'll DL the Deluxe DA:O ( comes with WK and Shale too) and Awakening.

No, the specs don't matter at all, TBH, just whether you're running a 32 bit version or 64 bit. For some reason, the EA download manager program itself is written badly, and looks for a version of .NET 2.0 SP2. Windows 7 comes with .NET 3.5 installed by default, which is backwards compatible with .NET 2.0 SP2, but the installer isn't capable of reading the relevant registry entries on a 64 bit OS. Unfortunately, by faulty design on Microsoft's part, and also by shoddy coding on EA's part to not override the problem, the game shows the prerequisites missing, tries to install .NET 2.0 SP2, which doesn't run on 64 bit systems, and you end up with a failed installation, and an error message.

And, unfortunately, there's no way to get around it, short of EA fixing their download manager.

Sorry, I was trying to keep it as jargon free as possible   When I was researching the issue and ended up on some programming page about it, I was scratching my head a lot as I tried to translate it from programmese into sysadmintalk just so I could understand it myself.  It's pretty darn esoteric.  Anyway, have fun with the game-- I know Steam's download actually works.  I've sunk far too many of my own hours into it:happy:

Well you've been a big help so agian thank you, but I have just one more question.....

If I have DA:O and DA:A digitally Dl'ed on my system, would that mean any expacs ( lets say Da2 for example) would need to be digital dl'ed as well and wouldnt work if I bought the disc instead and tried to "add" it to my other games.

I ask because when I was on steam looking at DA:A it said that it requires " The Steam version of DA:O as a requirement" I didn't know if they meant I could only add on Digital versions of the game or if it meant that because DA:A is an expac it requires the original game.

Awakening isn't a standalone expansion, and it relies on all the DA:O files, so it pretty much has to be in the same directory, and likely use the same version of DRM. DA2 seems to be a complete mystery so far, especially on the PC end. So far as I've read about it, there doesn't seem to be much information about compatibility, how your Wardens will be imported, and whatnot. I don't think they've even released system specs for the PC version yet.
