Before the Accurracy Upgrade [IMHO] it's hard to use effectively at longer ranges. IMHO you're better off using a lot of your other weapons and go to Revvy once the enemies get close enough.
I would personally go so far as to argue that the Rev before the Accuracy Upgrade is virtually useless. It's a shotgun that takes up an Assault Rifle slot.
After the Accuracy... it's still inaccurate, but not so much that it becomes useless at mid-range (even outside of AR). It's still flexible enough to be legitimately thought of as an Assault Rifle, and it's definitiely the Rifle that grants the greatest rewards for playing agressively.
It's major strength is still it's ammo supply, though. Ordinarily a weapon with the combo of rate of fire and per-shot damage would be godly, but it's bad accuracy essentially means it ends up with the kind of overall performance of an Avenger at longer ranges.
I'm still undecided whether to take it on my modded Adept. I've used it enough now to know how to effectively employ it at mid-range and I have my trusty locust for longer range full-auto, but the Mattock just seems to have the edge in every situation barring ammo.

The Revenant is, at least after the Accuracy Upgrade, extremely accurate at midrange. No kidding, all you have to do is burst-fire tapping, like when you do f you want the Shuriken to act like a fully automatic weapon. The muzzle climbs sets in after you fired constantly for a moment, tapping the fire-button only slightly reduces the overall rate of fire, but makes you almost pinpoint accurate. I tried that out myself and could hot enemies with almost no bullet missing its target at ranges where I normally would be more praying than spraying.
Revenant plus burst-tapping = insane!
But my next playthrough on a Soldier will be Mattock/Widow/Geth Plasma Shotgun/Phalanx, ... so much accurate firepower *drool*

I agree that burst-firing the Revenant is the best use of the weapon - I was testing it out on Overlord and, at mid range, it was comparable to the Mattock once the art of 'bursting' was mastered.
But I don't think I'd ever describe the Rev as 'extremely accurate' at any range. Using the Rev is a constant balance between accuracy and rate of fire - once you nail that balance it becomes an incredibly potent weapon, but getting that balance, particularly outside of AR, is the real challenge.
Against bosses the Rev really pulls ahead - things like Praetorians are too large for the lack of accuracy to matter and they end up taking the full force of full-auto fire.

If you are a soldier, just use Adrenaline Rush and there is no recoil whatsoever.
If you are not a soldier, you have modded the game to give yourself a soldier-specific weapon without the soldier-specific class power to use it properly

I never said "at any ranges" only midrange. You must have seen that in some others post.
And yeah, ... nothing, like popping Preatorian with Inferno Ammo and full automatic meltdown, muehehe!

At mid range you need to pulse the trigger (2 to 3 shots before stopping) outside of adrenaline rush unless it's a bigger target but yes, you pretty much just hold the trigger at closer ranges.termokanden wrote...
Allow me to repeat myself. You do not have to tap the trigger. If you use this gun within its recommended range (low to mid), you can hold down the trigger. Just try to learn how to adjust for recoil.

If you are not a soldier, you have modded the game to give yourself a soldier-specific weapon without the soldier-specific class power to use it properly
I enjoyed the Mattock/Widow combo much more than the Vindicator/Widow combo. It has the biggest burst DPS potential compared to the Revenant/Viper but still loses out in sustained DPS compared to it though it is not as bad of a gap compared to the Revenant/Viper.

I didn't say that you did. My point was that I wouldn't claim it was extremely accurate at any kind of range, including short, let alone medium, which you did claim.

I'm not sure you necessarily need AR to 'use it properly'. All AR does is allow you to use a machine gun as an assault rifle
