Basically you were locked into a gear set up for each "mission" , and upgrading was only done through an interface at your base. There were only 20ish or so actual choices, none of which really made any noticable difference and were completely unnecessary for beating the game.
I think that system could work with a lot of refinment, (at least for ME3) but it was waaaaay too shallow. It felt half implemented and tacked on.

Basically you get several categories of weapons to choose from (shotguns, pistols, assault rifles, heavy weapons) and can only carry one of each. You can't change them in the middle of a mission; you have to wait until there's a special 'Weapons Loadout' station somewhere if you want to change whatever weapon type you currently happen to be carrying (change from a specific type of pistol to a differnt pistol, for example).
You also have to find these weapon upgrades in special spots.

Please refer people asking such questions back to this thread, for I will explain it another time, in hopefully not so jaded terms.
Ok, so your set armor was called N7, and as you ventured from planet to planet you could purchase enhanced items that would slightly alter the appearance and add beneficial affects.
The beneficial effects were (for example) %5 to shields / %5 more heavy weapon ammo / 10% Storm Speed (running) and so on
None of which made 1 ounce of difference, but only (as stated) added slight variations in look
There was also pre-order and dlc armor, of which 99% were full suits, which could not be mixed with other accessories and as well added little to no advatages.
Plus, there was only 1 place you could customize your armor, and that was a 2 minute elevator ride to Shepards' cabin (ride=load time)
Hope this helps

I want to know if we'll still have a traditional RPG inventory like we had in Origins?

So basically, the main complaint is that you could only change equipment in the equivalent of the party camp, which leads to tedious loading times or ignoring the feature altogether, not unlike runecrafting in Awakening for those who played it.
From the screenshots, it looks like Hawke has a unique armor design. This may only be a marketting thing (like his face, which we know we can customize) or it could be the only thing he can carry (probably one for each class and gender combination) with custom parts ala Mass Effect. I wouldn't necessarily mind that, if it's well done and if we can swap gear on the spot.

Well yes, those were problems, but not the glaring issue.
The equipment had negligible effect, well at least the armor. Other than cosmetic, there wasn't really armor, or atleast in a typical RPG sense. That, and most of the armor wasn't interchangeble.
Plus, there was no looting of slain enemies, other than thermo clips (ammo).

You were also extremely limited in your options. Having basically two types of gun per class for a lot of the game made it rather bland.

While your sarcasm is noted - I think its a valid question given the transition from ME - ME2 and the early revealed changes from DAO - DA2.

If the were going to go all-out shooter, they could have at least made weapons feel different as opposed to just upgraded versions of each other. Seriously, if you're going to have two type of shotgun then make sure one is insta-kill at point-blank range, and the other launches explosives.
Yeah, I could NEVER tell any difference in 'impact' with one shotgun to the other. That and you choices of sniper rifles was one that shot bbs at a high rate and one that shot deer slugs, but at a mind numbingly slow rate, both of which equaled the other in damage + rate of fire. I guess the faster firing model penetrated shields better........

The fact that this is a Kordaris thread prevents me from responding seriously. But sure, it is a valid question.

For Dragon Age 2... inventory management, to me at least, is guaranteed to happen. The PC's combat will be almost identical with the exception of a few camera changes, and the highlight of that "tactical" combat system is that you can tailor your style to your items and those of your party. An ME2 style "inventory" would only really work for the twitchier console combat. Not that I'm hoping for it on consoles.

If an RPG like Mass Effect is going to go shooter, then it should go PROPER shooter. Has anybody played Killing Floor? Best gunplay I've ever seen, CoD be damned.

Please don't say that as though it's true. They have never confirmed that, or said anything even like it. They've said that the PC combat will retain the same "feel", and as we learned with ME2, Bioware's interpretation of subjective statements like that is often wildly at odds with every other human's.

That pretty much is an inventory system.
