The name doesn't matter. If the protagonist was named Buttercup he would still own everything.

It's all in the beard. All the greatest heros have beards. Gandalf, Duncan, Dumbledore, Jesus.

Or will the dreaded "Hawke"  choose his combat gear between missions just like in ME2?

Please stop playing dense just so you can justify your eRage.

If I name mine Blossom does that mean the main antagonist will be a talking monkey?

Ah yes, the running and begging for your life mechanic.  I have to agree, that's very fitting for our "dreaded" Hawke, who is a refugee from Lothering and therefore can only ever be a coward.

And how come no one has mentioned how unheroic the name "Hawke" is?  No one with that name could ever be a hero, right?

They should have stuck with what worked, like Aeducan or Cousland. Bonus points for the number of vowels they could stick in order without being abrasive. Something like Cowslane Eh'duncan as the default name. Good name for a fantasy hero.

Also, the game needs to have a particularly atrocious mohawk such that all references to the dreaded Hawke just have to do with Kirkwall's awkward hair style.

We must try this.

Hey, I like this Pack Mule ™ system. I thought I was sufficiently obsessing about my inventory, but boy was I wrong! Posted Image

On a serious note, I do have an idea for a plausible pack mule system for a game, but I happen to think that the execution would be punishing and annoying for players.

In all seriousness, I think a pack mule system of some kind can work in a game. Maybe not this game, but some games.  Like in Morrowind or Oblivion where you could have "companions" with you. I used to dump all kinds of inventory on them while they were around. May have been mods that allowed that, though.

Might have added a quip about Bethany being neccesary as part of the patented How-Bout-Taking-My-Sister-As-A-Brood-Mother-And-Not-Eating-My-Intestines minigame.

That is terrible! But I loled. Posted Image

Bear in mind they still insist that ME2 has an inventory.

@Khavos, true that; though I doubt Mr. Laidlaw would say that if the game will feature an ME2-style "inventory"; the community will raise a ****storm (as we so often do), forgetting that he didn't actually state what kind of inventory it would be.

TL;DR: our collective inability to argue rationally means that he probably wasn't talking PR.

It wouldn't shock me at all if he was in fact PRspeaking.  I suspect there are going to be quite a few surprises where we'll look back and go, "Well, they didn't actually say what we interpreted them to have said."

My money's on the "tactical feel of the PC combat basically staying the same" as being the big one.

I'd like to keep an open mind here; judging the streamlining going on in DA2 on the scale of ME2's streamlining doesn't seem appropriate to me (yet). Still, as there hasn't been anything concrete yet I'm inclined to believe you.

I was never terribly fond of inventory management, so I don't care. Whether it's there or not, it probably won't make one bit of difference whether or not I like or hate the game. If they do make it an ME2 system, which I found waaaaaay better than the ME1 system though not without its flaws, I'd hope they give you way more stuff to get.

Will it be romanceable? Not that I have any interest in donkeys, but you never know.

I found the inventory bag to be a thousand times more interesting as a romance.

One size fits all.

And this.  Believe it or not there are a few people in the sea of trolls that do actually appreciate devs taking the time to answer questions.  That's the principal reason I come to the DA2 forum.  To hear what you guys have to say.

You guys are crazy. I love it. Hell, a good majority of the comments in this thread had me snickering.

Back on topic, I'm glad Mike responded so quick. This would have turned into a 50 page thread of people quoting the original poster saying he had insider information that the inventory had been scrapped for cellophane wrappers or something similar.

Again, he didn't say that DA2 has a DA:O style inventory, just that it has an inventory system.  Bioware also claims that ME2 has an inventory system.  We don't know any more than we did, save that there will, for sure, be weapons.

I for one can't wait to research sword upgrades back at the party camp.

For 1000 element zero lyrium you can make your swords swing faster. But you can only choose one out of your 4 exciting new swords.

I never actually played them but didn't one of the dungeon siege games have a pack mule?

It's a Bioware game, so I know I'll spend the majority of it traveling to four or five different locations to recruit people, but do you think I'll be able to survive the final battle with the ULTIMATE EVIL THREATENING THEDAS if I don't get all of the campfire upgrades?

I have DS2 and I don't think that was in there. I think there was a party chest or something similar. I do know Sacred 2 had a pre-order DLC (that I have) that has a cute little Demon Pack Mule. You can call him at all time and he'll bring your chest to you so you can dump items in it for later.
