I love them all but Alistair is my favourite because he's sweet and funny and for countless other reasons.

Hm... Probably Loghain. After reading the Stolen Throne, Loghain has even more of a reason to be awesome. I absolutely love Loghain and somewhat upset that he dies in most playthroughs. Luckily for me, I met him Awakening. :D

I also adore Shale, Morrigan, and Alistair. I think all of their characters speak for themselves and I don't need to explain why. They're just awesome; and don't forget Dog. I use Leliana sometimes and she's interesting, that's about it. I never cared for Zevran too much; love talking to him, but I don't like him enough to replace my favorites. Wynne is nice, and I usually use her so we don't get screwed without a healer, Sten is really cool, but doesn't quite make my favorites. I always found Oghren hilarious, but I don't think I ever used him. I always get him too late game to fiddle around with my party and tactics. The only character that I like in Awakening is Anders. He's hilarious, witty, good in combat, and makes for one of my favorites in DA2.

Besides the Warden? (Yes I love myself that much)

Number 1 is without question Morrigan, number 2 is Alistair. After that I like Zevran/Sten/Loghain about equally. Then Leliana/Oghren/Dog/Shale. I love all of them though. From Awakening I liked Anders (probably goes in the Zevran/Sten/Loghain category) Nathaniel and Justice. I won't go into details why except briefly for #1.

My first impression on meeting Morrigan was "OK, another skimpily dressed female video game character, /interest (in hope of any character depth anyway)." Over the course of the game, my first impression couldn't have been proved more wrong.

Bann MF Teagan.

He delivers some pretty good lines. "Noboby tells him what to do! NOBODY HAAHAHAHAHAH! MARMALADE!"

But for a character you play as, I would have to say Sten the Sexist. Why isn't morrigan tending to a shop? These are the questions we need to be asking.

Zevran is definitely my favourite companion character. He's wickedly intelligent and witty, fiercely loyal, and hilarious when he's bantering with other characters. And I love the fact that while he's a badass whose pride makes it hard for him to admit vulnerability, he really is a sweetheart once you get to know him. I'm also a sucker for a tragic backstory, and I love him for the way his infectious zest for life allows him to preserve his sense of self in circumstances that might have turned a less strong-willed person into a sociopath. My male Dalish rogue romanced him, and though I love all the romances, Zevran's is still my favourite.

Shianni is probably my favourite non-companion character – she's adorable, playful and feisty, and she has a special place in my heart because she was the very first character I encountered in Dragon Age, and I fell in love with her immediately. The chance to banter with her is one of the many reasons I love playing as a City Elf.

And I completely agree about the awesomeness of Teagan – as someone mentioned in another thread, he tells off Loghain, Anora, and Isolde (and he's not bad looking, either) – what's not to love? ;)

Indeed! Lol. Though in a "proper, civilized" shop it goes without saying she should have to remove her tongue before answer any customer!

! I could have searched my words many days long and never find how to write anything half as close of my own thoughts than what you wrote here! Thanks to you for sparing me the burden...-_-
As for romancing I would actually prefer they had developped something with Sten "sad eyes", but I like very much Lelianna too. (Actually the only thing I don't like about Zevran's romance is his physique... Can't help.)

My point here is of highly discutable usefulness and absolutely off-topic as well, but since I once vomitted Teagan in another thread, I feel like I owe those forums to be the cook who'll provide you with an insight as why the sweet Bann (I indeed was used to find him nice before I went through the following preparation) may yet leave a bitter aftertaste to some of us.
I tried to adapt this as much as I could to the "no-spoiler" diet of this thread, but I'm afraid I failed.
Here's the (foul) recipe :
WARNING : SPOILERS MAY STILL BE FOUND BELLOW!

1_ RP a strongly libertarian mage (blood-mage even recommanded if you have already this spec. unlocked through a previous game) but a caring and altruist one : A bit like a cross between Morrigan and Anders (who isn't exactly altruist, my mistake).
2_ Give your mage a soft spot for Jowan (I always found that very difficult, but there is no harm trying).
3_ Keep your mage supporting Jowan however he acts (I found personally a few ways to RP it, but not much).
4_ Save every single life in the Redcliffe village attack (out of sheer altruism).
5_ Let Jowan go out of his cell but don't choose the option "I never want to see you again". The purpose is to let him prove he will help from his own volition.
6_ Once you get the conversation about Connor's fate, keep looking at Bann Teagan closely (What he seems inclined to do, the way he says it.)
7_ Choose the "Lyrium way" to go. (credit to Faerunner who once suggested you could imagine posting your passive pals in the castle, to keep a watch upon Connor. IMO, That's by far the best way to safely RP it .)
8_ Send Jowan into the Fade, to give him a chance to redeem himself. Make a save after he slains the demon, before he leaves the Fade.
9_ In the conversation with Teagan where he asks you about Jowan future, use your last save to explore all the opportunities to beg for your friend to be released (with a mind to give Jowan another opportunity to redeem by helping in your fight against the darkspawn --even if it isn't actually an option-- or simply because your mage think Jowan kept true to his word, resisted well the demon and is therefore top harrowed and harmless.)
10_ Think about all Teagan owes your mage already, and what he is still asking for.
Also think how helpless and clueless he was (especially around Connor), and how resourceful your mage has proven to be, in comparison.
11_ Ask Teagan why he cares for your opinion.
12_ Evaluate how much would you rate his gratitude, or his trust in your grey warden mage's judgement.
Consider whose judgement really matters to him, instead.
13_Check your mage feelings...

END OF SPOILERS
If you can go through all these steps (or did it already) without feeling your PC at least a slightly bit nauseated,
I would eagerly learn how you managed to RP it.??? And I would actually feel relieved, since a part of me is not very proud I am trying to give you some reasons to dislike a character you like:? : Only the other way around should normally be allowed...

To come back in-topic my favorite non-companions characters are Duncan, Shianni, and Dagna the dwarf-mage.

*high-fives* Right on! Zev is ridiculously awesome, and needs more love!

No need to apologize – there are plenty of people who have problems with Teagan, and I can totally understand why you found the situation with Jowan frustrating. Personally though, I don't really hold that against Teagan, because I see that situation a bit differently. But to avoid more spoilers, I think it's best if we continue that discussion in the thread "Is Redcliffe really worth saving?" – you can find my response there.

It's gonna have to be Leliana, but Shale, Sten, and Morrigan follow very closely in terms of DA. For DAII - we're looking at Merril, Isabella, Varric

DAO: Morrigan, Shale, Sten, Alistair, Leliana.

DAA: Justice, Anders. Mixed together, however, is probably my most hated character in all of DA.

DA:O: Leliana. Loves animals, cute accent, her speech before she sang the elven song was very moving. Charming and beautiful.
Alistair: Dumb witted but funny. Lightens up the mood, funny banter.
Morrigan: Her voice actress. Cunning and smart. Hilarious banter between her and Alistair.
Oghren: Someone I'd enjoy drinking with, would keep me entertained.

DA:A: Anders: A bit like Alistair minus being dumb-witted.
Sigrun: Her banter with Oghren. Priceless. Cute and adorable, to bad there's no romance in Awakening.
Justice: Noble, headstrong and fearless. Hates demons with a passion that's cool in my book. To bad he becomes one unknowingly.
Nathaniel: At first I didn't like him but ever since I recruited him, he began to grow on me. Began to hate his father for what he had done. Worthy to redeem the Howe's legacy.

*spoilers*

Sten for me. At first I thought he was your generic stoic warrior until I started to peel away the layers of his background culminating to his response when I returned his sword both to me and Doggy.
Sten speaking to Doggy:
"You too, know what it is like to have a weapon that is a part of you. Few others do."

On a more superficial level, I am a sucker for his epic battle cries in combat even if I have no clue as to what they mean. His banter is amazing and the cookies moment with that Templar is priceless.

The singular moment for me was when I finally defeated the Archdemon. That battle gave me fits and had to reload numerous times and I was not going to lower the difficulty. So, I was finally on a good run having figured things out and was almost there until that big area flame attack wiped my squad with the exception of Sten. I'd used up all my potions and Sten was on his last legs. One more hit and I'd have reload yet again until Sten lands a critical strike whilst informing the most powerful creature in the history of ever that "you battle a Qunari!" Controller was then dropped whilst I stood up, arms raised in victory.

This moment was even more bitter-sweet due to Sten's epilogue text since my warden gave the Ultimate Sacrifice:

"Sten bowed once before the Warden's remains and then left without saying a word. When fellow Qunari asked if there were worthy people outside of Par Vallon, Sten answered that in all his travels he had only met a single one."

Origins: Among the companions, Oghren, because of his carefree attitude. Leliana, of course among the ladies, because of being a hot forbidden fruit. hehe. Among the NPC's probably Riordan (Unsung Hero) and King Cailan although they appear for a very short time.

Awakening: Sigrun - for her voice (kinda hot), and Anders for being a jerk but good at heart.

I really like all the companions, but just like a lot of people, I have my favorites. (only listed companions; too many NPC's that I like to list...)

DAO:
Zevran, Alistair, Shale, Sten

DAA:
Nathaniel, Sigrun, Anders

DA2:

I like how the OP says state 1 and everybody ignores it. LOL (I will too since I'm going to pick 1 from each game.) :P

For DAO: Alistair
For DAA: Nathaniel Howe

If we add in DA2: Carver B)

 But it's so easy to do. I do it myself.

Often times people don't read the OP anymore and just go with the format that the poster above them are doing. It's funny to see how off threads can get from the OP.
