Does any one else consider Alistair to be useless?

I used him in my second go around of the Dalish quests and had a very hard time completing it. First time I used Sten instead of Alistair and had no problems. I had to switch him to a bow with fire arrows to complete it. He seems to die every other fight. He is now persona non grata with me. Sten is better, heck even the dog is better.

Alistair is a great tank. You probably just leveled him up wrong.

*giggles*
Alistair is my "Oh crap, that thing looks really scary! Alistair, go kill it!" character. He just runs at stuff and keep it occupied while Leliana and my two mages kill everything else.
With blood plate and the meteoric sword, plus an artifact shield, he tanks Revenants by himself and very occasionally needs a heal (if the AI for some reason seems to deliberately ignore the "IF MY HEALTH FALLS BELOW 50% DRINK A HEALTH POTION!" tactic that's the first in the list. God I hate that.)
He's an awesome sword and shield guy. Why would you ever give him a bow?

I've had some issues w/ him, I mostly story used him, but my main toon is Tank so I've banked him since. I didnt really tweak his tactics well, but it seems he is always off shield bashing enemies that don't matter or running in the wrong direction

Alistair is the only S&B true tank there is, unless you are one yourself, and youll need him at the end most likely.

I actually removed his talents with the console to make him a dual wielding warrior and started pumping dex into him. He's not bad actually for DPS but yeah he didn't fit as well since I was main tank.

I love Alistair and keep him with me at all times. He's spec'd to massive shield defense.

Yea, the toon I am using, or was using him with is a tank also - and Sten is an absolute killing machine. The Dog(Shadow) is useful - especially finding things. With Morrigan as ranged it is working better. I didn't have a whole lot of problems with him(Alistair) with my main who is a Rogue but then I used him sparingly. The Dog and Morrigan are mainstays in my group.

I don't how unless you are planning on using a PC tank you are forced to take Alistair along with you. It would be cool of Bear shapeshifters could tank or something like that.

I'm guessing you've not got the right combo of skills/talents if he's not getting it done. The last talent I gave him makes him immune to any kind of knock down. He can't be flanked either, another skill. I would NOT autolevel anything. Ever.

Alistair to be useless? No way, as soon as he has shield wall he's the best tank in the game. Once you have in massive armor and has champ auras and the passive shield skills he's unstoppable. Just throw him in dragonbone armor when him in the middle of the horde of enemies taunt then cast inferno on him and the horde, not to mention he can't be knocked down or backstabbed.

Even in the best armor, he's a mediocre tank. Shale and Sten are both better. I keep him because of his personality.

Allistar is a superb tank but if you have access to Shale and know how to use him he can keep the threat and attention of any single mob or large groups easy.

Allistar sucks simply because you dont need a tank. He wastes a slot that couldbe filled by DPS and CC

Hell no, Alistair is great. I have him loaded up with so much spell resistance hes a walking talking apostate killing machine.

Allistar is my favorite companion, For two reasons, Tanks are needed, and secondly he has the best personality in my opinion.

I hate it when auto-allocate like skills fail to know what they're doing. If ya can't trust them, what's the point of them?
It keeps lookin to me like Alistair is worth keepin around for his mouth alone, if nothing else.

Alistair and my warrior Champion/Templar work very well together. We keep the melees off the mages and archer.

Alistair is good tank. Plus he's spec'd into sexiness x 1,000,000, which is pretty much indispensable for those long lonely nights away from camp.

I think Alistair is fit to go solo. Basically he's on shield mode for me and stong enough to handle his own. I usually just leave him alone to take on 1 or 2 while the rest kills off the others.
I just watch his HP on his icon and zoom back to him when it's getting low.
He is also great to temporary shield bash attackers from behind to give some breathing space when the party is surrounded.

Tank with a shield? Naw, with 2 mage 1 rogue party, I need him, and I will always need him, and I will never say that again about another man.
