First of all, this is not a dig on the other moderators.  I think those guys are doing everything they can do.  It just seems like the forums are too big and too busy for that little handful of guys to handle especially considering a lot of them mod in their spare time and their real job is doing something totally unrelated.  I appreciate that they do this, apparently just for love of the community.

Even so, trolling is getting out of hand IMO.  The ME2 general boards are crawling with them.  The DA2 boards are a grand melee.  Reporting specific posts seems like it just gets a whole thread closed instaed of getting the specific troll dealt with.  This is really annoying because some good or useful threads get closed while other threads with vague topics with nothing but shouting matches will on go for pages and pages without anybody stepping in.  Something isn't right.  Maybe the report feature is messed-up.  Maybe the moderators are overworked.  Maybe it's both.  I don't know.

I just know the old Bioware boards didn't seem to have as much a problem with this.  Trolling and fighting are just a part of forums.  I know that.

I don't know about this specific forum (off-topic) because I hardly ever come here, but as for the forums I stay in (ME2 and DA2), it seems like they get crazy a lot.

Sorry if this is pushy.  I have no idea if more moderators would fix this problem.  But it darn sure couldn't hurt.

The moderators cop a lot of flak for what they do, and people should be grateful rather than angry.

I have found that the ME 2 is the worst on these forums (with the exception of DA 2) and only two people are even trying to keep things sane over there.

If you have a problem in the ME 2 forums look for Javierbegazo or Stanley Woo and sendnone of them a message. Usually quicker then reporting.

I agree that more moderators are needed, perhaps in the "early morning" slot for the US, which is morning and early afternoon in Europe.

But really, it's the call of Chris Priestly (I believe), and if he doesn't think more mods are needed then so be it.

LOL, I generally avoid the ME2 forums at all costs any more, and only peek in the DA2 one when a new topic seems interesting. Not sure if more mods could even contain it, because all mods can really do is warn, close threads and ban people for some amount of time - and none of that is anything more than a very temporary solution. The real problem is the people posting, and no one can regulate other people's brains yet.

I agree. Trolling and flaming is getting out-of-hand here. I'm deadly serious when I say this is worse than the Halo forums (which are awful beyond belief).

This is why social networking sounds great on paper and is horrible in execution.

Needing "cops" to keep people from being jerks to each other.

The few forums I've seen manage to keep reasonable control over the environment are ones with enough active moderators to cover all time zones. Even an hour of success for a troll is a win, so you have to bring the hammer down as quick as possible.

Anyway, I'm always told these threads are supposed to go in the social.bioware.com site help forum.

Generally, there are enough Moderators. However, keeping the peace is not just a Moderator's responsibility, but is also a community member responsibility.

If there is a problem somewhere in a forum, contact any Moderator. We don't all have the same 'Moderator Powers'™ in every forum, but we do have sufficient means of contacting each other to get issues resolved as quickly as possible.

It's been my opinion that weekends are almost devoid of moderation in many, if not in most, of the forums, whether or not PMs are sent to several moderators describing the various breakages of ToS. Stupid stuff done on a Saturday morning has remained unmoderated until Monday afternoon on at least two occasions, and then the moderation didn't include putting a stop to the source account of the difficulties, leading to repeat offenses.

It would probably help if we knew which moderator was active at any time. Either you play detective trying to find the moderator that happens to be around at the time or you start sending PMs to everyone hoping you find one that can help.

Not completely devoid of Moderators, I and others poke our heads in various forums during the weekends. There are less BioWare staff in the forums on the weekends, I grant, but that doesn't mean they aren't available to the Community monitors when needed.

This.  A lot of times it is completely unclear who to PM.  Who has mod powers in what forum.  Who might be on at the moment, etc.  And many times because of that we don't know who to PM it is many hours before a problem is dealt with and by that time a thread has often spiraled out of control and has to be closed.  Many times we don't want the thread closed, but reporting posts seems to get a thread closed sometimes instead of just getting trolls dealt with.  A good example.  The "anti-tali alliance" guys who basically do nothing but enter any thread that has anything to do with Tali, quarians, or anything that even sounds something like that and attempt to get it off topic, start a flame war, and get it closed.  Why haven't some of those guys been banned?  Permanently.  There are several others who fit this description on the DA2 boards.  I just don't understand when I see the same trolls popping up over and over sometimes.  Why are those guys still here?  I find it hard to believe that they haven't been reported multiple times.

Do your part. Keep copies of reports to refer to when you report again, so you can say with the new one: "same offense reported previously on July 5th and May 21st". I know, that's what the mods should be doing, but there obviously is some edict from on high for them not to apply strict enforcement.
