Sten he DISPROVES OF EVERYTHING! i mean if i do something good he goes noooo darkspawn if i do something evil nooooooo darkspawn then i get -5-10 disproval. I heard when you get high enough approval he gets insane strength but this guy disproves of everything so how can i get his approval higher without gifts in conversations.

Ugh the only time i gained approval when i said with my chick character i am not here to impress you and then his approval went up by 6 and i was like O.o. Can someone help me out i want him in my party but man its the disproval lol

I love Sten, I'm thinking I'm going to have to take him out because he only gets one specialization though, He just starts lagging far behind in mid to late game. (still waiting to hear if this is a bug)

He approves of everything Morrigan does not it seems. I have the both of them in my group and I can only seem to please one or the other. Usually Sten approves, but I appease Morrigan with giving her gifts, because women are shallow and will forget if you give them shiny things:p

He's a hard nut to crack. If you stop talking to him when it's sounds like he's fed up, I says thank and your approval goes up a bit. You have to take the fast route for everything. So basically just the main quest, and kill everything that is in the way or ignore it. That makes him really happy so far.

Not true he likes agressive, impulsive actions. My party came across a guy who was profiteering from the refugees in the first town or whatever, i had the choice to help the refugee, help the profiteer or kill the profiteer. I killed the profiteer for fun, and sten loved it, approved +2, but that queer alistar disapproved -5

I dislike sten and between oghren and shale, I never need to take his old, grumpy, disapproving ass. It's like dragging your pissed off grandpa all around with you while you're trying to have fun.

Sten's sitting on a couch eating Cheesy Poofs with Leliana instead of adventuring with me. But he earned it by being a jerk at every possible occasion. I prefer a golem or even the dog's company over his.

Sten could have been the stoic badass character who is difficult to get through to at first, but becomes a fiercely loyal and true friend. In fact, I think that is maybe what the writers were going for. If so, they failed, because he just comes across as a a-hole. I need to find someone else who specializes in 2-handers or else my awesome sword goes to waste.

He's worthless. The 2 handed fighting style is just two slow in this game. It's also historically inaccurate.

Historically inaccurate? In a fantasy game? In that case we'd have to get rid of the darkspawn, elves, dwarves, mages and magic, the entire setting of Fereldan and Thedas and...well pretty much the entire game. Who gives a crap about historical accuracy in a fantasy game?

And the 2-handed fighting style kicks ass IMHO. I've got Sten up to level 15, given him two of the top two 2-handed style talents and boy does he put out some damage with that nice 2-handed axe I got from the Sacred Ashes quest.

I got Sten's approval to about 20-25 with gifts and then with a few conversations up to 98. It didn't take much, just pick the right choices and you get 20 or so approval a few times after a conversation. The only thing he likes about Ferelden is hilarious.

Smiles? Dear god I think I would fall off my chair if he ever did that.

I disagree. I think they succeeded pretty well. He is a bit of an ****, but mostly he's just bizarre, once you get through to him.

I never bothered to let Sten out of his cage in Lothering. If he slaughters families, then he's not going to be anywhere near me.

Thanks.

Furthermore I would add that, if I hadn't known in advance that he was a playable NPC, I never would have saved him from the cage. It felt weird that right after telling you he butchered a bunch of children, with no indication of remorse or reconciliation, that the conversation seemed to be steering you toward rescuing him. There is not even an indication beforehand that he would even be useful in a party other than his sheer size.

The only reason I did rescue him had nothing to do with the plot or the writing. I just like having a lot of people in my camp. But that's a poor reason.

Better hope theres no women in your house to read this, then smack you upside your head, not talk to you for a week, and then you will need to be buying some shiny things...

He really hated me by the end and that was just from the convos with him in camp I did not take him any where.  Yet some how I swung a 100 with alister, lel, morrigan, wyne, and zev.  Got the dwarf and shale late and did not do much with them.

Maybeo nthe next playthru I'll stick orghrim, sten and shale in with what ever I make. I could see some interesting convos happening there.

It's funny to me considering Sten was the first character I got to 100% He has a sense of honor: Doesn't like you taking advantage of the defenseless etc. He's definitely not a do-gooder either though and doesn't want you to show weakness because you are supposed to lead everyone against the Dark Spawn. He's definitely very loyal at 100%, and it's rather endearing in a way
