I agree it would be very bad if something like that ended the story, but consider this.

It didin't take an entire fleet to take out just Sovereign. It was backed up by a serious amount of geth ships that were on par,if not stronger than the whole standing Citadel army. While Sovereign raced towards the Citadel, the geth were a distraction for the defenders. Of course Sovereign's shields helped but we don't know if that would be the case were it not for the geth backup.

Sovereign used the geth in the first place because it knew it wouldn't stand a chance against a whole united, but otherwise ignorant universe.

Now the Reapers are exposed, not publicly but the major military powers are aware of them and they've lost the element of surprise plus the technological advancement accelerated at the sight of such a poverful enemy. Thanix cannon, anyone? The Collectors already proved this theory, the remains of Normandy v1 decorate a frozen planet, but v2 destroyed the previously superior enemy in direct combat.

Also,ME3 will probably be like Dragon Age, gather allies, reconcile disputes etc.
So,the whole universe, all fleets everywhere, united and prepared for the onslaught? We'll see. :D

Sovereign's shields held up against an entire fleet for an extended period of time.  It didn't even start fighting back until the alliance had been bombarding it for a while.

If there's any use of the words 'mothership' or 'virus' in Mass Effect 3, it will be the biggest raping of loyal fans in video game history.

We can't defeat the Reapers but Sovereign and Harbinger were A**holes and they decide not to attack us if we don't attack them because they get addicted to those Asari/Hanar games.

The perfect ending would either be:

1) find some way to ensure the Reapers would never get to the galaxy

2) Reapers come in an it's a bloodbath, but you and a handful of other ships escape through a relay, which is deactivated after using it. You are safe from the Reapers, and after the Reapers have gone you can go back to the rest of the galaxy, and attempt to advance technology to the point that when the next Reaper invasion comes, you'll be able to destroy them.

Well, remember that BW said that when Shep killed the Saren Husk, that is what turned Sovereign's shields off, so maybe Shep will have to infiltrate the "lead Reaper" and kill some kind of similar creature.

This.
In the past two games all we've really done is kill 1.5 reapers. From the ending of ME2 there were...a lot more. As in not what you could kill in one final boss battle.

I am expecting now a Gears of War style of ending... where only by sacrificing some huge asset can they be killed..... hmmmm

Maybe rigging the citadel so that they realize is open.

They go into the traveling, only to realize the citadel is no longer an instantenous traveling relay, and traps em in w/e space is while traveling... citadel blows..... relays are...:

Blow up?

Broken but able to be repaired?

Go into standby for a couple of years?

You can't fight the reapers, and a virus like ending as in independence day or something is just weird.

You know, I'd kind of like to see a sad ending where Shepard fails. I.E. he and a few of his friends escape, but the Reapers kill everyone else. Shepard and his crew survives and start to repopulate the galaxy, but the ultimate question is, "Can they be defeated?" Food for thought.

And Bioware has already hinted at a Deus ex Machina type ending, but not pulled from thin air. Haestrom and its whole thing seems pretty foreboding. More than likely, MASS EFFECT will play a huge part in defeating the Reapers.

Bah, I'm not worried. Bioware has done this enough to know what it's doing. Hopefully.

REpopulate?.... man it would have to be many "few" friends, otherwise the genetic pool would be too small to allow safe repopulation.

"Bah, I'm not worried. Bioware has done this enough to know what it's doing. Hopefully."

that is exactly what has me worried though :P

Well, not really repopulate... I mean like... go on. Keep living type of thing.

And I mean... come on... there are all kinds of theories about this and fanfics, some of which are quite good. If a sixteen year old such as myself can come up with a cool ending, reason says that a team of mature storywriters can do the same.

There is a difference, we do it, without any financial thoughts on mind. They have to have those.

ANd like all things, when you do things for fun, they never get old... when you do them to get paid... there is a chance things go wrong.... or you get greedy... the latter has already began to happen despite of claiming otherwise.

Still we'll see :P we'll see.

I just hope it goes out epic, and of course I don't want Shepard to die. I know this is the last Shepard game but it will just ruin it if somehow he has to sacrifice himself to do something. But I trust Bioware more than any other company so whatever they choose I'll respect that.

We've had the Geth shown to be viable allies. We're going to be shown that there are entities of the Reaper race who oppose the Reapers and will help once the Galaxy proves they're ready to oppose the Reapers.

Oh god when you said ground battle against the leader of the Reapers my mind jumped. I got flashbacks to Doctor Who. What with the Daleks and Davros. That would actually be interesting. But I agree full force. Keep the Deus ex machina out of the game.

The trilogy has so far been about humanity's role in the galaxy in the midst of a crisis that threatens all species. The endings for the two games either pushes humanity higher up or keeps them where they are with the benefit of respect from the other species. ME3 will continue the theme, but will push the choices to the limit: 1) Sacrifice humanity to prevent the Reapers from completing their harvest or 2) Sacrifice the rest of the galaxy by making a deal between humanity and the Reapers to harvest all other species in humanity's place

My idea for (1) would be to destroy Earth in some sort of solar event foreshadowed by Tali's recruitment mission. Destroying Earth would be a devastating blow to the number of humans in the galaxy, meaning not enough to sustain the Reapers' survival.

(2) would have Shepard making a deal to help the Reapers collect enough of the other species to help the Reapers survive with the reward of human dominance and survival. However, knowing the Reapers, it would likely come with humanity's transformation into something very similar to the Protheans/Collectors.

Those are my ideas. Both obviously have flaws, but I'm sticking to the idea that Shepard's going to have to make a difficult choice about humanity's future at the end of ME3.

I predict we will somehow end up with a Reaper on our side.  It will sacrifice itself along with Shep to bring about victory.  Some heavy choice will be worked in as well - probably involving the destruction of the Citadel.

Dear lord I hope it's not a Return of the Jedi type ending.. You had the common cold (ewoks) defeating the highly trained and heavily armed Imperial forces on the ground <shudders>

Big space battles, yes please.. but leave the common cold and ewoks out of it!

Final choice goes like this, Shepard used reaper tech to reach dark space and found somewhat of a dark citadel, Finds thousands of idoctrinated slaves husk ect. kills them, finds the Power source of all reapers and the only thing standing in his way is te descison between earth and the citadel due to earth being near the reaper fleet he/she can coose to

1:blow up the reapers "core" ASAP save earth but will also shutdown the citadel as well killiing all on it Permenatley securing Human dominance

2. Manually disable it taking more time and sacrificing earth, but saving the citadel council, and millions of lives onboard

There will also be a fight that ensues depending on your choice

1: if you sacrifice earth te illusive man who folllowed you to darkspace will try to blow the core along with any squad member in your party who disagrees unless you can persaude otherwise (Miranda jacob VI survior)

2. If you blow up the core Liara who also tagged along will try to kill you no matter what along with the a team of spectres the council sent with you to stop the reapers AND any teamate who disagrees with your descion Samara, Garrus,Thane(due to believing that more lives would be saved if the citadel was chosen) Mordin, Tali.

This is my predicted ending for ME3 you should be in awe

hehehe lol they are squids... they all probably have an inky hole to shoot through right? it connects directly to their mass effect core? no? lol

Or maybe we will see, husks, collectors, reapers being defeted by Pyjacks... that would be feasable... no?:o
