There was no such "catalyst" in the Sovereign affair, no deus ex machina (part of any NDE by religious man). Meaning?

Bumped for truth. this thread should be bumped every day for a reminder how incompetant the writers are.

More likely they're inconsistent. The original ME-3 ending clearly shows how nervous they'd actually been in the plot service - one step forward, two to the side and three back, with the final result of an Extended Cut which is nothing but a perfect French fish soup to feed everyone...  in an act of despair. Pitiful, as Harbinger might have muttered.

If you are reading this then there is still hope. Hope that you can avoid the same mistakes we made. We fought Bioware, but were unable to get a satisfactory ending. We did everything we could. We sent the cupcakes, but they didn't work. We fought as a united fandom, but it wasn't enough. I only hope the information in this thread is enough to help you before it's too late..

Y' all. The endings are just not that bad. You must realize, as do I, that art is a subjective thing. One will like a piece of art, the other will not. Neither is right or wrong. Subjectivity cannot be judged by an objective framework or moral code.

Admittedly, some artistic endeavors are so wholly lacking in merit that they do reach the level of objective disdain. The Mass Effect 3 endings surpass this very low threshold.  Hence, at least with the extended cut DLC, the ardor of the anger about the endings is excessive.

I don't have the words to describe how sad this quote is now, a year later.

This leads me to believe that the writers will, unfortunately, be forced to use a deus ex machina to end the conflict with the Reapers.

Hmm..I see where you're coming from, but I think we're jumping the gun here. You fear a deus ex machina
resolution because you can't see a solution to the Reaper problem
that's consistent with suspension of disbelief. Yet if you could see
that potential solution right now, it would mean that the devs had
telegraphed the plot conclusion, and that would be some pretty poor
story-telling right there. Wouldn't you agree?

I...wow...that isn't even the same thing as being close on the money. That's hiring a Time Lord to slip into the future and steal the money for you.

Honestly, this thread should be stickied. If, a year ago, fans just sharing ideas back-and-forth can guess what would be an unsatisfying plot gimmick (i.e. space magic), and then the game actually features that gimmick, something has gone wrong, no?

I was expecting something like this myself.

This was the original script.

What the ****.

I'm now seriously convinced that Walters just browsed the forums and plucked ideas from it.

We will have to agree to disagree Crux.

While the Extended cut is better it still is lacking. I could go into a ramble about it but the things it lacks have been beat like a dead horse so I'll refrain from posting them again.

EC=Better, however IMO not near the quality that I was expecting from the ME team

If only!!!!

There are tons of good ideas here in the forums and at fanfic sites. There was absolutely no need for Space brat and those awful endings.

In drama the idea of a deus ex machina (Latin) is described as follows in a popular online dictionary:

Deus ex machina [dey-uhs eks mah-kuh-nuh]
noun

1. (in ancient Greek and Roman drama) a god introduced into a play to
resolve the entanglements of the plot.

2. any artificial or improbable device resolving the difficulties of a
plot.

The
best example, that many would know, that I can come up with is War of
the Worlds.  The conclusion of the story ends with the aliens succumbing
to the common cold virus and systematically being wiped out.  This is a
deus ex machina.  In a story that progresses further and further to the
inevitable annihilation of the human race, the author, as if running
out of ideas in how to best conclude the story in a happy ending, pulled
the common cold virus out of thin air and used it as the catalyst for
the aliens destruction (since it was made clear that the humans were
helpless to stop the FAR advanced aliens).

Wow man, I'm thinking you're either a prophet or you work for bioware and leaked the ending over a year ago.  It's uncanny how accurate this is, you literally spelled out the ending of the game.

1) God from the machine?  That's what the kid is, and he literally comes from machines.  An artificial plot device?  It's great because both in game and meta game, it's an artificial plot device.

2) This next sentence of yours is enough to convince me that you can see the future or work for bioware:

"...This is a deus ex machina.  In a story that progresses further and further to the
inevitable annihilation of the human race, the author, as if running
out of ideas in how to best conclude the story in a happy ending, pulled
the common cold virus out of thin air and used it as the
catalyst for
the aliens destruction... "

Edit:  Bold was added by me, not original author.*

Now, how about those lottery numbers? ;)

This was uncannily accurate. I checked Chross85's profile, and as far as I can see, this was his only post on BSN.

Therefore he clearly was a being from the future sent to warn us. And we didn't listen.

wow the oracle of Mass Effect, so what happens after this game, will there be firestorm over the next game, another sh*tstorm, or just a flash floods of complains over the direction ME has taken, or is this the end of ME great oracle.
