Now that I understand dualing well, though, I have to say it's awesome. If you're starting in BG1, I honsetly can't see any point in not going something like Fighter 2 -> anything rather than a pure anything (apart from attrib points maybe) if only for a few extra hit points (and more proficiencies - even a wizard is more fun if you can wave a big sword around, and better if you can use a shield and helmet). After all, you only lose out on I think 2k XP, which isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Dualing later can give more benefits, mind.
I'm currently trying Cleric 5 -> Mage (last run-through I went Cleric/Mage multi) but haven't got to L6 yet. I only have BG1 though.
