Low Readership means fewer readers, fewer answers

The very slow viewership here means fewer, or even, NO answers at all, to some questions

          But there are other ways to learn

Readership in the Social forums fell way off last spring, and has never recovered, so many questions get no answers at all (very particularly when they are unnecessary questions, already asked and answered many times).

There are pinned threads on top with answers already in them, and there is a forum Search function:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/3036850

It's a badly crippled thing, and you almost certainly will be better off using Google with a "site:" redirector added to point back to here.  Thus, instead of no answer at all, you can find the already answered threads and get back to playing the game much sooner.

site:social.bioware.com

Should the search fail to include a usable answer, there is a fairly standard report form that PC game forums all suggest and is needed here as well:

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/106/index/1537629

I'll add the equivalent of one "FAQ", for those who are always in a hurry, and ignored the system requirements label on the game:

PC MINIMUM System Requirements
OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Hard Drive = 15 GB
DVD ROM = 1x Speed
Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible
Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
Input = Keyboard / Mouse
Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported GPU Chips: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce G.210, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7400, 7500, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, 9200, and 9300; ATI Radeon X1300, HD 2400, 3100, 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4350, and HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.

From a truly PRACTICAL standpoint, the X1600 XT model Radeon, and the Geforce 6800 GS are far more suitable minimums than any lesser cards in each one's respective series.

Of all the forums here for PC Tech Self-Help, only DAO is still somewhat active now. The DA2 Tech forum has been dead for quite some time already, and this forum seems to also be headed that way.

It may liven up when the release of ME-3 becomes imminent.

From mid-May to late September, gaming forums tend to dry up. There is just too much competition for time, especially the outdoors, as opposed to any location with a 'Net connection (rather few outdoor WiFi setups in sidewalk cafes stateside).

That makes the forum archives the primary source of answers.

All four of the (Bioware game) PC Tech discussion forums here have all gone off on their warm weather sabbaticals now. DAO's message traffic is equally meager compared to its cool-weather self. This forum had anticipated summer by nearly a month, with an early drop in its member participation.

Today is starting out as if it was already a summertime Saturday. Only a couple of days this week really had much in the way of message traffic, so searching the archives is the best way to get an answer, and once again, I want to remind you to ignore the onboard bad excuse for a Search offered here in the forums. It's terrible. See the first post in the thread about using Google and Yahoo.

Hardly anyone is around to read the few questions, and if last week is any indication, only a couple of days in mid-week will have even a "light" amount of message traffic compared to the current sparseness.

The Bioware Social Forums were a very drastic change from the Legacy forums that had been so popular, and it seems that they never gained nearly as much traction as would have been needed to retain the very high member participation that had characterized the old forums. All of the forums began to see a drastic slowdown last spring that became worse in full summer.

There was a short blip in November, when it seemed that people were going to return and build a community here. But only the ME3 forums and the Off Topic forum have more than a handfull of people around any more. You'll have to use the FAQs that Kloreep assembled, and the forum archives.

The archives have NOT gone away, nor has Kloreep's FAQ compendium been erased. What you need to know is covered, at least 99%. For the small remainder, you are either serious about it and follow the Guide on reporting, or you don't care enough about your problem.

Nothing has changed in the past week, other than additional off-topic spillover from ME-3.

THis had only scrolled down to page four, and yet new arrivals continue to address questions to the absent members, who mostly left ten months ago, and never returned.  When they were here, it was a gamer to gamer forum.  Nothing official at all in here, but there are now only a very few readers on hand, occasionally.

There is still a similar repeated reminder from only five days ago that you people could have scrolled down to find, if you would just remove your blinders, blindfolds, and other impediments, in order to be able to actually see what's here. But no, what we have are new arrivals stumbling into the furniture, running into walls, and it's no longer funny after the 500th or 1000th repeat of the same boring inanity.

Ten days later, and so few forum posts in that time that this was still on the second index page, VERY easily found!
