To be serious, some "American" type fighting skills would be nice. It would be interesting if your character could use a whip or a lasso and have special abilities for that. Hope this is not too stereotypical.

Dude. What's with the bigoted jerkasses in this thread?

Great, you have a problem with America. Take it somewhere else.

We see American newscaster accents all over Thedas. And I don't see cultural equivalents in Thedas so much as historical cultural equivalents. America is too modern to have an Expy country.

Uhh what's an "American type" personality? I must have been disconnected from the American hivemind or something.

I haven't played part in the anti-American sentiment on this thread but I don't see why the hate should come as a shock, to be honest. I'm only Canadian and I frequently get harassed on forums / online games when the other people find out I'm not american. I just slap them on ignore and keep playing but it gets annoying when your ignore list is full. :P

I'm stereotyping, yes. Although I've experienced too much of it that it's left me bitter.

America doesn't really have a culture. Blacks have a culture. America has tv and John Wayne. Neither really amount to much.

it's surely not bigoted if you're from the U.S.A. Sorry, we have earned our reputation, and having a laugh at it is good medicine.

So are Dwarves Australian or what? They live down under, constantly pissed, unique fauna that cannot be found topside.

I'd take exception to that...if it didn't contain an element of truth.

Yeah thanks.

Because getting my teeth knocked out didn't suck enough without the threat of getting my fingers sliced off if I fall on my ass.

/jk of course as I see some people are getting offended.

One of the reasons I liked The Witcher so much is that it was rooted in Eastern European folklore. It gave the game an authentic and original feel. We already have enough generic GI Joe hero types in video games, and I for one was thrilled to learn that Hawke has a British accent. Seems fitting to me.

Alright then the only thing you need to do to realize what American culture is, is travel or learn about other cultures.

I'm from the North-Eastern seaboard of the US and have no idea what you are talking about. Whip? Lasso? Are those some new overpriced Starbucks drinks I can sip from my Ivy Tower while not being a "real American"? [/sarcasm]

But in all seriousness, Thedas is an analouge to middle age Europe. Which is why you have FANTASY-English, and FANTASY-French, and FANTASY-Italian city states, and FANTASY-Byzantium in a skermish war with FANTASY-Ottomans. Its impossible to have Americans there because they simply don't fit in. Also as jarring as the "gun slinging WASP" imagry has become America is still an algamation of people from all over the world with no ethnicity or nationality having an overwhelming majority, or at least its like that where I live. So any "ethnically"or even "culturally" American caracter type that doesn't incorporate all of that will seem awkward and "fake" to my understanding of "American"

The dominate culture in a society is always going to be a target for resentment from the lesser ones, Seeing as how we have a global society these days (and a global community on this board),   Take it as a testement to your power, (or amusing at least)
