I'm not saying there aren't terrible jerkass Americans. Every country has jerks and saints (what's that Kaidan quote about aliens along those lines?). I get prickly when I get lumped in with the ****s though.

When it's directed at "Americans" like we're a hivemind it is about me. Because I am an American. And I never claimed we don't have problems, but as I am not a representative of my government or military I don't feel I should field the contempt people feel towards it.

I don't judge people by their governments. I don't want to be judged by mine. Yes, this is an idealistic stance and yes, it's probably too much to ask on the internet, but I'm going to argue for it anyway.

True but the reasons he's almost universally hailed as an idiot aren't consistent. Myself I despise him for his hatred of gays, foreigners, the military, his incredible toxic theology and the fact they refuse to even let dead men rest.

Many Americans simply hate him for his hatred of the military and agree whole heartily with his xenophobic views.

Many Americans? Can you take a poll of every single American there is?

This stereotyping and generalization is beneath everyone. How can you not see how hypocritical it is to knock on America--I don't see anyone from America bullying anyone else in this thread. If we're such crazy jingoists like the stereotypes say we are, then where are those in this thread?

Again, think about the general haters in this forum--are there really that many? No. The ones that are here congregate because this is a place where they can be heard relevantly. Same thing with douchey Americans. The normal ones don't register as being good Americans. The bad ones register as being bad Americans. If you encounter them, it's generally in a setting that it benefits them to be a douchey American.

Loudest in the group is not the largest in the group.

I'm not sure where that show comes from but as far as I know that church is basically just his extended family. The picketers are related to him and they try to provoke people into assaulting them so they can sue them and make money. They literally are trolls.

Surely you can't believe that people on this message board are representative of Americans at large. I believe that that people (Americans) on here are, in general, of a different breed, and more open minded than the typical American.

Unless you are speaking about American ACCENTED characters, in which case i would claim its silly to say "Character X is obviously an American because his VA uses an American sounding voice for him" even if Character X is a giant robot elf from another plane of reality
