Bioware should break a barrier and put a African American character in DA2

No. There is no Africa and no America and I don't think Thedas needs interdimensional portals.
Anarya, dear, didn't you hear the man? Break barriers. Interdimensional portals count.
EDIT: On a serious note, I don't think that this is a barrier, per se. We don't know if any black-equivalent (BTW, not all black people are American) nation/race exists in Thedas the continent. The Rivaini are dark-skinned, IIRC.
I think what you're really saying is you'd like to see a non-medieval Europe based RPG. Which would be interesting, but BioWare didn't do too well with Jade Empire. I'm not sure how much they want to try again.

"You're in Kirkwall, poor dear. What's happened to you?"
"I was driving mah cadillac car when all of a sudden I woke up here!"
"Oh.. you must be suffering from the taint, come with me to the Chantry and we'll take care of you."

Forget about it, I might say something that would get me banned.

Black people, yes.
Duncan is from a place that I forget the name of, isn't everyone there supposed to have dark skin?
It's also worth nothing that if Ferelden is indeed based on the British isles, that Britain actually had black people as early as the 13th century (mind you, not very many). These people likely came on boats with Mediterranean merchants as sailors or some such so it wouldn't really be that odd to have a couple of black people in Ferelden and Orlais.

No, the Rivaini. Duncan was half Rivaini, which is why he was darker-skinned than pretty much anyone else you met in Origins.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Bioware said that the only reason there were no black people in Origins was that Ferelden was essentially Medieval Europe and that there would definitly be black people in different parts of Thedas.
Anyway, what barrier? Plenty of fantasy books, games and movies have black people in them. Everyone in Earthsea is black (don't quote me on that, I'm pretty sure I read about that somewhere), Tamriel has redguards, etc. I think that more fantasy settings need to either have more black people (many fantasy RPGs have 1 or 2 black main characters and leave it at that, like Fable) or come up with reasons for why they're not there, like DAO.

There's one RPG that fits into that category that's being produced. It's an indie RPG called Age of Decadence, it's a dark low-fantasy RPG (you aren't going to be casting fireballs in this setting, if you try that, a huge mercenary will laugh at you and stab you with his gladius) based on the fall of the Roman Empire, but there's a lot of influences from Egyptian, Greek, Indian, and Arabic cultures in some areas and in the weaponry and clothing.
IMO, the fewer medieval RPG's with heavy influences lifted from Tolkien, the better.

Not all black people are African American. They exist elsewhere in the world too, you know?thatbwoyblu wrote...
I notice that the ongoing cliche in fantasy titles revolving around medieval times is to basically create enviorments with absolutely no African Americans.I think it would be both refreshing and ground breaking if Bioware could figure out a way to incorporate a african American in a game like Dragon Age 2.

Most people in Earthsea are black or olive-skinned (think Greek), but Ged does travel to a land where white skin/blonde hair/blue eyes is dominant in the second book and a character he meets there becomes important in later books.
And, of course, any time someone wants to do something with Earthsea they go and make Ged white. Sigh.

Yeah that's dumb. I don't know why they do that. Even the Studio Ghibli film made them white. Would have been just as easy to make them dark.
