So Gaider, according to this, when we're engaging in... "relations"... with Isabella at the Pearl, or doing a threesome/foursome, we're getting it on with a black woman?

According to the lore the Rivaini are a dark-skinned people, yet Isabella was very clearly a red-haired white woman. My guess is that she is Rivaini by nationality but not by ethnic heritage. The name Isabella may suggest Antivan origins. Perhaps her parents immigrated to Rivain from Antiva?

Honestly, the thing that made me LOL was RepublicPyroGuyPro's comment: "Jacob, Jacob, We have to teach the Badman a lesson and ting.", which is a quote from GTAIV.

It's not like Origins didn't have a few party members heralding from distant countries. Sten, Leliana, and Zevran to be specific.

A black party member from Rivain isn't out of the realm of possibilities by any means.

From where? Great Britain or Ferelden?

I thought France and Orlais were pretty close to both.

The Party should be comprised of people who are required for the plot and those who extend the story to new heights, without worry as to whether everybody in our world is represented or not.

So we're getting in on with the Irish.

There are indeed black people in Thedas-- the Rivaini have skin tones ranging from dark tan to ebony. You'll find them scattered in various places. As to whether or not we would ever have a party member who was Rivaini, we'll see. I don't think we would include it just for the sake of including it. As a character concept, representation of a real-world ethnic group is pretty weak if that's all it is.

Insofar as someone not liking the fact that Thedas is (very loosely) based on medieval Europe-- well that's nice, but we like it just fine.

Lmao, Sweet confirmation. See Rivaini are the blacks.

They didnt base the game on medieval europe. You should probably know some stuff about history before making claims. There were blacks in medieval Europe. They were sometimes called moors. Also blacks could exist in Thedas because of the description of people from Rivian.

Stop flaming me ifI know more than you....

Anyways, yes, they did base DAO on medieval Europe.

Its loosely based.

I actually was a bit at a loss here. How do you bring AFRICAN-AMERICAns to the continent of Thedas? Hmm, even the Maker might have to pause at that.

There ARE dark skinned characters in the game. There are no French, Russian, English, or any real world race in particular. There are cultures that are based on the real world countries, but culture and race are not the same.

Well, your novels show that you are a very skilled writer - definitely skilled enough to come up with something original (which you already did in many aspects). I just think the medieval setting puts DAO in a league with just about every other fantasy game (and novel, and movie...). It should be better than those.

Great idea. But then the government would need to make more money in ways of paying off everyone's welfares and food stamps. And then they would start poppin' out babies like nobodies business! And then the crime rates would sky-rocket, and they'd have to mass produce jails to hold them alll...and oh god I could go one forever....

Heheh, yes I'm joking. If you're insulted, learn some humor or something. Feel free to insult me, because I wouldn't care.

They don't seem to have a country of their own, but Liselle and Anora's maid were both Asian, and Orlesian.

There were not blacks in Medieval Europe as far as we know.
Firstly, The Moors were not black. Not everyone in Africa is black, North of the Sahara it is mostly Arabs, which are not black, they are Arabic.
Secondly, Most Moor armies only succeeded in invading the very southernmost areas of Spain and the Island of Sicily before they were controlled by the Euro armies. In fact, the few Moors (and I say that loosely as the "small" Moorish armies were very very large) that got a foothold in Spain were driven back at the French borders by a general who's name slips my mind, but he had men drafted and trained very well and armored adequately in a short period of time and repelled the Moors
P.S. Rivain is known for its dark skinned natives

This was my response when people complained about race in ME, but it doesn't apply in DAO where it's pretty impossible to make a character with African features--and besides that, their version of "dark" skin didn't look realistic at all.

I allready said Moors were Berbers, Black Africans, and Arabs. Im guessing you dindt see my previous posts. I've allready gave some loactions Moors were at. Im aware not everyone In Africa is black. Also history have allready said blacks were in Europe during medieval times.

When you say 'we', do you mean 'you', or is this Bioware's view?

(I actually think your reply comes off as being rather arrogant, and I make no apologies if my words offends)

cheers

I'm a big fan of seeing more visual and cultural diversity in DA2.

So am i.  I don't see any reason why there wouldn't be all shades of skin color in different areas.  I wouldn't call it African American, since they don't exist in DA, but a darker and even a very pale/lighter skin tone would be a welcome addition.

Do you honestly think a dev would reply on the official forums of his company if with 'we' if it only meant 'they'?
