What i personally got from his post was that there were "black people" in Thedas, and they weren't there "just to be there", as some other people have put it. They are there for a reason, like the elves, the qunari, etc.damage1900 wrote...

Insofar as someone not liking the fact that Thedas is (very loosely) based on medieval Europe-- well that's nice, but we like it just fine.
When you say 'we', do you mean 'you', or is this Bioware's view?
(I actually think your reply comes off as being rather arrogant, and I make no apologies if my words offends)
cheers

What a dumb thread! You do realize you can make your character any color you want.

Do you honestly think a dev would reply on the official forums of his company if with 'we' if it only meant 'they'?

I notice that the ongoing cliche in fantasy titles revolving around medieval times is to basically create enviorments with absolutely no African Americans.I think it would be both refreshing and ground breaking if Bioware could figure out a way to incorporate a african American in a game like Dragon Age 2.

A lot of people use 'we' to give emphasis.
I suspect David can give his own reply without you doing it for him.
cheers
edit - Thief-of-Hearts, thank you for the considered reply. Appreciate you taking the time to do so.

Bryy_Miller, are you perhaps the type of person that always have to have the last word, and do you always have to be right?
It's a rather annoying attribute, though I would be really rather surprised if you sustained from replying...
(Apologies to everyone else reading this thread, as I have not added to the discussion)
cheers

hmm... what about Asians? Indians, Mongolians and Chinese have already known the western world and came into conflict and trade before the dark ages, should they be present in Thedas as well?

There are indeed black people in Thedas-- the Rivaini have skin tones ranging from dark tan to ebony. You'll find them scattered in various places. As to whether or not we would ever have a party member who was Rivaini, we'll see. I don't think we would include it just for the sake of including it. As a character concept, representation of a real-world ethnic group is pretty weak if that's all it is.

The ME setting was already multicolored and multicultural before Jacob came along (some of the most important humans you meet are people of color), so I don't see an argument to be made that he was "forced."

I don't think he felt forced at all. His character was bland but it had nothing to do with his appearance or his race. Many of the characters in the ME games look non-white or even mixed-race. I personally think Kaiden looks like he's mixed (Asian+caucasian). I have no idea if this was the intent and nothing is said about it verbally ingame but I always thought so anyway.
