There are indeed black people in Thedas-- the Rivaini have skin tones ranging from dark tan to ebony. You'll find them scattered in various places. As to whether or not we would ever have a party member who was Rivaini, we'll see. I don't think we would include it just for the sake of including it. As a character concept, representation of a real-world ethnic group is pretty weak if that's all it is.
Insofar as someone not liking the fact that Thedas is (very loosely) based on medieval Europe-- well that's nice, but we like it just fine.
So you won't make black characters because its supposed to be loosely based around Medieval Europe (with a random Africa country thrown in the mix?) but you'll let us make black characters using white features.
Well at least Bethesda does it right.
Is that REALLY what you got from that ?<_<

I always thought Anderson looked mixed too. Black/hispanic or black/white or who knows. Black and something.
Mixed race people make total sense in a futuristic setting and I applaud their inclusion AND the fact that it seems to be a total nonissue in that universe. Even if none of the aforementioned characters is supposed to be mixed, it's a step in the right direction.

But again...that argument doesn't make much sense considering the fact that Shepard's superior/mentor was black, and the two humans in Shepard's ME1 squad weren't necessarily white (I don't think they were white, and some others just above me don't think they were white--or entirely white--either).

It's just that....Jacob felt so badly written and cliched, I don't want to see that again in a game ever. If we get a Rivanese party member, which I hope we do, I just don't want him to be a chiched black guy saying "the prize".
Making a hot Riivainese woman though would avoid that problem.

But what you aren't understanding is that Jacob's blandness had nothing to do with his race. He was just a nice guy, and that was it. They didn't intend to make him boring, but that's what we saw him as. The intent was to create an Only Sane Man, but his personality was too uninteresting compared to the others. I wouldn't call him cliched either. If the priiiize sounded cliche to you, it's all the voice actor's fault.
Also, it's Rivaini.

The ME setting was already multicolored and multicultural before Jacob came along (some of the most important humans you meet are people of color), so I don't see an argument to be made that he was "forced."
I don't think he felt forced at all. His character was bland but it had nothing to do with his appearance or his race. Many of the characters in the ME games look non-white or even mixed-race. I personally think Kaiden looks like he's mixed (Asian+caucasian). I have no idea if this was the intent and nothing is said about it verbally ingame but I always thought so anyway.

Not saying this is due to his race, yet you can't say his weirdness is due to him being a nice guy.

He looks of mixed descent, but clearly Asian.

Also, his name is Japanese, but in Western format.

Well you see, this is the magic of us mixed-race people. Other people get confused as to which race we belong to. I said a couple posts up that I am white+Japanese myself. I've been asked if I was Hispanic, Hawaiian, Filipino, as well as every kind of Asian you can think of.
But since it's never addressed in-game you can think of him as whatever you want, really, and you may even be right.

Yes. The argument is one of consistency - that by putting in more black characters they break the European theme - but this "consistency" is nonsensical. It's a fantasy theme, we're on one continent, and the players are allowed to play black characters (Or something close).

A stereotype of what? Nice guys?
Also, "the priiize" has been overexaggerated. And it was simply how the voice actor spoke. They did not sit there and say "Now exteeeend it. Make it more black. Not black enough!"
Unless they did, in which case, I want a video.

So Gaider, according to this, when we're engaging in... "relations"... with Isabella at the Pearl, or doing a threesome/foursome, we're getting it on with a black woman?
According to the lore the Rivaini are a dark-skinned people, yet Isabella was very clearly a red-haired white woman. My guess is that she is Rivaini by nationality but not by ethnic heritage. The name Isabella may suggest Antivan origins. Perhaps her parents immigrated to Rivain from Antiva?
Quite likely, seeing as how Leliana was from Orlais, but was Fereldan by blood. Also, the senior Warden Riorden also had an Orlesian accent and commanded the Orlesian Grey Wardens but was from Fereldan "born and bred".

Kaidan means "ghost story". I couldn't possibly tell you what Alenko means, but I recall it having something to do with Australia.

The only way anyone can make this work, is making a game where black people are Gods and all white ones kiss their feet.
And why Afro-Ammerican? Are you racist and don't want afro-european or afro-russian or native african be in the game too? And I dont even talk about Asians who are majority of the Earth population.
Just f.off with this BS and crawl back to your hole. Try to keep games clean of all this crap.

Alright, no offense, but you are going way overboard. Yes, the OP ignorantly said "African-American", but guess what? It's not a bad thing to want to be represented.
