Bioware should break a barrier and put a African American character in DA2

A Rivaini companion, for example, could be very interesting given their different attitude to magic.

Rivain people are supposed to be dark skinned.
Are you talking about the Qunaris?
Rivain
And it's "Qunari".
Oh! I'm new to this fantasy RPG thing so I dont know much about fantasy RPGs compared to you RPG vets out there.I am fresh out of being a FPS fan boy that hated RPG games.I got a whiff of what Bioware's been cooking for the past few years a few months ago and realized how badly games like gears of war blinded me from the epicness that rpg titles hold.

I notice that the ongoing cliche in fantasy titles revolving around medieval times is to basically create environments with absolutely no African Americans.I think it would be both refreshing and ground breaking if BioWare could figure out a way to incorporate a African American in a game like Dragon Age 2.
Not all black people are African American. They exist elsewhere in the world too, you know?
For some, that is very hard to imagine.

Ferelden, however was very European. And Europe wasn't exactly the most diverse place back in those times. There wasn't a lot of cultural diversity until Christian Europe started to make contact with new peoples in Africa, the Middle East and Far East.

Nope.. because it is indeed not suitable for the settings of the game. This is not Africa and this is along time ago... So no africans were there in America at that time.....

Reminds me of a Vanguard (a MMORPG) I played a while back, where there was a very high cultural diversity, but each concentrated on their respective continents. And even there the number of NPCs of asian/african/arabian looks was very limited, and mainly to ambassadors/merchants, on the medieval-european themed continent. The point being, if you wanted to play a character with african/asian/arabian physionomy you started out in the respective country, not in a medieval european themed setting, like we have in/around Ferelden.
So should, one day, the setting be in Rivain or anywhere else where the general look of the population is different, let's say more Central African, then that's the way our heroes will probably look. Until then any call for any kind of quota is just contra-productive.

African Americans, no.
Black people, yes.
Duncan is from a place that I forget the name of, isn't everyone there supposed to have dark skin?
It's also worth nothing that if Ferelden is indeed based on the British isles, that Britain actually had black people as early as the 13th century (mind you, not very many). These people likely came on boats with Mediterranean merchants as sailors or some such so it wouldn't really be that odd to have a couple of black people in Ferelden and Orlais.
Duncan looked middle eastern, though, moreso than black, re: the dark skin.

Most people in Earthsea are black or olive-skinned (think Greek), but Ged does travel to a land where white skin/blonde hair/blue eyes is dominant in the second book and a character he meets there becomes important in later books.
And, of course, any time someone wants to do something with Earthsea they go and make Ged white. Sigh.
Yeah, it's been years since I read those books.

Well The Moors were Arabic and they had African Mercenaries. Rivain would obviously be the best place to incorporate them because of their culture and dark skinthatbwoyblu wrote...

If so, then yeah, they look kind of like that with a more "night elf blue" color in them. I was just trying to identify that their skin is bronzed, and it is obviously not orangish, so I compared it to the statue of liberty which is greenish blue
