Well I see Africa is also connected to Asia by land, so I guess it is Eurasafrica. And America is also one Continent, since north and south are also connected by land. But what the hell do we do with islands? Are they all different continents?

Does it particularly matter? Some consider it six continents, some seven. Either is correct.

Excuse my denseness, but, what? Are you (jokingly, I assume) saying Europe is the lesser for having France in it, and would be improved if it instead had Japan?

Africa is a different continental plate than the Europe, N America is different continental plate than S america. It doesnt matter if a tiny peice of land is connected. Europe and Asia are the same continental plate.

Look at at this way, if you were in space at an alien planet, youd be like "thats 1, 2 , 3 continents"

If you were an alien in space over planet Earth, youd be like "(looks at Eurasia) thats 1, (looks at Africa) 2, ( looks at N America) 3, (looks at S America) 4, (looks at Australia) 5, (looks at Antarctica) 6 continents.

Continents are LARGE land masses. Islands are too small, except for the case of Australia, where i live:).

There are no characters that look like black people because Bioware didn't want to put them in there. It's as simple as that. No point in trying to justify it.

Oh well. At least I was able to make my Warden black. That's better than most games.

I only count 4. America, Eurasafrica, Oceania and Antarctica. Wiki

Doesn't really matter to me but it seems to matter to some, or why is it discussed here?

Actually as far as I know Italy (or parts of it) is the tip of the african continental plate. So if Italy belongs to the same continent as for example Austria, then in theory any other african country could as well.

Its seperated by Ocean. LANDMASS = above water.  Doesnt matter if a tiny little Kilometre is attached. Technically its not attached because of the suez and panama cannal

Eurasia is totally one peice of land. - no oceans, same plate, absolutely no way it can be counted as two continents.

Folks, keep the discussion related to DA2 and take all the off-topic discussions elsewhere (like Off Topic). Thanks.

I notice that the ongoing cliche in fantasy titles revolving around medieval times is to basically create enviorments with absolutely no African Americans.I think it would be both refreshing and ground breaking if Bioware  could figure out a way to incorporate a african American in a game like Dragon Age 2.

Boo boo. What next Jewish character? It's just a game chill.

I have no problem with this as long as they integrate the character into the story. He/she may be from a far off land or something like that, a foreigner. So long as they don't take the Oblivion route, which had no explanations whatsoever for this type of thing.

Yeah, like Liselle in Denerim. She's from Orlais (France) but has distinct Asian features. Maybe they have a nice special place for Asian people ^^

He stopped 5 hours ago but his page clearly exists. Probably because everyone started telling everyone to ignore him completely, which was hard because there was a SUPER LONG PAGE OF PICS AND LYRICS! Repeated ones! Real attention ho.

Meaning that they didn't want to distort the setting just so it would have a racial balance just like 21st century North America? Yeah, I can see why they wouldn't want to do that.

And yeah, Liselle was weird. I wonder if someone accidentally laded the wrong face settings.

First thing I thought was YAY ASIAN PEOPLE DO EXIST! But then again I'm hypocritical (in a way)
I'm Asian but my PC will be Caucasian types with eyes slightly similar to mine (not slitty at all, just roundish and small-ish). So yeah, Eurasian.

Anora's Orlesian maid Erlina had similar Asian features. I can't recall if Marjolaine appeared Asian or not--I don't think so.

OMG I forgot all about that! I was like "Really? No... But... Nah... But... Hmm... How can there be Asian elves??"

Now that I think of it, the DAO people have many shades of skin especially in the editor...

Dark-skinned does not mean black. There are various peoples in the world with dark skin. Not all of them are "black people."

You, sir, obviosly dont know your Elder Scrolls lore!

Black people in Oblivion are redgaurds that hail from the country Hammerfell, to the norht west of Cyrodil (the land that TES4 is set in).

There aren;t that many African Americans, because the game is deeply based off of mideval lore, which doesn;t usually include Africans Americans.

i don't see why people say "topics like these are useless".
people ask for a certain some, like racial/gender/sexual(ity) diversity because they obviously want something that is more like them or caters more to their tastes, because more often than not those wants are under represented. and yes, they do have validity in their concerns (though they may not often say it the best of ways)

how often do you see a main protagonist that is black? compared to white guys?

how often do you get to play female as a main character in a game? versus being force to play as a guy?

now how often have you seen a black female as the main character of a game?

yeah, exactly.

i like to play as females myself in games when possible, because i am one, and quite frankly, i'm tired of my avatars being male. ultimately though, if the game is good i'll still enjoy it. will it take away from the game any? No, but it will certainly add that much more for me if i do get to play as female.

it's about immersion though, that's what made DAO great. Because being female or an elf, or dwarf wasn't really just an after thought or one tiny sidequest. the dialouge changed, the companions acted towards you different, etc. people who want more black people just want to be represented more and have a more immersive gameplay experience. it's really not that hard to understand.

sure there may not be an Africa or America but that doesn't mean their can't be more than a handful of skintones, and i think we all know that by that people mean they want something darker than "tan" or "golden".
and before this gets quoted with the same old "you had the option to be w/e in origins!", my reply to you is, yes, thank you, we are aware, but i believe the main concern was with the environment in general, and not the PC (despite the fact that i used main characters from other games as examples), because when you run around the world being the only black/asian/hispanic/indian/native american/etc. it does break immersion just a smidgeon.
then again those of us that aren't male/white/straight are probably used to that by now. Image IPB

anyway, for what it's worth i thought in the original game there was a decent amount of diversity, but i cant understand if other people disagree. either way i dont think their opinions should just be brushed aside they ought to be told to "just deal with it" because some people dislike it when people express or stick up for their beliefs.

personally i think it would be awesome if we saw not only more black humans, but black elves, dwarves, and whatever other races the tema can come up with. Image IPB
