Where to start.  I've only played the games, so I haven't been following any of the additional material such as the comics.

I enjoyed the expansion but the were a couple of things that were worthy of a WTF? in my opinion.

1) Runecrafting

a) Why did they spend all that time DA:O talking about how only the dwarves and the Tranquil could handle lyrium for enchanting and then just do away with the lyrium requirement and allow anyone to craft runes?

B) Mechancics of it are annoying.  Items in the list out of order.  Basically have to have every rune tracing to create paragon runes.  Have to go outside to check you mages Runecrafting skill to see your runecrafting recipes.  Yadda, yadda.  Works, but the implemantion.  Aieyyyyy!!! Put Ambassador Cera outisde next Herren or something!

2) Why spend all of DA:O explaning the mindlessness of he darkspawn only to expand the origins by creating sapient darkspawn?

3) Difficulty...It didn't scale well.  I played DA:O on normal and had some trouble here and there.  Not so in DA:A.  I played on Hard an the most difficult battles I can remember were the dragon thralls and the Mother and that isn't saying much.

For example in the Wending Woods were the pockets of enemies are close enough together for the AI to detect them one after another, I simply let the AI run rampant through the woods slaughtering everything they encountered.  Not one person in my party died in the ensuing free for all.

4) Immersion breaking not to bring along my love interest from DA:O (Lelianna) and sworn companion Zevran. (not that I really needed any more rogues in my party, being a rogue myself).

Good companions!
More abilities and specializations!
Reasonably interesting story (even if I found the sapient darkspawn theme to be be difficult to swallow)
More cool loot (although the extra tiers were probably one thing that made the game too easy).

In the future,

Please add more custom graphics for unique weapons and armor
Please make 50 tactics slots available and build in AND and OR among other useful options.

Thanks,

I know there were supposed to be love letters from your significant other (Leliana was in Ferelden to see the Grand Cleric) but I get some of your points. I wish Awakening had gotten more in depth with the supporting characters and the choices you could make (like the inability to help any of the rogue mages that the templar asks you to kill) or why the Magi boon is apparently ignored since templars are still part of the Circle. While there are things that I did enjoy about the game, I'd say the problem is that Awakening was rushed.

About runecrafting, I believe the dwarves and the tranquil are experts at it. It's simply that tranquil perform it just as well as the dwarves because the Circle robbed them of their emotions to make him virtual rune slaves. I'd guess the Warden can perform it, but not as well as the dwarves or the tranquil can.

Ah yes, I think I heard some mention about a love letter.  I don't believe I received one.  However, Lelianna was mentioned in the epilogue.

Now that you mention it.  I didn't like that quest much either (wished I could have talked with the mage in charge of the apprentices to find out their side of the story).  That whole section of quests in Amaranthine seemed to be trying to showcase various things you could do with the toolset.

The love letters were glitched, I believe. You can read them here.

Difficulty wise, Awakenings was WAYYYYYY off. I played on nightmare and never crack a sweat. All those health pots I ported from Origins? Yea, still had 'em at the end of Awakenings - used maybe 4 all game.

And the mechanics- yea, those didn't seem as easy as the Origins ones, or maybe I was just so used to Origins.

Overall, didn't like it as much as I would have liked to.

Since 1.04 the love letters appear in the Codex (but you don't receive them from the Private, which would have been more logical). There's no warning to say they turn up in your Codex either. I found Zev's by accident.

The Sapient darkspawn thing makes more sense if you've read the Calling - the appearance of talking darkspawn is supposed to be a wtf moment.

I agree on the runecrafting, though. I'm not a massive fan of crafting in RPGs. I'd rather, y'know, roleplay.

Thanks.  I suspected that might be what happened. I hadn't got around to checking that, yet.

I'll have to check it out to see if it helps things make more sense.  I tend to agree with another poster that suggested you shouldn't have run into a sapient darkspawn until much later in the expansion.

Again it works, it is just rather cumbersome.  I'd have liked to have seen it all handled in one interface for one thing.

Yes, I think the talking darkspawn should have popped up later. But there are quite a few of them.
