I purchased ME1 and ME2 on steam today. They downloaded smoothly with no problems and installed. But when I try to click play game a dialouge box asking me if i want to launch appears. I click yes, the box closes, theres a brief hourglass. And thats it. Nothing else happens.

No error message, no black screen, no hangs, just nothing.

The MassEffect.exe appears for like 3 seconds in task manager and then disappears.

Im running W7 on a brand new computer with

Amd Phenom II x6 1055
Radeon 5870
8 gigs Ram

Did I just waste 20 dollars on a game that isnt going to run until they release a patch or is there something I can do?

I tried the "run steam as admin" solution even though I am the admin. No luck.

I am also having trouble with ME1 and Win7. It will not run the config manager to get my initial settings and windows is not identifying any problem.
I downloaded from the EA store. DLed fine and appeared to install fine.
But I cannot configure OR Play.
Hoping to find a solution here.

Read the "How to Report" sticky article from Chris Priestley (I quoted him from the ME-2 forum's similar sticky article), and follow that report description to summarize what your system is and what is happening to the game on it.  Your second comment to the forum was equally devoid of diagnostic data, but if you had actually READ the entirety of the thread, you would see that the OP there didn't have a Windows 7 problem at all.

It was a failure to read the System Requirements problem is what it was.

You've been playing Dragon Age, I presume on the same machine, but we still need a great deal of information just to get started on figuring out answers, and you aren't giving it to us.

So: you have decided you don't want to play ME-1 after all, then?

Nah, I played through just fine.

Needed to install the patch and after that my system and the game config manager jived.

The pm I got here suggesting I patch was all I needed and worked just fine.

My system details seemed a bit excessive when I know my machine runs every and any game I play or could want to play. Sometimes you just need to get kicked in the ass with an "obvious" answer like L2Patch.
