 I just started my first new game after installing patch 1.04.  Upon reaching Lothering, I've found that I cannot select the door to Sten's cage, meaning I cannot lockpick it or use the key to open it. This is currently rendering me unable to recruit Sten. Trying to switch targets using the d-pad will cause it to click back and forth between my party members and Sten. Having my party members stand far enough away results in it just clicking and keeping Sten selected. It will not switch to the door.

Any help is appreciated.

I've done this twice after the 1.04 patch, so it's not the patch's fault. I'm not sure what's the problem here, but maybe you skipped some dialogues with Sten? Not sure if that has to do with anything, but worth a try maybe.

Different people have different problems. I've never encountered this until the patch-- it doesn't mean they are related, but it also doesn't mean they're not. If I talk to Sten all I can say is that I'll leave him alone for now; I've exhausted all other dialogue options.

wondering if its because in the next ex-pack, sten is with the hero, so he must be left there?  you cannot target the cage, when stealing the key from the priest, it comes up "nothing to steal".  Even if you get the key,  you cannot use it.

scrap that! i reloaded the game, used leliana and it worked.  just a shame i didnt get to lock pick, abuse the priest then walk around with sten just to annoy her

i hav a similar problem but not with the cage. when i try to open the chest with stens sword i can not target it even though i got the key from Dwyn
