I uninstalled Dragon Age: Origins (I don't have Awakening) about a week ago due to lack of space and decided to install it again today. I tried twice, but at about 10% left to go, it says "Data error occurred" and rolls back the installation. I didn't see exactly at what file it stopped, but I think it was one of the movie files. I didn't have a problem when I installed the game when I first got it. I run my game on Windows XP. What could have caused this?
Can't reinstall the game

I've been seeing a lot of these messages lately, but no followup from anyone I've suggested this to, so could you tell me if the following works?
Do you have CCleaner installed? If not, install it:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Run the registry tool, after deselecting at least "Unused File Extensions" under the "Registry Integrity" side menu. I also tend to uncheck "Type Libraries," "Help Files," and a couple of others. You definitely want to keep "Application Paths" and "Applications" checked. Make sure to make a registry backup when it prompts you to, although I've never had to fall back to them. Then see if you can reinstall.
My suspicion is that there's a registry entry or two that the Dragon Age uninstaller leaves behind that blocks a reinstall. I've seen some other questionable theories about DVD drives being incompatible, but that doesn't seem to make sense to me-- especially if the game installed and ran in the first place.

Huh, that was a surprisingly quick answer. I'm installing Dragon Age again right now - I'll see if it works. Thanks for the program by the way, my hard disk is a giant trash heap.

Nope, it still gives an error. Any more suggestions?

use Revo Uninstaller Pro.
I don't have an exact download link, but google it and you will find one
have it completely uninstall Dragon Age: Origins - It'll remove any residual files or registry keys that might be impacting your installation attempt.

theorchero's suggestion is a good one, and would have been my next suggestion.

I'd try the Pro version first just for this problem, and then keep the free version around as a "just-in-case" utility.

Dragon Age doesn't show up un the programs list, I've cleaned the junk files. I'm now installing the game and monitoring the installation, I'll see if this works.

Didn't work. I was hoping to replay the game and import my save into Dragon Age II next year... oh well, I still have plenty of time to fix it, I suppose.

I have one more thought-- maybe the uninstaller left the Dragon Age Content Updater Service on your computer. Right click My Computer, and choose Manage. Expand "Services" and take a look to see if that service is still there. Also, see if it's started and running. Sometimes if a service is running, it can keep a program from uninstalling completely.
If it is, I can probably help you delete it.

Nope, it's not there. Still, thanks for all your help. I'll continue looking into this.

Are you trying to install Dragon Age from a DVD or are you downloading it?

I have the retail copy. Would it help if I copied the files to the hard disk?

You should to know if the issue is not caused by a damaged DVD. Try to copy the DVD content to a temporary folder on your hard drive. If you get a reading error during this copy, this certainly means that your DVD is damaged. If the copy process can be completed, you may try to install DA:O from the hard drive instead of the DVD.

Bumping this thread for having the same issue. Disc is in perfect condition, cant see it being that...
On another note, might this be DRM issues? I just got a brand new desktop after my last one fried. As it fried, I wasn't exactly able to Uninstall the game from my previous harddrive.
I don't know a whole lot about computers, but could it be that its saying "this is already installed somewhere, cancelling installation"? Isn't that kind how DRM works?
(Also not even sure if DRM is attached to DAO, just a guess!)

To ensure that your DVD is in perfect state have you tried what I suggest to Black Aliss (ie copying your DVD content to a temporary folder on your hard drive)? AFAIK, this is a quick solution to know if all the DVD content is readable.

I JUST tried that as I am posting, and it didn't work
Looks like I personally have corrupted files..
It's not a big deal, I'll borrow my neighbours discs and use my CD key so I can still play! Thanks for the help anyway Jack & others!

My problem is with that file too, now that I had a closer look. Is it possible to get the file from someone else's disk?

Ok, I tried copying the files to the hard disk... didn't work. EA Manager is my last resort.

Hm. It seems weird to me that you're both having the same issue with the same file, I'm guessing on XP SP 3. It's even weirder that it's a voice file, probably for that beggar in the dwarf commoner origin story. I have one more suggestion: instead of doing a direct copy of the files to your hard drive, could you make an image of the installation disk? Most DVD burning suites/programs will have a function to create an .iso file of the install. If you don't use something like Nero or Roxio, CD Burner XP (http://cdburnerxp.se/) or MagicISO will (http://www.magiciso.com/) both make .iso images. And more importantly, they *verify* that the .iso image completely matches the source DVD.
Mount the .iso file to a virtual CD drive, and try to install from there as if you were using the original DVD. I recommend Virtual Clone Drive (http://www.slysoft.c...clonedrive.html).
If that doesn't work, and you have to go to EA Manager, make sure to disable DEP as per the directions at the bottom of the page:
