I've never liked Hale's performance in Mass Effect. I found she's trying too hard to sound like a rough and tough badass that it didn't fit the character I had in my mind, add the Jacob dialogue and I've never played FemShep past the first few missions.
Meer, while he has his huge glaring flaws, tends to do amazing work in certain scenes. For example, during the Tali speech he sounds much more convincing and honest than Hale. He's a little monotone in a few of discussions, unfortunately.
I'd go with Meer > Hale, though.

Jennifer Hale and Femshep, hands down. MaleShep/Meer, sounds as if his nose is stopped up, or maybe he just prefers to talk through it.

I'm with male Shepard (except when he says:"would you like to join me in my cabin for a meal?".

Personally I prefer Meer, but here's a thought; if he improved his performance in mass effect 2 and continues improving his performance into mass effect 3, would that mean he'd give a better performance than Hale. Seeing as a fair few people around here say he's on par with Hale in ME2, and I'd think it'd be fair to say that Hale's been around a while now and probably won't get any better.
sorry for the terrible grammar..... it's late here... or early.

Long live Fem!Shep.
Her voice makes me melt. I love listening to Hale voice Shepard. It's sexy and powerful. The most difficult thing I ever did was play Male!Shep. I just couldn't get into it. Mind you, I prefer to (role)play as my own gender when given the choice in games, so that may explain my affinity to Fem!Shep.
I do admit Meer improved quite a bit when it came to Mass Effect 2, and the forced flirtation Fem!Shep had with Jacob really threw my for a loop. I don't deny either of those things. As I said though, when it comes down to it, I prefer Fem!Shep.

I usually play Male Shep, I think both do great, but the fact I hear Male Shep all of the time I think Fem Shep is the best, mind you I'm yet to play Femshep in ME2.

I've tried a few times to play the male Shepard but with Meer's voiceover I just couldn't get pass few of his lines, let alone the first mission in both games. His voice sounds so whiny and nasally that the 'hero" or "bad-ass" factors are completely removed. For me it just doesn't cut it...
Mass Effect 1's voiceovers had more emotion and empathy in their delivery in general, and not just from the main cast but from the supporting cast as well.
I can't say much about Meer's voice in the original or the second, simply because I can't stand it. No offence meant at anyone, it's just me. As for the first game's voiceoevers from Hale, I just fell in love with my Shepard and her voice acting. Having said that though, however, Hale's voiceover on the second game can be a little contrived in some places.
Perhaps emphasis was placed on her to sound more bad-ass from the directors and producers for the second game. Seeing as the first game didn't even have any profanity in it, with the absence of which I thought was very, very odd indeed. So I guess they couldn't just rest on the tone set by her work on the first game alone to deliver the bad-assness to the sequel.
Ah well.... to each and their own, I guess..

Femshep VA is great, though Maleshep VS is good too.

Maybe I've never seen a FemShep that looks like she fits the voice, but it just never sounds right to me.

Meer's performance I find to be more consistent. Hale's performance sounds forced and all over the place.
So I go for Male Shep.

I'll bite. FemShep for ME1. MaleShep couldn't have been for flat first game. He really stepped it up in ME2 though, so I'm on the fence there.

Femshep hands down, her voice is tantalizing, sexy, rough, sweet and powerful it comes through my headphones and makes my brain happy..
Maleshep on the other hand sounds like his voice actor had a cold or something
But I do have a weird girl crush on femshep so im kind of biased

I love them both over all, but I gotta say, in ME1, Hale was much better, but in ME2, she overdid it in some places, so Meer ended up coming off a bit better . . . .

I think Hale was better in many of the Paragon lines and Meer was better in most of the Renegade lines. Overall I think I prefer Meer, though.

I made an asian looking one time who was a renegade and the voice was so good with that one and now I can't make any more FemSheps that are as goodReconTeam wrote...

I'm going to go maleshep to combat the rabid femshep lovers out there. Hale's great, I just feel Meer's a bit underappreciated.

if the dialogue is meant to be paragon/sincere - FemShep
if it's meant to be renegade/aggressive - MaleShep

I prefer MaleShep's voice, FemShep does not sound like military officier to me - too emotional. That said I play both femShep and maleShep.

Hale is an amazing voice actress.... but the women here promote her acting simply because she's a girl, and not for the gigantic pool of talent that she is... She's done a very very wide range of acting, and in every single on of her performances, she's spot on. Same with ME 1 and 2.
Meer is interesting, in that he normally does minor characters, even he was suprised when they asked him to do the Male Shepards voice. Give him some time to actually adjust to the spotlight, its not as easy as many think, and it takes a long time to get voice acting without actually seeing whats going on, down pat.

Maybe those of you who don't like MaleShep's voice acting simply aren't playing him properly. You have to be badass.
Uh, he ends up sounding incredibly douchey if you play him as a renegade. So, no thanks:?
FemShep, though sounds much better as a renegade in ME1, Idk, maybe it's Meer's mispronunciation of Shaira and Liara's names at certain points in ME1 that bother people so much? They are both very talented, lovely voice actors.

I like Jennifer Hale more, but it's just a personal preference. They both did extremely well, especially considering they had to make completely opposite lines fit seamlessly into the same conversation.

I don't think that's a universal truth.
I hated her as Bastilla. Hated. Hated. Hated. Everytime I heard Bastilla speak I wanted to kick kittens. And I'm a cat lover.
